More of our favourite beauty Christmas advent calendarsHi everyone!
I hope you managed to get your entries to the Scandinavian Global Makeup Awards in on time! We’re going to have a really busy time in the run-up to Christmas but it’s absolutely worth it because these awards are so much fun to do! Then we can all have a well-deserved Christmas break! Speaking of Christmas fun, beauty advent calendars are becoming increasingly popular and make a wonderful gift to a loved one. As much as I love the chocolate ones, I think it's great that finally there’s some more creativity around the tradition and it makes a lot of sense because December is a month where skin can really suffer from the weather. Personally, I find the Christmas period is also a lot more social than the few months preceding it so many of us will want to feel more confident when we are seeing friends and family who we haven’t seen in a while and meeting up with colleagues out of work. Now, having just checked the leading fashion, beauty and lifestyle magazines, all of a sudden I’m not feeling so original as just in the last few days, they have all posted their own lists of the top beauty advent calendars. And they are long lists too, illustrating how popular these have become. Here are some of the titles: Glamour Magazine - 59 best beauty advent calendars of 2022 containing makeup, skincare, fragrance & haircare goodies Hello Magazine - 60 best Beauty Advent Calendars 2022 Cosmopolitan - 58 Best Beauty Advent Calendars 2022 I like how these lists cover not only the major brands in beauty but also include independent companies. They are also very clear regarding prices so we can quickly make a decision as to whether something is in our price range. I have to say though, the standards of the advent calendars are really high. The packaging is beautiful and they would definitely make fantastic gifts. We do need to make sure we are aware of the sizes of the different products. Many of the products are in travel-size or sample size containers so make sure you check before you buy. They all boast of huge savings compared to buying separately - but be sure to check any special products you have your eye on are full sized before buying. If you are considering buying one of these, remember that you need to get them quick! Kiehl’s stunning and limited edition offer is already out of stock although you can register for notifications on their new website so you can be alerted once they are available again. If, like me, you tend to leave Christmas shopping until the last minute then getting advent calendars in time for December 1st is not quite as simple as it seems but I do love how these traditions add a little bit of love and magic to each day in December and no doubt these are really thoughtful gifts for people who we want to feel special! Thanks again for joining me. I’ll be back again soon but right now I need to peruse all the advent calendar gift sets a bit more! Ciao for now Dan

I love all things Scandinavia - S beauty, the countries , the expos the Hygge!Hi everyone,
How are you enjoying the recent transition of the seasons! As I write this on Sunday morning I’m thinking about going out for a hike in the mountains later. I love the clean air, being in the middle of nature, and the view from the top of the mountain. One side looks out across the lake and today the air is very clear so we should be able to see for miles. The other side looks out across untouched forest, a completely different world. But first, I have some important information!!! Entries close for the Scandinavia Global Makeup Awards on Monday 7th November so you don’t have much time to get your entries in. I really love Scandinavia and I also really love their beauty brands. Actually, I think I love the countries and the brands for the same reasons I love walking in the mountains. The appreciation of nature, the clean air, the connection to the planet. I’m always impressed at how Scandinavian brands seem to be ahead of the game when it comes to green beauty and business responsibility so these awards are fantastic to be a part of. The standards of all the brands are so high, I honestly feel that Scandinavia is right at the forefront of beauty innovation and an example of how brands should be run. Last year’s awards were so exciting to be a part of. We celebrated success with some of the area’s top brands including Dr.Ankerstjerne, White Lotus, Glam of Sweden, Rosenserien, Henrik Vibskov, Haan, Humderkin as well as many others. Just writing about last year’s events is making me excited about my next Trip to Finland in May. Last time I went I was amazed by the hospitality of the locals and the beauty of the area. I enjoyed authentic sauna’s, camping in the forest, great food and some of the cleanest air you can breathe. If you haven’t visited yet, I can’t recommend it enough. Actually, there are also some excellent Beauty expos coming up, beginning in Sweden with Eco Life Scandinavia Malmö 16. - 17. November 2022 | The leading sustainable living trade fair in Scandinavia. This event is specifically for vegan and free-from products, an area which many of last year’s winners have a great deal of expertise in. Then, in March 2023 there is the Hair and Beauty Finland Expo (18.-19.03.2022) which will take place in Helsinki. Those are just some ideas for those of you who may be interested in a trip to the homelands of some of the best beauty products on the market. More pressingly though, is the deadline for the 2022 Scandinavia Global Makeup Awards which is tomorrow! So if your brand is based in Scandinavia or connected to the area don’t hesitate to get involved so that all your hard work can be recognised. I’ll sign off here and start making some sandwiches for my hike but I’ll be back again very soon! Ciao for now Dan Winners showcase for the 2021 Scandinavia Global Makeup Awards

