Best Direct Selling Beauty Brands - with award winning products from the 2021 Global Green Beauty Awards
Hi again everyone,
Today I’d like to take a deeper look into more winners from the Global Green Beauty Awards. This time - they all have something in common - they are all from MLMs, aka Direct Selling companies. These companies aren't found in shops, but are sold by their distributors, or from the brand's website. There is a lot to squeeze in so let’s not won’t waste any time and jump straight in!
First we’ll take a look at Nu Skin, one of the world’s leading anti-aging companies and originally founded in the United States. They have recently been in the news as last week, in quick response to the current situation in Afghanistan, employees spent a day creating language learning activity sets and toys for refugees arriving in Utah. Additionally, the company made a $20,000 donation to the International Rescue Committee. This impressive act towards helping newly arrived people with a massive culture shock demonstrates not only their company values towards the current global situations but has the added effect of making employees feel like they are directly helping others in need as well as creating a new dynamic between employees, surely deepening bonds and relations.
Nu Skin were gold winners for BEST SHEA BUTTER PRODUCT with their Nu Skin Epoch® Baobab Body Butter Tube. This product is a god send for dry skin, and has a delicious scent that you won't resits.
BEST VEGAN MAKEUP BRUSH GOLD WINNER was Tropic for their EcoArtist 3in1 Eye Brush. Founder and CEO, Susie Ma, grew up in the tropical North Queensland City of Cairns in Australia. Inspired and educated by her grandmother who was a medicinal chemist and toxicologist, Susie learned that skins needs to be treated with healthy and natural ingredients. Fortunately, the tropical climate was rich in exotic plants and this has influenced the products used at Tropic.
BEST VEGAN ANTI AGEING PRODUCT GOLD WINNER went to MONAT and their Botanic Bakuchiol Lotio. Founded in 2014, Monat has three principles which it bases its practice on; the first of which is Healthy Planet as they carefully assess and audit their environmental impacts and strive to be as eco-friendly as possible, the second is Purposeful Business and Products which includes using natural and sustainable products, and the third is Joyful People and Communities.
GOLD WINNER for BEST PLANT BASED BEAUTY PRODUCT was awarded to Arbonne and their AgeWell Collagen Nurturing Serum with 2% Bakuchiol. Arbonne are committed to the link between inner and outer beauty, understanding the direct connection between the two. They combine intense scientific research with top-grade plant ingredients to create safe, clean products which they are clearly immensely proud of, and rightly so. All Arbonne products are Vegan, Cruelty-Free, Formulated Gluten-free. Their philosophy is made up of 4 key factors, all rooted in scientific research. They are-
Plant Based Ingredients
High Clean Standards
Co-development with experts
Finally, let's take a closer look at Silver Winner for MOST INNOVATIVE GREEN PRODUCT SILVER which went to Young Living for their CBD Beauty Boost. I love the way these guys describe themselves so rather than paraphrase I’ll share this wonderful statement from their website where they describe their purpose-
“We are distillers and dreamers, creators and caretakers, farmers and family. We uplift and enhance lives around the world through nature’s living energy—essential oils.”
In addition to these beautiful words, Young Living are also taking really impressive action, here are just some of their achievements so far!
99 percent landfill-free status at our largest distribution center
Green Business of the Year and Recycler of the Year (2019)
Minimising environmental impact with their packaging
Using only high-grade natural ingredients
Do check them out and all the other great brands who were winners at the 2021 Global Green Beauty Awards!
Until next time, ciao for now!
Graydon Skincare, The Humble Co. and Juice Beauty - winners in the 2021 Global Green Beauty Awards with their incredible bamboo products
Hi again everyone!
I hope you are good and September is going well! Personally, I’m always a bit sad about the end of summer but sometimes September can be a really great month with good weather and smaller crowds! Here in Italy the weather has been really good and it's still warm enough to eat outside yet cool enough to sleep at night. Thank goodness!
In the last blog we explored the stories behind some of the winners from the last Global Green Beauty Awards, specifically those with hemp as an ingredient!
In today’s blog I want to take a better look at the winners of the Best Bamboo Product category, a new category within our Green Beauty Awards.
