More of our favourite beauty Christmas advent calendarsHi everyone!
I hope you managed to get your entries to the Scandinavian Global Makeup Awards in on time! We’re going to have a really busy time in the run-up to Christmas but it’s absolutely worth it because these awards are so much fun to do! Then we can all have a well-deserved Christmas break! Speaking of Christmas fun, beauty advent calendars are becoming increasingly popular and make a wonderful gift to a loved one. As much as I love the chocolate ones, I think it's great that finally there’s some more creativity around the tradition and it makes a lot of sense because December is a month where skin can really suffer from the weather. Personally, I find the Christmas period is also a lot more social than the few months preceding it so many of us will want to feel more confident when we are seeing friends and family who we haven’t seen in a while and meeting up with colleagues out of work. Now, having just checked the leading fashion, beauty and lifestyle magazines, all of a sudden I’m not feeling so original as just in the last few days, they have all posted their own lists of the top beauty advent calendars. And they are long lists too, illustrating how popular these have become. Here are some of the titles: Glamour Magazine - 59 best beauty advent calendars of 2022 containing makeup, skincare, fragrance & haircare goodies Hello Magazine - 60 best Beauty Advent Calendars 2022 Cosmopolitan - 58 Best Beauty Advent Calendars 2022 I like how these lists cover not only the major brands in beauty but also include independent companies. They are also very clear regarding prices so we can quickly make a decision as to whether something is in our price range. I have to say though, the standards of the advent calendars are really high. The packaging is beautiful and they would definitely make fantastic gifts. We do need to make sure we are aware of the sizes of the different products. Many of the products are in travel-size or sample size containers so make sure you check before you buy. They all boast of huge savings compared to buying separately - but be sure to check any special products you have your eye on are full sized before buying. If you are considering buying one of these, remember that you need to get them quick! Kiehl’s stunning and limited edition offer is already out of stock although you can register for notifications on their new website so you can be alerted once they are available again. If, like me, you tend to leave Christmas shopping until the last minute then getting advent calendars in time for December 1st is not quite as simple as it seems but I do love how these traditions add a little bit of love and magic to each day in December and no doubt these are really thoughtful gifts for people who we want to feel special! Thanks again for joining me. I’ll be back again soon but right now I need to peruse all the advent calendar gift sets a bit more! Ciao for now Dan

Ciao everybody!
Phew! It's 37 degrees here in Italy. We are all struggling and even trying to sleep is really difficult! I’m lucky to live near the beach though so I’ve had some nice, refreshing dips in the lake although as soon as I get out I’m all sweaty again! I’m excited because I’m flying back to London this Friday and I can't wait to see my family and my Global Makeup Awards colleagues who I really miss! I’ve been looking forward to the UK’s cooler weather and I know it’s been pretty hot there too but I’ve just checked the iphone app and it’s looking like mid-twenties in the day and much, much cooler at night! Woohoo! Last month I wrote a blog about winners of the Best SPF Beauty Products and how important they are not only during heat waves but even throughout winter. If you are heading anywhere hot this summer - it's crucial to remember an SPF lip balm as lips are so delicate and are better protected with a balm than sun lotion. A true holiday beauty must have. In today’s blog I would like to look at some other great products which have the added benefits of including protection against UV rays. The Best Lip Balm winner at the 2022 UK Global Makeup Awards was for SNOWBERRY RED Multi-active balm UVA|UVB SPF30 by Albus and Flora. Albus and Flora was founded by physiologist Rachel Williams BSc(Hons), MSc(Dist) who previously had a 10 year career in academia which also involved publishing research and consultancy roles for Team GB at 3 olympic games. Rachel’s inspiration for starting the brand came after skiing in the French Alps where she witnessed first hand the damage UV rays could cause to the lips. This led to her combining her expertise in physiology and science-backed research with her passion for natural botanics. The brand also shares really valuable information and advice on how to protect our skin from sun damage. UV rays and pollutants create free radicals in the skin, which cause oxidative stress that can break down collagen. After a weekend in the sun, it's really important to counteract the damage free radicals can cause with plant-based antioxidants. Serums and moisturisers that have ingredients like green tea, vitamin C, and turmeric extract are the best for treating skin after sun exposure. A look at the brand’s ingredients policy also shows a real commitment to natural ingredients and a solid understanding of the chemicals which are commonly used in cosmetics and the harm they can do to us. In addition to finding natural alternatives to harmful chemicals, the products are also fragrance-free. Furthermore they also strive to use ingredients which are sourced in a sustainable manner and are devoted to using 100% recyclable cardboard in their packaging. Naturally they also avoid any kind of animal testing. If you haven’t already checked out their lip balms, I urge you to do so! This blog has also been a great reminder for me to take care of my lips, especially during this hot period! You guys look after yourselves too! It’s so easy to forget about these things when we’re having fun in the sun! I’ll be back soon! Ciao for now Dan Hi everyone,