Our Nordic cousins are known for their minimalist, high quality ingredients, and this year definitely did not disappoint with the incredible range of high quality entries. Wishing you all a wonderful Christmas, and see you on 6th January for the opening of our Global Makeup Awards for UK, ASIA and USA. Peace and love Dom Hello you beauties,
This December brings the last month of the whirlwind that has been 2020, and we are choosing to go out with a bang by announcing tomorrow our last beauty awards for the year: The 2020 Scandinavian Global Makeup Awards. In this beauty magazine, you can read all the winners for 2020. It is so much fun doing our makeup and beauty awards region by region. In this year's Scandinavia region, we see the hottest brands from the brassicaly cold Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Iceland. The Nordics opt for a cleaner, and more eco friendly type of beauty - with product packaging often being recyclable, and the products itself often organic, non toxic and also usually non harmful to the environment. The products themselves are usually of extremely high quality and they tend to prefer a more minimalistic approach to beauty. Less is more, and the Scandinavians tend to prefer less bottles over more. Packaging, like the number of beauty products in their cabinet, is scaled black. There is more monochrome, more simplicity and yet more style. There was a myriad of entries in this years 2020 Scandinavian Global Makeup Awards and we had so many notable winners. For Hair and Body brands such as Rosenserien, to Sweden Eco, Eleni & Chris and Zenz Organic to makeup brands such as IDUN Minerals and Karmameju's beautiful new BB suncreams. We were excited to welcome this year SkinChemists, Dr Botanicals and Esse to the skincare categories along side past winners such as Barr Sweden and FOREO (who have launched their incredible beauty gadgets BEAR and UFO2. Other notable winners are Icelandic luxury skincare brand Taramar - which uses algae at the forefront of their science. Primex Iceland - which uses Chitosan as its unique ingredient (sustainable prawn shells from the Atlantic Ocean). Marina Miracle showcased their incredible range, from their lash and eyebrow serum which was a winner in previous awards as well as showcasing their skincare range - we loved their sweet and creamy oil cleanser. Aiia was also a strong winner in this years awards with its high end skincare founded upon water based serums. Winners in our beauty awards receive an entry on our website, an image and text in our online magazine and a certificate. Brands can even choose to further promote their win with a perspex trophy. The 2021 Scandinavian Global Makeup Awards will return September 15th 2021. With over 300 entrants it's impossible to name them all in one post, but we hope you enjoy reading our favourites in Global Makeup Magazine. Who knows what next year will have in store for us and the world. We were so impressed with all the brands ability to go with the flow all with the backdrop of a global pandemic which impacted staff working from home, warehouse organisation and postage logistics. In the face of such uncertainty, we know next year will be bigger and brighter as we saw such an impressive range of products entered. Products that can provide that much needed pick-me-up for those who have had to close themselves up at home with lockdown after lockdown enforced. To all our readers - Thank You! We are so happy so many of you tune into Global Makeup Magazine, and we wish you the happiest of Christmas Holidays and New Years. The Global Makeup Awards commences again from January 1st, launching with our biggest region for the Global Makeup Awards and then followed shortly after by Global Green Beauty Awards - which celebrates all green beauty and eco beauty award winners. Wishing you a safe December Dominique Editor of Global Makeup Magazine Hello to all our lovely readers,
The entries for this year's 2020 Scandinavian Global Makeup Awards have officially closed now. We are still accepting late product sample deliveries because of all the crazy world events that have been going on, including a UK lockdown 2.0. Entries for the Scandinavian Global Makeup Awards are for all brands which are either Scandinavian (so beauty brands from Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark or Iceland) or other beauty brands which sell in those nordic beauty markets. We were expecting to see a hit on entries for this year's awards given the global circumstances, but actually, entries have soared. We had DOUBLE, that's right, double, the number of entrants compared to last year's 2019 Scandinavian Global Makeup Awards. So this has us thinking - how has COVID19 affected the beauty market in Scandinavia? We have already looked into its impact in previous blog posts for how it has impacted the American Beauty Market and UK Beauty Market. The Nordics, however, have had different lockdown procedures, different healthcare, different economies and of course different social impacts. Euromonitor looked specifically at Sweden in a study (which is famous for not following a national lockdown like other countries during 2020.) Though they saw premium products were in greater demand, they also saw profit margins were under pressure. Read their full article here. Even more encouraging, they expect the markets to