Let’s begin with the Gold Winner which was Graydon Skincare with their Bamboo Charcoal Konjac Sponge. This product is 100% vegan and 100% biodegradable. It becomes jelly like when wet, but when dry, it shrinks in size ready for the next use. Made with 100% biodegradable konjac plant fiber and bamboo charcoal, this sponge is the ultimate tool to detoxify pores, smooth your skin and thoroughly cleanse your face. This product was a truly brilliant entry in the 2021 Global Green Beauty Awards and was a well deserved winner. Bamboo is one of those miracle ingredients which can be used so many ways in the beauty industry.
This Canadian company has been going for about nine years and founder Graydon Moffat featured last month on City TV Breakfast television (see here). Interviewed in her immaculate kitchen, Graydon explained how her previous experience as a yoga instructor and a vegan chef as well as her holistic approach feeds into her philosophy behind her skincare business.
During the TV interview Graydon explains that her mission is to give people the chance to have a good skin day every day through products with simple, natural ingredients and to play a part in people all over the world feeling good about themselves! I love how simply and sincerely she states that and it’s clear that she loves her work! Additionally, the website proudly declares their ingredients to be dermatologist and clinically tested, hypoallergenic, non-irritating, vegan as well as cruelty-free.
Silver winner was The Humble Co. for their Interdental Brush / Bamboo. Established in 2013 by dentist Noel Abdayem and based in Sweden they follow the typical Scandinavian model which loves simplicity and efficiency. Inspired by a trip to Jamaica where he did voluntary work, Noah returned and set up the company which boasts products in over 40,000 stores and clinics worldwide.
It’s not surprising that they are so popular as the oceans are filled with old plastic toothbrushes (every single year we go through 10 billion plastical oral care products). It's clear that there is not only a demand but an absolute necessity for The Humble Co. to continue with its fight to give us high quality oral care in an environmentally friendly way!
Bronze winner was the super Juice Beauty for their Bamboo Pore Refining Mask. We loved this mask as it keeps help spots at bay. It contains bamboo charcoal & kaolin clay to help detox; Aspen bark to help smooth & hydrate, and exfoliating polyhydroxy acids for a softer, smoother complexion.
Founder Karen Behnke already had a wealth of experience as an entrepreneur in the wellness industry but her pregnancy at 40 and the changes in her hormonal balance inspired her to develop a skincare product which would work for others like her who are concerned that our skin absorbs the products we use on it and wanted effective solutions which were not harmful to the body or the environment. Her goal was not just to provide products that were as good as conventional options, but actually better. Consequently she spent five years working with scientists to explore complex organic formulations. Juice Beauty was founded in 2005 and is Vegan, Cruelty Free, Sustainable and they use Certified Organic Ingredients.
So, thanks for joining me for a closer look at the newest category for our 2021 Green Beauty Awards and at this year’s winners!
I’ll be back soon to delve deeper into the stories behind more of our winners.
Ciao for now!

AUSTRALIAN AND NEW ZEALAND AWARD WINNING BEAUTY BRANDS FROM THE 2021 GLOBAL GREEN BEAUTY AWARDS
Hi again everybody,
As you know, the 2021 Global Green Awards are an international affair, the clue is the name, right? Even so, we were delighted to have had so many winners from Australia and New Zealand; today I’d like to take a closer look at what makes those brands tick!
First of all we have P’URE Papayacare who won two GOLD awards. They were judged to be number one in the BEST NATURAL BEAUTY PRODUCT category for their P’URE Papayacare Skin Food and also took GOLD for BEST NATURAL BODY PRODUCT with their P'URE Payacare Papaya Renew Cream.
This wonderful New Zealand brand was started by a group of Naturopaths (I love this word!!!) who had a brand ethos of being Natural By Nature. They strictly use food grade ingredients and are passionate about avoiding any kind of ingredient which could be harmful, especially chemical ingredients. As the name implies, they use Papaya ingredients due to their vitamins, minerals and healthy enzymes.
Meanwhile, Australia’s Founders Formula took home Gold for BEST VEGAN SKINCARE PRODUCT for their Phyto-A+ Australian Native Tobacco Serum. Founded by anthropologist Dr Annie Holden who used her scientific knowledge to identify that Australian plants have some amazing properties which they have evolved due to the isolated nature of the country and these powerful adaptations to living in the extreme Australian climate mean they can be excellent ingredients for the skin. Even more interestingly, there are still thousands of plants which are yet to be studied so there is potential for even more exciting news in the future. Definitely a company to keep an eye on!
