Taking a look at some gold winners from the UK 2021 Global Makeup Awards
Hi again everybody!
So in our last In The Spotlight blog we shared some background information about some of the Gold Winners in the UK 2021 Global Makeup Awards Skincare categories. Today, we’d like to focus on some of the winners from the Make-Up categories. This beauty awards was truly competitive so it was great to see such a range of amazing high street and non high street beauty and makeup brands.
Let’s begin with Erborian who came out top in the category of Best Primer with their Pink Primer & Care. This awesome primer has the very convenient added bonus of also being an excellent moisturiser. This toner works amazingly with all different skin tones, (see this YouTube video); the main ingredients of the Pink Primer & Care are Japanese persimmon leaf extract (Diospyros kaki), Japanese Camellia seed oil (Camellia japonica), and Pumpkin seed oil (Curcubita pepo); all known for their antioxidant properties.
Founded in 2007, the Erborian Skin Care Therapy Franco-Korean brand blends the latest technologies with traditional Korean medicines with the goal of helping people to achieve perfect skin.
Let’s now take a look at Fluttery Light No.008 which was the BEST EYE PRODUCT GOLD WINNER for Eylure London. These beautifully hand-made lashes can be used up to five times and enhance lashes to give them a thicker and longer look.
Eylure was established in 1948 although by this point their lashes had already become firm favourites with such icons as Marlene Dietrich, Joan Collins, Ingrid Berman and Sophia Loren. This was due to the fact that the company’s founders were renowned make-up artists in the movie industry. They were also used to give Elizabeth Taylor her famous Cleopatra look. By the 1960’s, their lashes had become extremely popular with the general public
Next, we’ll look at our BEST FOUNDATION GOLD WINNER - Carter Beauty Miracle with their Measure Youth Boost Foundation. A wonderfully clean product, this foundation is fragrance-free and oil-free as well as being vegan friendly and PETA approved. It is enriched with vitamins C and E and also HYALURONIC ACID (HA), a naturally occuring substance in skin which helps to keep it hydrated.
Carter Beauty by Marissa Carter takes great pride and care in being Peta-approved while Marissa is adamant that her products must be of the highest quality yet always affordable. Furthermore, Marissa really knows her stuff and her blog is a really fantastic resource for us all! She shares a lot of really valuable expertise, its hard to believe that her beauty guides are even free! She could probably make a lot of money if she charged for them! Her Foundation 101 guide
Finally, our BEST CONCEALER GOLD WINNER was for Jane Iredale with the Enlighten Plus Under-Eye Concealer. This 100% cruelty free and vegan-friendly concealer is especially great for providing protection from the sun while also smoothing and depuffing the eyes. Jane started the brand over 25 years ago, long before anyone was talking about ‘Clean Beauty’. Her own values fit perfectly with that description though and after working with actors and finding that many make-up products were damaging to their skin, she set about creating makeup that is actually kind to the skin.
Well, there are four great brands to check out. We hope you’ve enjoyed reading as much as we have writing this blog. We’ll be back soon with another In The Spotlight of the best products from our beauty awards.
Until then, ciao!!!

It's Dominique, the editor for the Global Makeup Awards. Now in our fourth year, it was exciting to expand the regions for the Global Makeup Awards yet again. After four successful years for UK, Scandinavia and USA, we had many requests for ASIA and Australia and New Zealand to expand our beauty awards to those regions.
So, in 2021 the ASIA 2021 Global Makeup Awards was born. This is for all ASIAN markets as well as Australia and New Zealand. Just like our other regional Global Makeup Awards, this awards celebrates the best of the best of new launches in those markets.
We have seen a huge amount of entries for this year's new beauty awards for ASIA, seeing entries from Taiwan, Singapore, South Korea, New Zealand and Australia. It has really been an incredible year for entries, for this new geographical market. Furthermore, this is made all the more impressive given the Global crisis due to the coronavirus pandemic, mixed into this, the difficulties that Brexit has produced.
