With judging complete for the Universal Beauty Awards 2026 which was announced on 1st February, , looking back across the process shows that Gold-winning decisions were rarely about novelty. Instead, judges consistently responded to products that were clear in purpose, performed reliably and felt relevant to real routines. Across categories, a few recurring considerations came up again and again during discussion.

In make-up, products that delivered dependable results without overcomplicating application tended to perform strongly. Collection Cosmetics’ Lasting Perfection Concealer stood out for doing exactly what it promised. Judges noted its coverage, wear and ease of use, particularly at an accessible price point, making it a product that felt genuinely usable rather than aspirational. It's a bargain at £4.49 and comes in a whopping 20 shades.

Also in colour cosmetics, BPerfect’s Lip Library Hybrid Lip Mask impressed for combining treatment benefits with immediate payoff. Judges liked that it worked as both a conditioning product and a wearable lip option, fitting easily into everyday use without feeling like a compromise. It's also vegan and cruelty free!.

Hair and body categories showed a similar preference for products that balanced results with practicality. Bellamianta’s Tanning Oil was recognised for delivering an even finish while remaining easy to apply. Judges responded well to products that achieved visible results without requiring specialist knowledge or excessive prep.

Tools and accessories were judged with usability firmly in mind.

Beautifect’s Beautifect Box stood out for addressing a practical need in a considered way.

Judges appreciated that it combined storage and functionality, rather than focusing purely on novelty, and that it felt designed for real, repeat use.

In supplements and wellbeing, products that fitted naturally into daily routines consistently performed better. Zooki’s Magnesium - Zooki was recognised for its format and absorption, with judges noting that it felt easy to incorporate without over-medicalising wellbeing. Health & Her’s Intimate Biome for Women Aged 45+ was similarly praised for addressing a specific need with clear intent and accessible messaging.

Skincare judging continued to favour clarity and focus. AK Pure Skin’s Face Tan Water stood out for delivering a subtle, controllable result without overpromising. Judges commented on how straightforward the product felt, both in formulation and use, which made it easy to assess and easy to recommend.

In nails and hands, Mii’s Nourish + Nurture Nail and Cuticle Oil Pen impressed for practicality. Judges highlighted the packaging and application as well as the formulation, noting that small design decisions can make a significant difference in how often a product is actually used.

Looking back at the judging as a whole, the products that stayed in judges’ minds were the ones that felt considered and easy to live with. They worked, they made sense, and they didn’t try to be something they weren’t. When judges talked through their scores, these were the entries that came up naturally in conversation, often because they felt like products people would genuinely keep using rather than try once and forget.