Editor’s Choice Gold Winner at the Global Green Awards was TE WAI ~ 'The Water' from New Zealand. Founders Brooke & Carrick Graham spent 3 years doing their research before providing us with an incredible hydrating fine-mist face spray that they feel does justice to New Zealand’s breathtaking natural beauty and wild freshness. Experienced travelers, Brooke & Carrick clearly have huge pride in their homeland and a strong desire to promote it to the rest of the world. With TE WAI they have created a product which really makes anyone who uses it feel the desire to visit New Zealand!
GOLD WINNER for MOST INNOVATIVE 'GREEN' PRODUCT went to Sensori FRESHIELD™ Mask Sanitiser Byron Bay Breeze 2481. A Brilliant idea, especially in these covid times, where the product sanitises your face mask, and also helps provide a fresh scent and prevent mask acne!
SENSORI+ was created by three very different individuals with three very different expertise yet a shared passion for wellbeing and sustainability. They state their raison d’etre is to “anticipate and provide the latest wellbeing solutions whilst being the positive force behind the evolutionary changes across the community”.
Finally, Australian brand Three Warriors won Gold for BEST CLEAN BEAUTY PRODUCT with their Face Tan Aqua Mist. Once again Three Warriors have a great back story behind the product. Founder Corbin Halliday openly admits not being too concerned about the ingredients used in skin products or indeed in food before falling seriously ill, realising how many toxins were in everyday products and completely reevaluating lifestyle choices. Consequently, Three Warriors are strongly committed to using natural products and providing a safe and healthy alternative to tanning!
I must say I’ve absolutely loved sharing a little bit of background on these Australian and New Zealand companies and wish I could have written more but I do encourage you to visit their websites for a more thorough review of their great stories and admirable business practices!
Until next time, ciao for now!
Award winning Australian and New Zealand Beauty Brands
Hi again everyone!
So in the last blog I wrote about T-Beauty (Taiwanese Beauty) and delved deeper into the stories behind some of the winners from the 2021 ASIA Global Makeup Awards. Today I want to focus on Australian and New Zealand companies which were successful in the awards same awards.
Let’s have a look at some winners from the New Zealand and Australian winners from the ASIA 2021 Global Makeup Awards, as the region 'Asia' was all encompassing for Australasia and Asia.
Soya Garden won 6 awards at the 2021 ASIA Global Makeup Awards, including three Gold Awards for Best Beauty Brand, Best Design & Packaging and Best Moisturizer. Soya Garden draw their inspiration from nature and are relentless in their pursuit of finding the most potent soy products along with the most natural ingredients possible to create products which are New Zealand through and through. They are clearly passionate not only about their products' ability to improve the health of our skin but also in the role this plays in our all-round health and well-being. This is part of the reason why natural ingredients are so important to them. On their website they say
“We’re not about changing the way you look,
We’re out to change the way you feel;
More healthy, more vibrant, more comfortable in your own skin;”
I absolutely love that! So please check out Soya Garden’s wonderful products safe in the knowledge that they are an authentic brand with an admirable ethos and put a touch of New Zealand into your life! They were very well deserving of all their beauty awards this year.
Another New Zealand brand which performed really well at the 2021 Asia Global makeup Awards was Yes Organics with their Lemon & Lime Lip Balm - Lemonade which was BEST LIP BALM GOLD WINNER. Like some other past winners, the Yes Organics story begins with a future entrepreneur’s personal journey of trying to find a product which works for them and is aligned with their ethical values. I love these stories as they are relatable and a world away from some faceless major corporations who sometimes use slick marketing and tricks to mask less than ideal business practices! In this case, Yes Organics started out searching for and then creating a wonderful lip balm but has since then expanded its range to include tinting and anti-aging lip balms as well as cold sore treatments.
They are dedicated to cruelty free, 100% natural and organic lip balms with no preservatives and use premium, fair trade, 100% natural, ethically sourced, cruelty free and certified organic (where possible) ingredients.
Zuii Organic won two Asia Global Makeup Awards, fpr best foundation and best organic beauty brand. Their mission is very clearly stated on their website “creating a much greener and much cleaner future”.