We are delighted to have seen so many new brands enter from those regions and will be delighted to announce the winners in a dedicated magazine on the 20th May. These ASIAN beauty awards are so important as it gives a chance for brands to celebrate their worth within the beauty industry compared to other brands in a similar geographical location. The awards are judged by our panel of 6 beauty specialists and as always, the best products win - ie those with real results where efficacy is key.
There have been some huge players entering this year's awards - but we don't want to spoil the surprise yet! In May, all the answers will be revealed and you can learn the best of not just K-Beauty, but so much more! If you are an Asian or Australian beauty brand looking to nominate your beauty products in this year's awards there is still time to enter. Entries close for our 2021 ASIAN beauty awards on the 15th April, so there's still over a week left!
Remember, to enter the product must be newly launched (after January 2018) as we are looking for the hottest new ASIAN beauty trends. We have a number of beauty categories which you can see here.
To all those who have already entered, we wish you the best of luck! All winners will receive an entry in our online beauty magazine which showcases the ASIAN Global Makeup Award Winners, a listing on our website with a backlink, and gold winners will receive an image too. You can also request a printed certificate.
We look forward to seeing any last minute entries, and wish you the best of luck in the 2021 ASIA Global Makeup Awards.
Global Green Beauty Awards Open Monday 15th March
Big News! We are so excited to announce that the 2021 Global Green Beauty Awards open on Monday 15th March!
These awards are really close to our heart as they celebrate companies which make a genuine effort to create products which are friendly to the environment. I saw a Leonardo DiCaprio meme this morning and while I can’t find it again now, the point was that if we all make a difference each week with our behaviour and choices, we will significantly reduce the damage that is being done to our planet. I think this stuck with me because there are moments when shopping where it can be so easy to consciously set aside my own values (especially regarding packaging and ethically sound companies) because I am in a rush or I’m tempted by a special offer. However, I am determined this year to stick to my values 100% and support companies which are making a concerted effort to improve things for everybody!
Of course, in addition to being good for the environment, green products inevitably end up being great for clean beauty too and are especially popular with people who have sensitive skin. Our favourite companies are very proud to use natural ingredients and go to great efforts to use them, even when it’s not always the easiest option. We love that commitment to clean beauty and are proud to give the recognition that it deserves. Ethical beauty and natural ingredients go together and as a consequence, buying green also leads to great results in our beauty regimes!
So, if you would like to get involved and receive some recognition for your efforts while also helping customers to make an informed choice, go ahead and enter the 2021 global Green Beauty Awards - Entries close May 30th 2021.
We will announce the winners on July 15th 2021!!!
This is our second Global Green Beauty Awards! Last year was a lot of fun and we discovered so many new great companies with wonderful stories behind their ventures and products. We can’t wait to do it again and build on our existing relationships while creating new ones!
Some of the categories which you’ll be able to enter include:
Organic beauty products
Furthermore, there are no launch date restrictions for products entered
We don’t require product certification but brands need to genuinely believe their product fits the category and demonstrate an authentic approach to green values. Some great winners from last year were Weleda, Dome Beauty and Inika organic, Eco By Sonya Driver-
You can see a full liist of last years winners here https://www.globalmakeupawards.com/2020-global-green-beauty-awards.html#/
So, as you can see there are so many reasons to apply! Apply now and don’t miss out. Naturally, if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch! We are a small team devoted to running these awards and we’d be delighted to hear from you!

It's the final countdown! Entries for the UK 2021 Global Makeup Awards close in 5 days, on 15th March 2021.
It has been a whopping 3 months since the awards opened on the 1st January 2021. Trying to organise so many amazing entries alongside Brexit and the Global Pandemic have made this year's awards one to remember. There have been a fair share of logistical difficulties with couriers the last few months, but not a challenge we can't handle! We have seen an astonishing number of entries, and the bell hasn't chimed yet - we still have a huge 5 more days to see the entries pour in.
