Graydon Skincare, The Humble Co. and Juice Beauty - winners in the 2021 Global Green Beauty Awards with their incredible bamboo products
Hi again everyone!
I hope you are good and September is going well! Personally, I’m always a bit sad about the end of summer but sometimes September can be a really great month with good weather and smaller crowds! Here in Italy the weather has been really good and it's still warm enough to eat outside yet cool enough to sleep at night. Thank goodness!
In the last blog we explored the stories behind some of the winners from the last Global Green Beauty Awards, specifically those with hemp as an ingredient!
In today’s blog I want to take a better look at the winners of the Best Bamboo Product category, a new category within our Green Beauty Awards.
Let’s begin with the Gold Winner which was Graydon Skincare with their Bamboo Charcoal Konjac Sponge. This product is 100% vegan and 100% biodegradable. It becomes jelly like when wet, but when dry, it shrinks in size ready for the next use. Made with 100% biodegradable konjac plant fiber and bamboo charcoal, this sponge is the ultimate tool to detoxify pores, smooth your skin and thoroughly cleanse your face. This product was a truly brilliant entry in the 2021 Global Green Beauty Awards and was a well deserved winner. Bamboo is one of those miracle ingredients which can be used so many ways in the beauty industry.
This Canadian company has been going for about nine years and founder Graydon Moffat featured last month on City TV Breakfast television (see here). Interviewed in her immaculate kitchen, Graydon explained how her previous experience as a yoga instructor and a vegan chef as well as her holistic approach feeds into her philosophy behind her skincare business.
During the TV interview Graydon explains that her mission is to give people the chance to have a good skin day every day through products with simple, natural ingredients and to play a part in people all over the world feeling good about themselves! I love how simply and sincerely she states that and it’s clear that she loves her work! Additionally, the website proudly declares their ingredients to be dermatologist and clinically tested, hypoallergenic, non-irritating, vegan as well as cruelty-free.
Silver winner was The Humble Co. for their Interdental Brush / Bamboo. Established in 2013 by dentist Noel Abdayem and based in Sweden they follow the typical Scandinavian model which loves simplicity and efficiency. Inspired by a trip to Jamaica where he did voluntary work, Noah returned and set up the company which boasts products in over 40,000 stores and clinics worldwide.
It’s not surprising that they are so popular as the oceans are filled with old plastic toothbrushes (every single year we go through 10 billion plastical oral care products). It's clear that there is not only a demand but an absolute necessity for The Humble Co. to continue with its fight to give us high quality oral care in an environmentally friendly way!
Bronze winner was the super Juice Beauty for their Bamboo Pore Refining Mask. We loved this mask as it keeps help spots at bay. It contains bamboo charcoal & kaolin clay to help detox; Aspen bark to help smooth & hydrate, and exfoliating polyhydroxy acids for a softer, smoother complexion.
Founder Karen Behnke already had a wealth of experience as an entrepreneur in the wellness industry but her pregnancy at 40 and the changes in her hormonal balance inspired her to develop a skincare product which would work for others like her who are concerned that our skin absorbs the products we use on it and wanted effective solutions which were not harmful to the body or the environment. Her goal was not just to provide products that were as good as conventional options, but actually better. Consequently she spent five years working with scientists to explore complex organic formulations. Juice Beauty was founded in 2005 and is Vegan, Cruelty Free, Sustainable and they use Certified Organic Ingredients.

What an exciting time! Last week we announced the winners of the 2021 UK Global Makeup Awards.
This is the most thrilling part of the job and we absolutely love being able to provide recognition to the best in the business! In today’s blog, we’d like to shine a light on some of the skincare winners, so you know a little more about the products as well as the people and companies behind them!
Let’s begin with EcoTan by Sonya Driver with the Super Citrus Cleanser which deservedly won gold for the Best Cleanser and silver for Hempitan for the category of Best Fake Tan! The story behind the brand Eco by Sonya is both touching and inspiring. After going through an extremely traumatic period and having her life turned upside down, Sonya then discovered her sister had to have a melanoma removed from her arm, leaving a significant scar. After discovering that tanning products which were being advertised as 99% natural were actually very misleading, Sonya decided to start her own brand. The brand now boasts a range of great products and Sonya says the Super Citrus Cleanser is her favourite as it cleanses skin beautifully in a non-harmful way. Also, the bottle is so big that she also uses it as body lotion!
