What an exciting time! Last week we announced the winners of the 2021 UK Global Makeup Awards.
This is the most thrilling part of the job and we absolutely love being able to provide recognition to the best in the business! Read the full list of UK winners here on our website which includes reading our free beauty magazine Global Makeup Magazine which goes into more details on all of this year's beauty awards winners.
In today’s blog, we’d like to shine a light on some of the skincare winners, so you know a little more about the products as well as the people and companies behind them!
Let’s begin with EcoTan by Sonya Driver with the Super Citrus Cleanser which deservedly won gold for the Best Cleanser and silver for Hempitan for the category of Best Fake Tan! The story behind the brand Eco by Sonya is both touching and inspiring. After going through an extremely traumatic period and having her life turned upside down, Sonya then discovered her sister had to have a melanoma removed from her arm, leaving a significant scar. After discovering that tanning products which were being advertised as 99% natural were actually very misleading, Sonya decided to start her own brand. The brand now boasts a range of great products and Sonya says the Super Citrus Cleanser is her favourite as it cleanses skin beautifully in a non-harmful way. Also, the bottle is so big that she also uses it as body lotion!
Now, we’ll take a deeper look at the Gold Winner for best toner! SkinChemists Advanced Brightening Toner beat some stiff competition to walk away with the award, now let us tell you a little more about their story and you might see why they also won one of our most prestigious categories - Gold for Best Luxury Skincare brand as well as a few other wins under their belt in this year's 2021 UK Global Makeup Awards.
Richard Walker, the founder and MD of SkinChemists is clearly very proud of both the brand and its history, and it’s easy to see why. The company started eleven years ago although Richard grew up around skincare products, his father being a chemist who was passionate and clear about wanting to create products which would make the world a better place! Richard also has a very clear goal! He states that his objective for SkinChemists is to become the world’s #1 cosmeceutical brand. He is also understandably proud of their remarkable achievement of selling 1,500 units within 24 hours of their website first going live!
The Advanced Brightening Toner is a fantastic product which gives skin a healthy, even glow and radiates health. It's also great for acne care as well as maintaining skin elasticity and providing smoothing, softening and moisturising properties.
So once again, big congratulations to Skinchemists London and to EcoTan by Sonya. Both deserved Gold Winners at this year’s UK 2021 Global Makeup Awards and both with wonderful and inspiring back stories behind the brands. We honestly think that the companies that clearly have a strong passion for what they do always create the best products and it’s so interesting to read about their journeys and the reasons behind them wanting to create their own products!

Global Makeup Awards looks at Lush's new flagship Liverpool store
Bath bomb beauty bananza Lush has opened its biggest doors yet. After last year's marketing scandal of their 'anti spy cops campaign' the brand has recovered well. They have looked at revolutionising beauty spaces to create a whole experience when entering their new flagship store.
Lush have just opened their flagship store in Liverpool. It is truly huge at a massive 1380sq metres, not only is it on three floors (one of which is entirely dedicated to its own in-house spa) but it is also manned by 167 staff members.
Playing to their strengths, which is environment first, this is even replicated in their coffee bar. With plant based milks only, Lush is hot on the veganism trend as their coffee and their beauty products are of course against cruelty to animals. Their coffee is 100% vegan and their cafe is also against single use plastic. Furthermore, all their products are completely sourced in the UK to cut down their carbon footprint - so be sure to bring along your reusable flask the next time you pop to Liverpool!
Their flagship Lush store also comes complete with its own hair salon 'Lush HairLab'. This is their first hair salon and comes stocked with 50 unique hair products from Lush. Moving away from the toxicity of hair dye - this lush salon offers Henna alternatives as well as of course hair cuts, treatments and blowouts. Who knows, maybe lush will enter one of their new makeup, beauty or haircare products in the Global Makeup Awards this year as we look at all the latest products launches from the last year from the beauty industry. Our beauty and makeup awards would be delighted to have a to luxury beauty brand apply and nominate their products ready for review by our team of professional judges for review.
Physically, the open plan store is stunning - with products laid out in a way that you will want to snap it for your instagram, but also because of the floral arrangements throughout the store. In fact, it even houses its own in house florists so you can buy some plants to take home with you. Just like the coffee, all the plants are sourced from the UK. Offering seasonal bouquets, it makes for a unique purchase at the new Lush store.
Lastly, with a whole floors dedicated to a spa this is something to definitely enjoy. It is the 8th of Lush's Spas, but this one is even designed to host parties! Or else, book your self in for a relaxing massage to take the edge off shopping.
Pro Filt'r Concealer in 50 shades by Rihanna
There's been all sorts of incredible new launches in the beauty world this 2019 already. From Guerlain's stunning new foundation, to Kylie about to drop a new lash line. Also words out that Urban Decay is dropping two huge makeup bombs this month... but you'll hear about them in another post.
Other huge news is that global superstar, and new girl to the makeup block Rihanna is launching a n absolutely mammoth amount of concealers in an astonishing 50 shades! Imagine it! Some companies just do two - light and dark. 50 should cover every skin tone. The new range of concealers called Pro Filt’r Concealer is to match the 50 shades of Pro Filt'r foundations (which themselves will be expanding by another 10 colours later this year).
Packaged in a clear plastic bottle you can see the shades instantly. So simple, yet so handy rather than opening 50 opaque bottles to find your shade. With regards to consistency, they say about the Pro Filt'r concealer that its formula is “creamy, creaseproof, longwear”.
This concealer is supposed to be particularly good for dark circles - and what we love here at the Global Makeup Awards is that you can choose the right shade exactly for the area of your face. You can go for a brightening concealer for under eye, and a more true to skin tone shade for covering blemishes for example.
This concealer is not hugely available as with all the high end makeup brands. Though you can get your hands on it from online, or if you're in the UK from Harvey Nichols or outside for the lucky ones who have access to Sephora you can find it there.
With an RRP of £19 it's under £20 so won't totally break the bank, but is a nice little splurge for a concealer. To buy online in the UK the Harvey Nichol's site is probably a good place to start perusing the shades.
Thank you Rihanna - we finally feel someone is listening to our makeup needs by providing us with makeup that will actually suit each individual persons skin tone!
Ok ok, none of us can resist a bit of beauty scandal! Especially there team here at the Global Makeup Awards!
If you hadn't heard, Kylie was put in a bit of an awkward situation when her BFF Jordyn is said to have made out with Kylie's sister Khloe. Although Kylie hasn't publicly addressed this news about her best friend, who also lives at her house, there have been some signs that there is tension in the midst.
Jordyn Wood had collaborated in the past with Kylie on a lip kit with a line called 'Jordy'. The makeup mogul is known for making most of her close to a billion dollar fortune from her makeup line Kylie Cosmetics. So it doesn't look like the wisest of moves for Jordyn to not only go against her best friend, but also to jeopardise her relationship with Kylie Cosmetics and her joint line. Indeed, in a seemingly rebellious move, the Jordyn lip kit line price has been slashed by half price. Excellent news for those new to the cosmetics line and who are interested in trying out the line for a discount, or for Kylie fanatics who want to grow their collection at a fraction of the cost. It doesn't seem to be a remainder from the products which were part of January sales, as most of the other products on the website are now back to full price.
The lip kit, Jordy, unfortunately seems to be sold out. It is not known yet if this range will be re-stocked or not. It could also have been a master marketing move to take advantage of the scandal! The makeup in the Jordy line was in raspberry red, including both a liquid lipstick and a matching lip liner. We think they would be great for the category of best lip liner in the Global Makeup Awards, so lets see if they are entered in next years awards!