There have been so many new brands back this year, after multiple years and awards of entry. We adore seeing so much brand loyalty, and we recognise and appreciate all the brands who come back year after year to our beauty awards. We also have seen a huge number of new beauty brands! As our UK 2021 Global Makeup Awards celebrates the best in new launches, it is great to see lots of start-ups showcasing their new beauty products. With categories not just in makeup, but also in skincare, hair care, body care and hygiene, we are seeing a record number of entries. There is still time to enter though, with 5 days to get your entry in.
There is nothing like a last minute entry and we look forward to seeing the final push this weekend! In fact, we are dying to see what the last minute entries are! The global pandemic has changed consumer habits, and we are seeing a bigger focus on health and wellbeing, skincare, hair care and anything which is DIY at home beauty!
As soon as the UK 2021 Global Makeup Awards close, we are delighted to announce, that for its second year the 2021 Global Green Beauty Awards will launch straight after! This is for greener and cleaner brands with no launch date restrictions. In fact we look forward to telling you about these green beauty awards in the upcoming blogs. Many brands want to showcase their ethical ethos and we are so proud to have an award which recognises this shift towards being more eco-conscious and responsible.
We look forward to announcing the winners in Global Makeup Magazine at the end of April.
Speak soon beauty lovers!
The GMA team x
Hello beauty lovers,
Boy oh boy are we glad it's February. We can see the daffodils and crocuses peaking out, and it seems slowly but surely that Spring is on its way. Well, in between the snow storms, rain and I think tonight it's going to hit -7 degrees. However, I'm hopeful that there are warmer days around the corner.
Between being a working mum and organising these awards, the bad weather has truly made it more of a challenge with this bad weather. And with Spring, comes the announcement of the UK 2021 Global Makeup Awards. This is our biggest local beauty awards of the year out of our regions for UK, Asia, Scandinavia and USA. The UK is a truly special market when it comes to beauty awards, as consumers look to awards to find the best of the best in the hottest new makeup and cosmetics trends.
These awards aren't just for makeup though, they cover skincare, body care, hair care and of course the brand categories which look into Vegan, the packaging and Natural brands. Over the years we have seen an array of brands enter - from huge brands like L'Occitane, Boots, FOREO, Mary Kay, Avon, Nu Skin, REN Skincare, to Liz Earle and their super famous hot cloth cleanser. (Which incidentally won gold in the 2020 Global Green Beauty Awards.)
Honestly - after the last 12 months we've had, I'm not quite sure what to expect in this year's awards. But I am predicting more hygiene entries - more shower gels, hand gels and soaps and more hand creams. With the cold weather and all the washing of hands, I think people want to use better quality products that not only look after their hands and keep them from being dry but also that clean properly. When it comes to bath and shower products, I think people will just be wanting a good luscious pamper. Lastly - for makeup and cosmetics - of course eyes are all important. As are in-home beauty treatments like face masks, tweezers and fake lashes you can apply yourself.
Entries for the UK 2021 Global Makeup Awards close on 15th March. You've got to be in it to win it! So if you are a beauty brand - why not enter this years beauty awards and celebrate your amazing new beauty products. We all need a pick me up at the moment - and the consumers in the UK want to find out which products has been voted the best by a panel of experts.
Lots of love

Let’s say goodbye to. 2020 and look forward to 2021.
It’s not been all bad news. Coronavirus has seen such a lot of bad and sad news but the one positive aspect of it has been the world having to focus on where we have been going wrong and what we, as curators of the world, can do to endeavour to secure a much healthier life for our children and their descendants.
Let’s admit that some of us have had our eyes opened to what’s been going on around us. We know we have got to be much more proactive in positivity towards the planet. Some countries have always been much more aware of their environments and how to respect nature.
So keeping positive thoughts in mind the team have been really impressed by the Icelandic entrants to the Scandinavian Global Makeup Awards. Taking a pride of place on the winners shelf is Taramar. Their mantra is Working with Nature, not Against It. Founders of the company are two professors from the university of Iceland. One from the Faculty of life and Environmental Sciences and the other from the Faculty of Food Science and Nutrition. This is a company that does not mass produce their products at the expense of the environment and their workers. This is the Marine Superfood for the skin, based on compounds that are isolated from seaweed and kelp in an extract named Arctic Complex.