One distinct advantage that Zuii Organic have when making their wonderful products is that they own their own manufacturing facility which obviously gives them complete control over all aspects of production and allows them to ensure that there are no shortcuts or compromises to their values.
Wow, I have so much fun writing these blogs that I’ve gone on a bit too much already! Don’t worry, there is more to come soon but for now I’ll make this sign off brief!
Ciao a tutti!
As we near the end of the month, I want to squeeze in one more blog with some more information about some recent winners at the 2021 UK Global Makeup Awards. It’s really such a treat being able to work alongside such inspiring brands, writing these blogs is a lot of fun and I do urge you to check out some of the Gold Winners we’re looking at today if you haven’t already! So, without further delay, let’s go to the first company who won in our beauty awards!
Alice in Beautyland won gold for Best Luxury Makeup Brand. Inspired by Lewis Caroll’s famous protagonist, the team want to create products that fit in with Alice’s adventurous and courageous approach. Founded by sisters Eva and Aroa, both of whom grew up with sensitive skin and an understanding of how difficult it was to find makeup products which would work for them, Alice in Beautyland champions the diversity of beauty and challenges dated stereotypes and preconceptions. Their fantastic makeup collection includes KISS ME Nº1 WHITE RABBIT LIP BALM, KISS ME LIPSTICK, and BEAUTY ME MINERAL FOUNDATION. All of which were judged as winners in the Global Makeup Awards 2021.
BEST ORGANIC BEAUTY BRAND GOLD WINNER from the UK 2021 Global Makeup Awards went to Dr Botanicals. Once again we find a fantastic brand that has its roots a long way back and is born partially due to an inspirational parental figure. In the case of Dr Botanicals, founder Richard grew up in an innovative environment, his father was a chemist who began creating skin treatments in 1958 while at university. Dr Botanicals was started in 2011 and since then has become a leading luxury vegan brand, while also being behind Organic & Botanic, and the 100% natural brand; Apothecary.
Bio-Oil’ Natural Skincare Oil won gold in the BEST NATURAL PRODUCT category. Launched in 1987, at a time when all other skin products were either creams or lotions, Bio-Oil were pioneers in the use of oil on scars and stretchmarks. Last year they launched a Natural Skincare Oil which uses 100% natural oils and follows on from the success of their original Skincare Oil which was the first product to be scientifically proven to have effective results on improving the appearance of scars and stretch marks. This year marks the launch of a high oil cream moisturiser and , as ever, the team continues to focus on research, leaving distribution matters and sales for licensed skincare companies to deal with.
Forever Living Aloe Liquid Soap were our BEST LIQUID SOAP GOLD WINNER. Founded in 1978 by Rex Maughan, Forever living has transformed from into a huge player in the beauty industry, with a global team of clearly passionate and dedicated colleagues. They know the value of Aloe Vera’s properties and as a result, have created an amazing hand sanitizer which kills 99.9% of bacteria while still being gentle on the skin and giving a beautiful citrus scent.
So, that’s a closer look at some of our recent Gold Winners in the UK 2021 Global Makeup Awards. Aren’t their stories fascinating? We’ll be back soon with more info about some other winners from our beauty awards such as our BEST HAND CREAM GOLD WINNER for Zoetic Lemongrass & Ylang Ylang CBD Hand Cream.
Until next time!
Bye bye from Daniel!
Just a super quick update for those who haven't yet entered. The 2021 Global Green Beauty Awards close on 30th May, so you have until the end of this month to enter.
These awards celebrate the best in green and clean beauty. You'll see a range of categories such as for ethical, organic, natural or vegan beauty products. There is something for every beauty brand - from makeup to skincare, haircare to body care. We also have some fun ingredients based categories such as best 'honey' product or best 'charcoal' product.
Answers to some common FAQs which have been coming in.
There are no launch date requirements - this means the product doesn't have to be a new launch. This helps to keep things ethical as a brand can keep to one product and marketing materials.
We require 6 x product samples - these can be miniatures. If coming from outside of UK we ask you to put that these are PR samples as Brexit has caused a bit of chaos with shipping from outside of UK since January!
We don't require official certification. This as it can be expensive for smaller brands to provide and we want this green beauty awards to be accessible to beauty brands - big and small. Saying that - though we don't ask for official certification you can 1) absolutely show it if you have it 2) do ask you to enter categories you genuinely believe are relevant.