Now, we’ll take a deeper look at the Gold Winner for best toner! SkinChemists Advanced Brightening Toner beat some stiff competition to walk away with the award, now let us tell you a little more about their story and you might see why they also won one of our most prestigious categories - Gold for Best Luxury Skincare brand as well as a few other wins under their belt in this year's 2021 UK Global Makeup Awards.
Richard Walker, the founder and MD of SkinChemists is clearly very proud of both the brand and its history, and it’s easy to see why. The company started eleven years ago although Richard grew up around skincare products, his father being a chemist who was passionate and clear about wanting to create products which would make the world a better place! Richard also has a very clear goal! He states that his objective for SkinChemists is to become the world’s #1 cosmeceutical brand. He is also understandably proud of their remarkable achievement of selling 1,500 units within 24 hours of their website first going live!
The Advanced Brightening Toner is a fantastic product which gives skin a healthy, even glow and radiates health. It's also great for acne care as well as maintaining skin elasticity and providing smoothing, softening and moisturising properties.
So once again, big congratulations to Skinchemists London and to EcoTan by Sonya. Both deserved Gold Winners at this year’s UK 2021 Global Makeup Awards and both with wonderful and inspiring back stories behind the brands. We honestly think that the companies that clearly have a strong passion for what they do always create the best products and it’s so interesting to read about their journeys and the reasons behind them wanting to create their own products!

The 2021 UK Global Makeup Awards is drawing to a close with entries closing in two weeks, on 15th March 2021. Immediately after, the 2021 Global Green Beauty Awards open. It has been exhilarating for the UK market, as after the success of last year, which was our biggest year to date, who knew what the future would hold for 2021 which sees the UK reeling from the effects of its biggest recesion to date due to the coronavirus outbreak. The beauty industry was particularly hard hit, as the high street was closed, and with many people who had lost their jobs, there was less to spend on high end beauty items. On the other hand, self-care has never been so important - and home hair kits and home spa products have seen a rise.
Our beauty predictions for 2021 from what we've seen so far is a leap towards more affordable and more eco beauty goods that you can use at home. Unfortunately, we've also seen a lot of famous beauty houses collapse. Victoria Beckham Beauty has closed its London store. Other colour cosmetics brands have taken a hit, as with social venues and work places being closed people just don't need it. Overwhelmingly, we have seen an increased demand for skincare haircare, wellness and of course sanitization. We have seen many beauty brands bring out hand sanitisers and hand creams and soaps in a reaction against the COVID19 pandemic. In fact at the start of the pandemic, you couldn't find hand soap or hand sanitiser for love nor money in any supermarket or pharmacy. OUr UK 2021 Global Makeup Awards responded to this with the following new categories:
Best New Health and Wellness Product
Best New Hand Cream
Best Soap Bar
Best Liquid Soap
Best Hand Sanitiser
After a year of meticulously washing and scrubbing our hands - we are all desperate for new finds in these categories which look after our hands and care for them.

After a long, steamy summer the nights are drawing in earlier, heating is going on and time for a bit of cosy on down.
The Danish and Norwegians have a word for this. Hygge. A hug for the soul, mind and consciousness. Giving yourself a pamper and creating a feeling of ease and contentment. Hard in the current climate. It’s not just the weather assaulting our mind and body but the current pandemic is making us all keep to our homes whether by choice or legislation.
It seems an appropriate time to look at beauty products coming from our colder cousins, as they are the pioneers of S-Beauty aka Scandinavian Beauty. Think of all things Nordic, including the people, and the ability to keep fresh and strong comes to mind. People who have known how to take care of themselves in extremes of weather, keep safe, well and healthy. Great respecters of their environment and of themselves, and known for natural, clean beauty products. In fact, this is why we created the Scandinavian Global Makeup Awards - as those from the Scandinavian countries, have a wholly different approach to skincare and cosmetics, keeping things clean and natural.
We may not want to run naked through the snow to throw ourselves into a natural hot geyser but we would all like to know what pleasure is aroused buy this act. Because there must be a pay off!
So, we must look to the Skandi natural resources that we can use and indeed practice the respect they ave for our living world.
The judges have been long been admirers of SKOGEN products, who were winners in the 2019 Scandinavian Global Makeup Awards and the 2020 Global Green Beauty Awards. Not just because of Skogen Cosmetics fabulous packaging which in itself is worthy to grace the shelves of any discerning designer led aficionado but the contents are truly amazing. Our judges have had The Jasmine Collection on test.