Their research has shown that the bioactives from the seaweed promote anti-inflammation and anti-oxidants. Taramar contain no toxins or hormone disrupters. The company also promise they only use food grade ingredients in their formula. The end result on a time scale level is only achieved by using extractions that in some case can take months to achieve. This reflects their increasing interest in slow cosmetic methodology. No quick fix here and we appreciate the way the company don’t promise immediate overnight results. The best things in life are worth waiting for!
Now to the nitty gritty! What did our judges think. Well, it was everything they could have wished for. From the classy packaging which is dark colours to protect the natural ingredients from being damaged by sunlight to the results the products actually achieve. We loved the wonderful tightness of Taramar The Serum and the cooling relaxing effect of Taramar The Eye treatment. Definitely a brand to look out for.
Hello you beauties,
This December brings the last month of the whirlwind that has been 2020, and we are choosing to go out with a bang by announcing tomorrow our last beauty awards for the year: The 2020 Scandinavian Global Makeup Awards.
In this beauty magazine, you can read all the winners for 2020. It is so much fun doing our makeup and beauty awards region by region. In this year's Scandinavia region, we see the hottest brands from the brassicaly cold Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Iceland.
The Nordics opt for a cleaner, and more eco friendly type of beauty - with product packaging often being recyclable, and the products itself often organic, non toxic and also usually non harmful to the environment. The products themselves are usually of extremely high quality and they tend to prefer a more minimalistic approach to beauty. Less is more, and the Scandinavians tend to prefer less bottles over more. Packaging, like the number of beauty products in their cabinet, is scaled black. There is more monochrome, more simplicity and yet more style.
There was a myriad of entries in this years 2020 Scandinavian Global Makeup Awards and we had so many notable winners. For Hair and Body brands such as Rosenserien, to Sweden Eco, Eleni & Chris and Zenz Organic to makeup brands such as IDUN Minerals and Karmameju's beautiful new BB suncreams. We were excited to welcome this year SkinChemists, Dr Botanicals and Esse to the skincare categories along side past winners such as Barr Sweden and FOREO (who have launched their incredible beauty gadgets BEAR and UFO2.
Other notable winners are Icelandic luxury skincare brand Taramar - which uses algae at the forefront of their science. Primex Iceland - which uses Chitosan as its unique ingredient (sustainable prawn shells from the Atlantic Ocean). Marina Miracle showcased their incredible range, from their lash and eyebrow serum which was a winner in previous awards as well as showcasing their skincare range - we loved their sweet and creamy oil cleanser. Aiia was also a strong winner in this years awards with its high end skincare founded upon water based serums.
Winners in our beauty awards receive an entry on our website, an image and text in our online magazine and a certificate. Brands can even choose to further promote their win with a perspex trophy. The 2021 Scandinavian Global Makeup Awards will return September 15th 2021. With over 300 entrants it's impossible to name them all in one post, but we hope you enjoy reading our favourites in Global Makeup Magazine.
Who knows what next year will have in store for us and the world. We were so impressed with all the brands ability to go with the flow all with the backdrop of a global pandemic which impacted staff working from home, warehouse organisation and postage logistics. In the face of such uncertainty, we know next year will be bigger and brighter as we saw such an impressive range of products entered. Products that can provide that much needed pick-me-up for those who have had to close themselves up at home with lockdown after lockdown enforced.
To all our readers - Thank You! We are so happy so many of you tune into Global Makeup Magazine, and we wish you the happiest of Christmas Holidays and New Years. The Global Makeup Awards commences again from January 1st, launching with our biggest region for the Global Makeup Awards and then followed shortly after by Global Green Beauty Awards - which celebrates all green beauty and eco beauty award winners.
Wishing you a safe December

So we’ve all heard of K-Beauty which has become over the years an umbrella term for skin-care products that are derived from South Korea. However, a newer term in the world of beauty is S-Beauty - which stands for Scandinavian Beauty or Scandi-Beauty. Whereas K-beauty became famous in Europe as we were intrigued by their 10 step skincare regime - S Beauty is quite the opposite - looking at more minimalist products that have a higher efficacy.