bounce back strongly for the personal care and beauty sector in 2021, as they expected many Swedes to make postponed beauty purchases in 2021. Furthermore, according to National News Service, an interesting thing to consider wit Scandinavia is that all 5 countries are developed countries whose consumers have money to keep their personal care product traders afloat. Another trend which has thrived in 2020 despite the coronavirus pandemic is that of Green and sustainable beauty in Scandinavia. There is an increased preference for vegan, organic and natural beauty products. The Nordic countries are looking to avoid toxic ingredients and want to be more socially responsible looking for more sustainable products. With the 2020 Scandinavian Global Makeup Awards coming up, it will be interesting to see if we see this trend in our beauty awards. The winners will be announced soon on the 10th December 2020 in the online magazine Global Makeup Magazine. The categories are not only for makeup, but for a whole range of personal care and cosmetic products. According to Mordor, the Scandinavians and especially the Swedes have a 'relatively high purchasing power' - so perhaps not only will we see an increase in green beauty products but also in luxury goods as well. This is our last beauty awards for 2020, and we truly hope next year will bring the beauty markets a bounceback, not just for the Scandi regions, but globally. We cancelled what would have been the inaugural year for the Asian Global Makeup Awards because of the outbreak of the pandemic in January, but little did we know what mother nature had in store for us for the whole globe in 2020. After yesterday's news of a vaccine, we can only hope of a year of more stability next year. Despite so many hurdles that the markets have had to jump over this year, we have seen an incredible number of entries and resilience from the beauty brands. We look forward to promoting the wins of the brands in December and look forward to the clock striking 12 on New Year's Eve, where hopefully things take a turn and we will have a slam dunk in to the New Year and see a strong growth for the personal care markets. If you want to see confirmation of the old adage that two heads are better than one, look no further than the story of FIINI skincare products. 20 years ago two young girls made friends at High School. Their common ideology became more and more entwined as they matured and had families and homes of their own. At the root of their shared passions was a belief in all things natural ranging from handicrafts to nature and animals.
In the search for finding a skin care solution suitable for sensitive skin these two passionate women created their own skin care range. Heidi had always used natural products in the care of her animals using long passed down family recipes. Essi was searching for the perfect combination of local products for her sensitive skin and thus was born their own skincare range. The resulting oat and honey cream is one of the company’s best sellers and the forerunner of the many products they now offer. The ethos of staying close to nature as their approach to family life. Their products are biodegradable and are in harmony with their environment. The women promise honesty and naturalness. All the oils and fats used in their cosmetics are cold pressed and unpurified. All raw ingredients are natural. No industrial preservations, additives, perfumes or colourants are used. All the creams and liquids are packaged in recyclable aluminium and glass containers. Given their love of animals, animal welfare is just as important. No product testing on animals here. So let's take a look at the products this company has put forward to Global Make Up Awards in the category of .... First product we have been testing Is FIINI Oat Sea Buckthorne Oil Serum. Not just a moisturiser but also helps inflammation and reddening. The oat content stimulates the skin’s metabolism, increases elasticity and stimulates collagen production. Ingredients include beta carotene, vitamins A, C and E, plus Omegas 3, 6 and 9 which promotes skin renewal. It can also be used in lightening the appearance of liver spots. We are also testing another of their droppers, the blackcurrant face oil particularly formulated for oily and combination skin. Ingredients include Jojoba, blackcurrant seed oil and rosemary. Another of their products with blackcurrant is is their Balm to Milk Cleanser with Blackcurrant. This syrupy looking product literally changes shape and form with the addition of water and rubs into the skin with a milk consistency. Finally we are testing their 50 ml tin of shea butter. Great for the handbag or pocket when you go out on a chill day. Shea butter has been used as a cosmetic ingredient for centuries and is particularly effective for acne, cell regeneration and burns. Great for protecting your lips ain’t the cold weather and moisturising when sitting in central heating. Fiini Naturally won multiple awards in the 2020 Global Green Beauty Awards - you can read all of the winner's here on our past winners page. Judges were wowed by the ethics behind the brand, the simple natural ingredients and also their dedication to sustainable packaging. In fact, did you know all of their beauty products are packaged in recyclable glass or metal jars and their cardboard boxes are made of recycled cardboard. To ensure ecological logistics further commit to sourcing their ingredients in large batches and without plastic wrapping. After a long, steamy summer the nights are drawing in earlier, heating is going on and time for a bit of cosy on down.