Giving or receiving these products is an act of hygge in itself. The outer packaging is an extremely well manufactured box in royal blue but on opening the inside has been decorated with beautiful photographic scenes from the countryside. Just to get you in the right frame of mind. Every products differs with its interior. And sitting regally inside this gorgeous presentation box sit a violet blue capsule which seems to float inside a transparent outer covering. Even the men sit up and notice the beauty of the presentation of the SKOGEN Range.
The underlying theme of the serums and creams is Jasmine. This is a beautiful fragrance for those who don’t like their products too earthy. And luckily we are all different so it's lovely to have a fragranced option.
SKOGEN is a Swedish/US collaboration. Definitely a high end product the products have given great results. We love the fact that these luxury products still retain the criteria of being healthy and environmentally friendly. The Face Serum and Day Moisturiser leave the skin feeling wonderfully fed and radiant. Using the serum in conjunction with the Night moisturiser results in skin ready to face the day! SKOGEN EYE SERUM and EYE CREAM definitely helped this delicate area of the face minimising dark circles and invigorating this part of the face that many of us need help with. Especially when sleep has been hard to find!
Last but certainly not least the Judges loved the non surgical Face Mask. King Tut would have loved this product. Looking like a gold mask this product contains a full set of 12 treatments which are soaked in a highly concentrated serum. Ingredients include hyaluronic acid, algae extract, we carat gold and vitamins to leave the skin rejuvenated, deeply nourished and radiant. This product also importantly stimulates cell vitality to enhance firmness. Use it post procedures to stimulate healing. Use it to minimise redness and even skin tones. Or just use it for a bit of your own hygge!

It is a beautiful day here in Italy. Lake Garda is so much fun during the summer. There are lots of small festivals at each town with great food, drink, and music. The midday sun is so strong during July, I normally try and avoid going out as it can be quite exhausting and instead work on the Global Makeup Awards (the USA is currently open for entries!) and the Global Green Beauty Awards. However, on Monday I broke my own rules and went to the beach with my SUP board to cool off. It was great but later I noticed that my shoulders were sunburnt. They really seem to suffer, no matter how much sunblock I apply but I’ve been moisturising them regularly since and they feel much better! I better return to my trust favourite by EK Sunscreens - and put on their SPF factor 50 Kawakawa & Tamanu Certified Natural Sun Protection to prevent myself from any future damage!
Last night I skipped the AC/DC tribute band playing in the park across the road because this morning
I had an early start. A free 1-hour yoga session down by the lake at 6:30am. Such a perfect spot and
the air was still nice and cool.
Anyway, today I want to shine a little light on a couple of winners from the last beauty awards - the UK 2020 Global Makeup Awards. I would like to begin with BEST MOISTURISER GOLD WINNER: Primex Iceland for their amazing ChitoCare Face Cream.
Naturally I’m drawn to moisturisers with a high SPF number anyway but these guys are so much
more than that. With their Headquarters based in Iceland, it is inevitable that Primex Iceland is influenced by its geographical surroundings and embraces the rich natural products which are native to the area.
In 1999, they opened a hi-tech factory in Siglufjordur dedicated to the production of chitin and
chitosan which promote skin-healing and protection. In 2012 they were awarded “The Icelandic
Innovation Award” for creating popular, commercial products underpinned by solid, rigorous
scientific research and testing.
Recently, Primex has provided emergency staff in Iceland’s national hospital with ChitoCare Medical
products to relieve the pain and discomfort from cracked skin after using strong hand sanitizers and
to protect them from irritation.
Now for another winner. This year’s BEST SHAMPOO / CONDITIONER GOLD WINNER in the UK 2020 Global Makeup Awards was Biovène Barcelona for their Argan Oil & Mint Hydrate Repair Conditioner In-A-Bar.
Here at the Global Makeup Awards, we really loved this innovative company and product. Rather
than using the traditional conditioner design, this product comes in a bar containing natural Argan
oil, Peppermint, Macadamia oil, Beeswax and Shea butter. Not only is it plastic-free (always a good
thing), it also reduces water waste and increases efficiency (1 bar provides 50% more treatments
than a typical bottle).
Additionally, the company has a strong no-cruelty ethos as well as supporting vegan lifestyles and embraces the beauty of diversity across the globe.