In this year’s 2020 Scandinavian Global Makeup Awards, we thought it would be interesting to delve deeper into the intricacies of S-Beauty. At its core, S-Beauty is about an all natural beauty look, often using natural products. When it comes to makeup, S-beauty favours a more subtle look using natural and earthy colours that enhance your own natural beauty. Packaging is minimalist, futuristic and bang on trend, much like their renown Scandi decor.
Self care while going through lockdown 2.0 is what is really important right now, and Scandinavians known how to hunker down and enjoy time indoor in the warm and cosy while it’s cold outside. In fact, Scandinavian winters are known for being sub-zero, and that can take a toll on the delicate skin on your face. S-Beauty with regards to skincare really looks at protecting your skin from the harshness of external factors like weather and pollutants while keeping it moisturised and nourished. An intensive serum is an absolute must for providing your skin with the protection it requires.
What are the other traits of S-Beauty? Minimalism goes a long way, and you won’t find a Scandinavians bathroom counter filled with thousands of lotions and potions. Quality and functionality are paramount. Less products which DO more. You’ll also notice more moisturisers with SPF, and also even up to 50SPF as they take protection against sun damage very seriously. Scandi’s aren’t known like brits for being abroad and sporting a bright lobster pink sunburn.
So who are the big names in Scandi Beauty right now? Perhaps the most well known in S-Beauty in the makeup world is Kkaer Weis, famous for high-performing, luxury makeup that is both certified organic and sustainable. In skincare, there is a myriad of names, as Scandinavians take their skincare routine very seriously. Despite being known as a nation of minimalism, they don’t skimp on the steps in skincare routine. Big name players are Rosenserien, FOREO, Eleni & Chris, Barr Sweden, Skogen Cosmetics, Primex Iceland and Mette Picaut, just to name a few.
S-Beauty goes further than just the products that you put on your skin and the earthy tones of the makeup you choose. It is a way of life. Balance is central to all things Scandinavian, which is part of their appreciate of ‘Hygge’. You need to balance the modern world with nature, and balance also your own like. A balanced and colourful diet is very important to them as well as finding time for themselves, and of course time to exercise. It is all tied in together - makeup, diet, exercise, inner wellbeing, in helping them to feel like the best versions of themselves.
With all the uncertainties right now with the coronavirus pandemic, we could all do with taking a leaf out of the Scandinavians book, and look at enjoying the smaller things in life and taking a more balanced approach. The next time you make a beauty purchase, why not try S-Beauty, and look for better ingredients, a more natural approach and see if it is an all rounder that can do more.
Just a quick blog post from the team here at Global Makeup Awards! We were all together and talking about our favourite beauty products that have entered our beauty awards over the years, and a special product popped up for all of us. Maybe because it is for a very specific part of your body, but we love looking after our chest, as it is one of the first places to show the signs of ageing, and we haven't seen many products that tackle the problem of a wrinkly decolletage!
The delicate skin of the neck, breast and décolletage is unique, as the skin in this area is thinner than the skin on the rest of your body and constantly under stresses from gravity, movement, abrasion and perspiration. It contains fewer oil glands, therefore pores here remain smaller and more narrow.
Elixir Extraordinaire Dry Oil Mist from Stellar Decolletage has been designed for just that! The mist is a dry oil that your spritz on your chest and it absorbs easily and doesn't leave you or your tops greasy. Not only does it help to diminish wrinkles, but it helps with the appearance of stretch marks too. Its secret lies in its blend of ingredients. It is enriched with a blend of Inca Inchi oil, rich in vitamin A, vitamin E and amino acids, macadamia oil containing omega 6 and 7, sweet almond oil, jojoba seed oil, borage oil and shea butter.
Last year judges were wowed by this product - hence us all talking about it today. It won Gold in the 2020 Global Green Beauty Awards. The oil helps to restore moisture balance, limits dehydration and helps to strengthen and rebuild your skin's natural barriers.