What does 'ethical' mean as a category? This is open to your interpretation. It needs to be green and clean - maybe low waste, or zero miles, or with a village kick-back scheme to help smaller communities. Maybe it is low carbon or maybe you re-plant trees in order to offset emissions.
In other news, our inaugural ASIA 2021 Global Makeup Awards will be announced this Thursday! We are so excited about celebrating Asian and Australian and New Zealand Beauty awards winners. Stay tuned!

Taking a look at some gold winners from the UK 2021 Global Makeup Awards
Hi again everybody!
So in our last In The Spotlight blog we shared some background information about some of the Gold Winners in the UK 2021 Global Makeup Awards Skincare categories. Today, we’d like to focus on some of the winners from the Make-Up categories. This beauty awards was truly competitive so it was great to see such a range of amazing high street and non high street beauty and makeup brands.
Let’s begin with Erborian who came out top in the category of Best Primer with their Pink Primer & Care. This awesome primer has the very convenient added bonus of also being an excellent moisturiser. This toner works amazingly with all different skin tones, (see this YouTube video); the main ingredients of the Pink Primer & Care are Japanese persimmon leaf extract (Diospyros kaki), Japanese Camellia seed oil (Camellia japonica), and Pumpkin seed oil (Curcubita pepo); all known for their antioxidant properties.
Founded in 2007, the Erborian Skin Care Therapy Franco-Korean brand blends the latest technologies with traditional Korean medicines with the goal of helping people to achieve perfect skin.
Let’s now take a look at Fluttery Light No.008 which was the BEST EYE PRODUCT GOLD WINNER for Eylure London. These beautifully hand-made lashes can be used up to five times and enhance lashes to give them a thicker and longer look.
Eylure was established in 1948 although by this point their lashes had already become firm favourites with such icons as Marlene Dietrich, Joan Collins, Ingrid Berman and Sophia Loren. This was due to the fact that the company’s founders were renowned make-up artists in the movie industry. They were also used to give Elizabeth Taylor her famous Cleopatra look. By the 1960’s, their lashes had become extremely popular with the general public
Next, we’ll look at our BEST FOUNDATION GOLD WINNER - Carter Beauty Miracle with their Measure Youth Boost Foundation. A wonderfully clean product, this foundation is fragrance-free and oil-free as well as being vegan friendly and PETA approved. It is enriched with vitamins C and E and also HYALURONIC ACID (HA), a naturally occuring substance in skin which helps to keep it hydrated.
Carter Beauty by Marissa Carter takes great pride and care in being Peta-approved while Marissa is adamant that her products must be of the highest quality yet always affordable. Furthermore, Marissa really knows her stuff and her blog is a really fantastic resource for us all! She shares a lot of really valuable expertise, its hard to believe that her beauty guides are even free! She could probably make a lot of money if she charged for them! Her Foundation 101 guide
Finally, our BEST CONCEALER GOLD WINNER was for Jane Iredale with the Enlighten Plus Under-Eye Concealer. This 100% cruelty free and vegan-friendly concealer is especially great for providing protection from the sun while also smoothing and depuffing the eyes. Jane started the brand over 25 years ago, long before anyone was talking about ‘Clean Beauty’. Her own values fit perfectly with that description though and after working with actors and finding that many make-up products were damaging to their skin, she set about creating makeup that is actually kind to the skin.
Well, there are four great brands to check out. We hope you’ve enjoyed reading as much as we have writing this blog. We’ll be back soon with another In The Spotlight of the best products from our beauty awards.
Until then, ciao!!!
Dan - The GMA Team
What an exciting time! Last week we announced the winners of the 2021 UK Global Makeup Awards.
This is the most thrilling part of the job and we absolutely love being able to provide recognition to the best in the business! Read the full list of UK winners here on our website which includes reading our free beauty magazine Global Makeup Magazine which goes into more details on all of this year's beauty awards winners.
In today’s blog, we’d like to shine a light on some of the skincare winners, so you know a little more about the products as well as the people and companies behind them!