Please, please do try their conditioner in-a-bar. This is a wonderful idea which should really catch-

This July's hottest shower gels as tried and tested by the Global Makeup Awards and Global Green Beauty Awards team
Don't be caught out by July showers, indoors not outdoors!
We’ve been having a great time testing shower gels and smelling really sweet. Shower gels are such a pleasure to use and can really awaken and revitalise your morning routine. When choosing a shower gel you've got to go for what is important for you.
Maybe you struggle waking up in the morning - in which case choose a citrusy shower gel with zest to wake you up. If you suffer from dry and dull skin you will need a more performance related shower gel that will hydrate your skin and leave it smooth - perhaps with a light exfoliation to remove dead skin cells. Or maybe for you it's all about the materials - is it organic, ethical, natural, zero waste? (If the last things are important to you then you will love reading about our 2020 Global Green Beauty Awards winners which will be announced in our e-magazine Global Makeup Magazine on 10th August.)
As shower gels cover such a huge range of personal choices whether though ingredients, strength or just personal taste, we thought we would touch on some of our July favourites from three well known brands, each with shower gels at a very similar price point, but all delivering something completely different.
We tested The Organic Pharmacy Shower Gel with Lemon & Eucalyptus, REN Clean Skincare Atlantic Kelp and Magnesium antifatigue Body Wash and Guava and Gold Paradise Found Bath and Shower Gel.
We’ve loved the healthy and refreshing fragrance when coming out of the shower after using The Organic Pharmacy’s Shower Gel with Lemon and Eucalyptus. You can buy it online for £25.95, in their shops (we love their flagship shop off Argyle Road near Oxford Street station, or even in Selfridges.) The eucalyptus in it has a really clean fragrance without being antiseptic. No sulphides in this product. Just the job to make you feel ready to face a Covid news week. We love the zesty scent which really awakens and refreshes in the morning.
RENs Clean Skincare Atlantic Kelp and Magnesium Antifatigue Bodywash, which has a RRP of £22.00 is also sulphide free and is infused with a blend of Anti-fatigue Essential oils. What better way to face a busy day.
What you may not have realised about this shower gel, is that is made from 100% recycled plastic, including using ocean plastic. If you are concerned about your plastic use, then this is a great green and clean brand to go for, as they are thinking ethically about their packaging and how they can re-use the plastic which is already out there. You can also enjoy its clean ingredients - Atlantic Kelp Extract is a source of essential minerals to nourish. Magnesium PCA helps moisturise the skin, it also contains Sage, Cypress, Geranium, Rosemary which provide a fresh, energising and uplifting scent.
And finally. Guava and Gold Paradise Found Bath and Shower Gel which has a RRP of £20.00. This shower gel left our judges feeling completely pampered and moisturised. In fact it won Gold in the UK 2020 Global Makeup Awards.
Paraben free and phthalate free fragrance, this is very much a gel based on the seductive scents Of exotic fruits and flowers and infused with jasmine, tuberose and a base of amber and pink cedar. You of course can't miss the gorgeous packaging of this product and the gold shimmer that it leaves you. A truly indulgent shower gel, this makes for a great present, or you can just spoil yourself.
So whatever takes your fancy from the range of products, you can see there is something perfect for everyone!
There is just one month left to enter the 2020 USA Global Makeup Awards.
This is our inaugural launch for the USA and we know it is going to be just as big as the UK Global Makeup Awards was.
It made sense to expand our awards to different regions across the globe, There are so many brands out there, and for America all the more so, there are so many great MADE IN THE USA brands! So it is time to celebrate them.
Beauty Awards in the USA
Beauty Awards are a big thing in the UK. In fact there are a tonne of them. We love to celebrate the best of the best new launches and consumers are always looking to find what is the hottest on trend beauty product on the market right now. But when you look to the USA, things have gone a bit quieter on the beauty awards and makeup awards front? There are the odd awards by magazines but not many awards that we can see which are independently judged and adjudicated by a team of beauty experts. For two countries with not only a shared language, but also a shared love of beauty products this seems to not align correctly. So we are delighted that the Global Makeup Awards has branched out and created an awards, just for America.