It also has anti-ageing properties because it is rich with antioxidants. The Elixir Extraordinaire Dry Oil Mist conditions and protects, leaving your skin soft and supple.
We all saw results after a couple of weeks of using and in fact, it claims to have long lasting effects - so fingers crossed from using this our chests will keep up with looking younger for longer. The product costs £68.00 RRP and is available from their website. To complete the set - they also have a gorgeous looking Velvet restore sleep complex. This is an overnight treatment for the Décolletage providing a plumping, anti-ageing and conditioning treatment. We haven't tried this second product for ourselves, but it looks like the perfect complimenting product to use at night for a totally smooth chest.
After a long, steamy summer the nights are drawing in earlier, heating is going on and time for a bit of cosy on down.
The Danish and Norwegians have a word for this. Hygge. A hug for the soul, mind and consciousness. Giving yourself a pamper and creating a feeling of ease and contentment. Hard in the current climate. It’s not just the weather assaulting our mind and body but the current pandemic is making us all keep to our homes whether by choice or legislation.
It seems an appropriate time to look at beauty products coming from our colder cousins, as they are the pioneers of S-Beauty aka Scandinavian Beauty. Think of all things Nordic, including the people, and the ability to keep fresh and strong comes to mind. People who have known how to take care of themselves in extremes of weather, keep safe, well and healthy. Great respecters of their environment and of themselves, and known for natural, clean beauty products. In fact, this is why we created the Scandinavian Global Makeup Awards - as those from the Scandinavian countries, have a wholly different approach to skincare and cosmetics, keeping things clean and natural.
We may not want to run naked through the snow to throw ourselves into a natural hot geyser but we would all like to know what pleasure is aroused buy this act. Because there must be a pay off!
So, we must look to the Skandi natural resources that we can use and indeed practice the respect they ave for our living world.
The judges have been long been admirers of SKOGEN products, who were winners in the 2019 Scandinavian Global Makeup Awards and the 2020 Global Green Beauty Awards. Not just because of Skogen Cosmetics fabulous packaging which in itself is worthy to grace the shelves of any discerning designer led aficionado but the contents are truly amazing. Our judges have had The Jasmine Collection on test.
Giving or receiving these products is an act of hygge in itself. The outer packaging is an extremely well manufactured box in royal blue but on opening the inside has been decorated with beautiful photographic scenes from the countryside. Just to get you in the right frame of mind. Every products differs with its interior. And sitting regally inside this gorgeous presentation box sit a violet blue capsule which seems to float inside a transparent outer covering. Even the men sit up and notice the beauty of the presentation of the SKOGEN Range.
The underlying theme of the serums and creams is Jasmine. This is a beautiful fragrance for those who don’t like their products too earthy. And luckily we are all different so it's lovely to have a fragranced option.
SKOGEN is a Swedish/US collaboration. Definitely a high end product the products have given great results. We love the fact that these luxury products still retain the criteria of being healthy and environmentally friendly. The Face Serum and Day Moisturiser leave the skin feeling wonderfully fed and radiant. Using the serum in conjunction with the Night moisturiser results in skin ready to face the day! SKOGEN EYE SERUM and EYE CREAM definitely helped this delicate area of the face minimising dark circles and invigorating this part of the face that many of us need help with. Especially when sleep has been hard to find!
Last but certainly not least the Judges loved the non surgical Face Mask. King Tut would have loved this product. Looking like a gold mask this product contains a full set of 12 treatments which are soaked in a highly concentrated serum. Ingredients include hyaluronic acid, algae extract, we carat gold and vitamins to leave the skin rejuvenated, deeply nourished and radiant. This product also importantly stimulates cell vitality to enhance firmness. Use it post procedures to stimulate healing. Use it to minimise redness and even skin tones. Or just use it for a bit of your own hygge!
Be sure to look out for other Scandi brands in the upcoming 2020 Scandinavian Global Makeup Awards, where the winners will be announced on 10th December in Global Makeup Magazine. These beauty awards celebrate all things beauty and Nordic.