Let’s begin with EcoTan by Sonya Driver with the Super Citrus Cleanser which deservedly won gold for the Best Cleanser and silver for Hempitan for the category of Best Fake Tan! The story behind the brand Eco by Sonya is both touching and inspiring. After going through an extremely traumatic period and having her life turned upside down, Sonya then discovered her sister had to have a melanoma removed from her arm, leaving a significant scar. After discovering that tanning products which were being advertised as 99% natural were actually very misleading, Sonya decided to start her own brand. The brand now boasts a range of great products and Sonya says the Super Citrus Cleanser is her favourite as it cleanses skin beautifully in a non-harmful way. Also, the bottle is so big that she also uses it as body lotion!
Now, we’ll take a deeper look at the Gold Winner for best toner! SkinChemists Advanced Brightening Toner beat some stiff competition to walk away with the award, now let us tell you a little more about their story and you might see why they also won one of our most prestigious categories - Gold for Best Luxury Skincare brand as well as a few other wins under their belt in this year's 2021 UK Global Makeup Awards.
Richard Walker, the founder and MD of SkinChemists is clearly very proud of both the brand and its history, and it’s easy to see why. The company started eleven years ago although Richard grew up around skincare products, his father being a chemist who was passionate and clear about wanting to create products which would make the world a better place! Richard also has a very clear goal! He states that his objective for SkinChemists is to become the world’s #1 cosmeceutical brand. He is also understandably proud of their remarkable achievement of selling 1,500 units within 24 hours of their website first going live!
The Advanced Brightening Toner is a fantastic product which gives skin a healthy, even glow and radiates health. It's also great for acne care as well as maintaining skin elasticity and providing smoothing, softening and moisturising properties.
So once again, big congratulations to Skinchemists London and to EcoTan by Sonya. Both deserved Gold Winners at this year’s UK 2021 Global Makeup Awards and both with wonderful and inspiring back stories behind the brands. We honestly think that the companies that clearly have a strong passion for what they do always create the best products and it’s so interesting to read about their journeys and the reasons behind them wanting to create their own products!
Well, that’s it for now but keep your eyes peeled as we have several more In The Spotlight blogs planned over the next weeks as we look forward to learning more about the winners of this year’s UK 2021 Global Makeup Awards!
See you soon!

REN Clean Skincare - double win in the 2020 Global Green Beauty Awards
Today's 'In the Spotlight' is on the beauty cult-classics: REN's Evercalm Day Cream and their Atlantic Kelp and Magnesium Body Wash. It was a winner in the 2020 Global Green Beauty Awards. The judging panel all loved the density and hydration of this moisturiser and many of us commented how good it was on sensitive skin and did not aggravate red areas. This is a product of long standing. First introduced on the market some twenty years ago it utilises Global protection Complex blending antioxidant and free radicals. This combined with soothing and nourishing seed oils helps protect the skin against both dehydration (and who hasn’t had the central heating on full blast recently) and the effects of pollution which can cause premature ageing.
To showcase this iconic product and celebrate twenty years of its position in the marketplace REN have strengthened its sustainability ethos in the form of the packaging of this lovely cream. REN is genuinely concerned with the packaging using technology which allows for the recycling of plastic waste.
This extends through their product line. The REN CLean Skincare Atlantic Kelp & Magnesium Anti-Fatigue Body Wash, which awakens and refreshes sluggish skin. REN has teamed up with recycling innovator Terracycle to create their new bottle. Recycled plastic isn’t as clear as first-use plastic - so they chose their Atlantic Kelp and Magnesium Body Wash to sport a darker recycled bottle, in homage to its ocean-sourced bioactives. With this darker 'grey' bottle, it means there will be cleaner beaches, oceans and a healthier planet. This Body Wash won Gold for 'Best Shower Product' in the 2020 Global Green Beauty Awards as a result of this green and clean ethics. This beauty awards is all about sustainability and REN Clean skincare has shown it from start to finish.
REN state they were the first luxury beauty brand to support this recycling technology in partnership with SABIC and Aptar and named the process “Infinity Recycling’ as part of their aim to achieve zero waste. Infinity recycling implements heat and pressure to break down the plastic waste rather than the existing mechanical method involving cutting plastic down, washing and remelting it.
At the moment the company are absorbing the cost of this new sustainable technology in the hope that it will become less expensive in the future and feature across more brands, All in all a well deserved silver and gold for Ren Clean Skincare in the 2020 Global Green Beauty Awards Best Sustainable Beauty Product and Best Shower Product. A great proven SPF moisturiser and shower gel that has been repackaged using new technology.