Products need to be available to purchase in America either by post or in shop in order to enter these awards. American beauty products are a huge thing. In fact - even Cosmo did an article for UK residents on what beauty products to buy in America if they are visiting there as not all are available to buy in the UK, making some products a bit like cult classics....especially when shopping in the famous ULTA and Sephora. I mean, some people even pack an extra suitcase when travelling to the USA just for beauty buys... oh and some Hershey's chocolate. In fact, in America, these are called the MVP Beauty Players - or in other words, the Most Valuable Player beauty brands.
Did you know Glossier (it's only been around since 2014 can you believe it!?) Drunk Elephant and CoverGirl were all American beauty brands? That's right. Some more hot American beauty brands out there right now and perhaps a little lesser known in the UK are BeautyCounter's tinted moisturizer, and RMS beauty un-coverup.
We've all heard of Kylie cosmetics here in the UK and we are hoping they will be entering the 2020 USA Global Makeup Awards. We'd love to try their Stormi palette with its unique periwinkle shade and beautiful butterfly packaging. Let's see how it rates against the other big palette players like Urban Decay's Naked palette. The Kylie Cosmetics brand was made famous by the Kylie Lip Kit - which sold both a lippie and a pencil for $36.
There is also Milk Makeup out there, which is an American brand from New York. They don't currently ship internationally which means it's time to book a flight and a suitcase if you want to get your hands on their Matcha stick cleanser.
Our 2020 USA Global Makeup Awards close in just one month. That's not much time to get entries in and we can't wait to see which hot hot hot products will be entering this year. We are of course looking for the best of new launches and are so excited to see who the winners will be in this year's American beauty awards.
Anywho, we will be announcing the winners for the USA Global Makeup Awards on 10th September - so keep an eye out - it's going to be one to watch if you want to keep up to date on the hottest beauty trends on the other side of the pond

beauty products from a feminist standpoint as well as vocally getting behind the recent #BLM
movement. This is a company run by people who know who they are and what change they want to
make in the world. Mary Kay’s huge success only underpins the notion that you don’t have to
abandon your values to be successful.
The Skinvigorate Sonic Skin Care System provides you with a cleaner, impurity free face in just 60 seconds. It was truly deserving of a gold win in the UK 2020 Global Makeup Awards. By the way, here in Italy the weather is super-hot, just as it has been in the UK, and it is great to see
lots of German tourists have come back to Italy as soon as they could, to enjoy the food, culture and
beautiful scenery. It’s a huge boost not only to the tourism sector but to everyone’s mood. Living in
a ghost town started off like a novelty but it soon became quite draining!

USA 2020 Global Makeup Awards launch June 1st 2020
We are ecstatic to announce the launch of the USA 2020 Global Makeup Awards. We had over 350 entrants for the UK awards, and we are sure we are going to beat this record with the USA.
The USA is the global leader in beauty and cosmetics which means we can't wait to see their hottest launches for 2020. We were so excited to go to the North America, Las Vegas COSMOPROF beauty event this year, which has been postponed. It typically attracts over 40,000 guests which is quite incredible. They are hoping their June dates will now be in September but due to the coronavirus outbreak this might be postponed again. Let's wait and see!
Regardless of Las Vegas Cosmoprof, we will be going ahead with the USA 2020 Global Makeup Awards. We have some key dates for your calender so be sure to put down the following for our beauty awards:

June 1st 2020 - Awards open for entries
August 1st 2020 - Awards entries close
August 10th 2020 - Last submission of product samples
September 10th 2020 - Winners Announced Online
To enter the awards we are looking only for the newest and freshest beauty products - so we are looking for products launched after January 2018 only. We require 6 x product samples which will be judged by our panel of judges. Please note that for shipping from the USA to the UK you will need to fill our the appropriate customs label! We have categories for makeup, skincare, body care, haircare innovation and more, so have a look at our USA 2020 Global Makeup Awards product categories list which is available to view now. The product entry page will be open from June 1st when the awards go live for entries.
From big to Indy brands, we have seen that everyone is in for a chance to win with our beauty awards. Winners will receive a paper certificate and an online winners badge for their gold, silver or bronze wins in the awards. Online they will also get a back link direct to their website and gold winners will also have a free image on our website to enhance their win.
If, however, green and clean is more your thing, then why not look into our Global Green Beauty Awards. This is open to brands globally and there are no launch date restrictions. There are categories for brands and beauty products which are green, organic, natural, ethical, zero waste, cruelty free or made from key natural ingredients. Entries for the Global Green Awards are open now until July 15th.