The Danish and Norwegians have a word for this. Hygge. A hug for the soul, mind and consciousness. Giving yourself a pamper and creating a feeling of ease and contentment. Hard in the current climate. It’s not just the weather assaulting our mind and body but the current pandemic is making us all keep to our homes whether by choice or legislation. It seems an appropriate time to look at beauty products coming from our colder cousins, as they are the pioneers of S-Beauty aka Scandinavian Beauty. Think of all things Nordic, including the people, and the ability to keep fresh and strong comes to mind. People who have known how to take care of themselves in extremes of weather, keep safe, well and healthy. Great respecters of their environment and of themselves, and known for natural, clean beauty products. In fact, this is why we created the Scandinavian Global Makeup Awards - as those from the Scandinavian countries, have a wholly different approach to skincare and cosmetics, keeping things clean and natural. We may not want to run naked through the snow to throw ourselves into a natural hot geyser but we would all like to know what pleasure is aroused buy this act. Because there must be a pay off! So, we must look to the Skandi natural resources that we can use and indeed practice the respect they ave for our living world. The judges have been long been admirers of SKOGEN products, who were winners in the 2019 Scandinavian Global Makeup Awards and the 2020 Global Green Beauty Awards. Not just because of Skogen Cosmetics fabulous packaging which in itself is worthy to grace the shelves of any discerning designer led aficionado but the contents are truly amazing. Our judges have had The Jasmine Collection on test. Giving or receiving these products is an act of hygge in itself. The outer packaging is an extremely well manufactured box in royal blue but on opening the inside has been decorated with beautiful photographic scenes from the countryside. Just to get you in the right frame of mind. Every products differs with its interior. And sitting regally inside this gorgeous presentation box sit a violet blue capsule which seems to float inside a transparent outer covering. Even the men sit up and notice the beauty of the presentation of the SKOGEN Range. The underlying theme of the serums and creams is Jasmine. This is a beautiful fragrance for those who don’t like their products too earthy. And luckily we are all different so it's lovely to have a fragranced option. SKOGEN is a Swedish/US collaboration. Definitely a high end product the products have given great results. We love the fact that these luxury products still retain the criteria of being healthy and environmentally friendly. The Face Serum and Day Moisturiser leave the skin feeling wonderfully fed and radiant. Using the serum in conjunction with the Night moisturiser results in skin ready to face the day! SKOGEN EYE SERUM and EYE CREAM definitely helped this delicate area of the face minimising dark circles and invigorating this part of the face that many of us need help with. Especially when sleep has been hard to find! Last but certainly not least the Judges loved the non surgical Face Mask. King Tut would have loved this product. Looking like a gold mask this product contains a full set of 12 treatments which are soaked in a highly concentrated serum. Ingredients include hyaluronic acid, algae extract, we carat gold and vitamins to leave the skin rejuvenated, deeply nourished and radiant. This product also importantly stimulates cell vitality to enhance firmness. Use it post procedures to stimulate healing. Use it to minimise redness and even skin tones. Or just use it for a bit of your own hygge! Be sure to look out for other Scandi brands in the upcoming 2020 Scandinavian Global Makeup Awards, where the winners will be announced on 10th December in Global Makeup Magazine. These beauty awards celebrate all things beauty and Nordic. |