We have been so busy and excited recently since we announced the Winners of the UK 2022 Global Makeup Awards. We received over 250 entries into this year's UK 2022 Global Makeup Awards, there was fierce competition among the best brands in the industry. We were so impressed with the quality of the products which entered! The products were judged over a period of several months by our judges who eventually decided on the best beauty products for 2022 within the UK. There is a full winners list within Global Makeup Magazine on this website, but in today’s blog and in the next few blogs I’m going to take a closer look at the people behind some of the winning brands. Carter Beauty were Gold Winners in the Best Primer category for their wonderful Youth boost primer and serum. You probably already know about Marissa Carter, who is extremely popular on social media for her fantastic tutorials and the brave and honest way she shares all her challenges and successes with her followers. If you don’t yet know much about Marissa then I’ll just briefly outline her career! She has over 20 years’ experience in the beauty business and has a reputation for driving innovation, being behind nearly 150 make-up products, many of which are sold across the 1500 Walmart stores across the USA. The first Irish brand to reach this amazing achievement. Furthermore, her products are stocked in 23 countries, and sales average three bottles per minute. The great thing about Marissa’s social media pages is that we see directly the hard work and passion behind the scenes as well as the ups and downs! Sometimes we’ll see the glamorous side such as appearances at the Oscars and sometimes she’ll share her struggles and frustrations in a way that we can all relate to. Let’s take a look now at Gold Winner for Best Lash / Brow Product which went to Marina Miracle for their Eyelash & Brow Serum. Founded by Marina Elisabeth Engervik who aged just 4, ended up in hospital due to her eczema. If you’ve read my previous blogs then you’ll know that deeply personal experiences similar to this are often the catalysts behind the creation of the best brands. Moving into her teens, she then struggled with acne, sensitive and irritated skin and continued to struggle to find any treatments or products which would work for her. Deciding that she wanted to solve the problem herself, Marina began her journey of testing and researching ingredients and formulas, eventually perfecting the product which we have today. Once again, I’ve loved researching and sharing the fascinating stories behind some of my favourite products. Both Marissa and Marina are clearly passionate about their brands and work so hard to make them the very best they can be. Knowing the backstories makes using the products a much more meaningful experience too! By the way - we also have entries open for our 2022 Global Green Beauty Awards which celebrates the best in green and clean beauty brands. If your brand is organic, natural, ethical or zero waste - why not enter for a chance for showing off your green credentials! I’ll be back again soon looking at some more winners! I can’t wait! Thanks again for joining me! Ciao for now Hi everyone, First of all, a little reminder that the 2022 Global Green Beauty Awards are open and we are very excited to receive your entries! So please don’t miss out as these are great fun and a wonderful way to receive recognition for your hard work! Last year’s awards were fantastic with so many top-quality brands involved. All of them were really striving to be as green as possible and I loved learning about all the ways they were making a difference! Today I’d like to just briefly mention some of the winners for the 2021 Global Green Beauty Awards, their products and what they do to bring us green and clean products that we can trust! First of all we have Kear who took silver for BEST NATURAL BALM for their Natural Soothing body balm. Kear, or κέᾰρ®, means heart in ancient greek and that’s probably the best possible name for the brand as the brand proudly draws great inspiration from ancient greek skincare using classic natural ingredients and formulas. Heart also fits because it's clear how much passion the team has for the country of Greece, its rich culture, history and contribution to the world. Kear clearly love what they do and and have high expectations for their skincare products and the customer experience. Their natural balm is 100% natural, made from 5 ingredients and is not tested on animals. It contains a unique blend of arnica with extra virgin olive oil, natural beeswax and sweet almond oil, The end result is an analgesic body balm to calm even the most uptight body. It helps to heal bruises and warms stiff muscles and joints. Silver winner of BEST NATURAL MAKEUP PRODUCT was Jane Iredale with her PurePressed Base Mineral Foundation. 25 years ago Jane had a vision for clean, natural beauty; she was way ahead of her time and a real forerunner in the industry, largely responsible for inspiring a lot of brands which have come after but all these years of extra experience have honed the products into pure makeup products which are also good for our skin! Thank you Jane! This foundation is great for use alone or for pressing on top of a liquid foundation to reduce shine. Next we’ll take a quick look at BEST NATURAL SKINCARE PRODUCT Silver Winner which was ARgENTUM apothecary with their excellent La Lune De Velours. Founded by Joy Isaacs who grew up in South Africa and later moved to London where she started a family. After major surgery in 2010, Joy realised that colloidal silver spray, an ingredient her own mother had used on her scrapes when she was young, could provide extraordinary healing qualities. She had a dream and so began an amazing journey that included meeting some important people who would help her realise her ambition of putting out beauty products which she really believed in. A side note about this excellent cleanser - La Lune De Velours. It truly is a lovely shower must-have. The whole product exudes exclusivity and luxury from the moment you open the packaging. We love their signature black containers with no labels. This cleanser comes with a natural sea sponge and the cleanser is light, creamy and removes makeup easily. A beautiful treat and we would highly recommend it from ARgENTUM apothecary. It has an RRP of £98.00 so it is on the high end, but again, it is a truly delightful cleanser. And finally, there is BEST NATURAL DEODORANT Silver Winner Nurme Deo with their Mandarin Orange. With their name taken from the Estonian word for meadow, Nurme uses the beautiful feeling we get when we are surrounded by nature, spring air and flowers and puts it into their products. Preferring to use ingredients local and native to Estonia rather than some of the more exotic ingredients we see, Nurme provide clean beauty which is also environmentally friendly and aim to make us feel relaxed, content and energised! Their natural deodorant is in a cardboard container, has a lovely scent, and lasts all day. The essential oils contained in the deodorants have odor-neutralizing properties and, in addition, the baking soda in deodorants prevents the spread of odorous bacteria. So, that was just a very quick look at some of last year’s winners, all fantastic brands with fascinating stories behind their products! I’ll be back soon with a look at some more previous winners! Wishing you all a wonderful Christmas, and see you on 6th January for the opening of our Global Makeup Awards for UK, ASIA and USA. Peace and love Dom Merry Christmas to all our Global Makeup Awards and Global Green Beauty Awards friendsHi everybody,
Wow, winter has really hit today! Here in Northern Italy, we had blue skies and sunshine over the last week but today there is a strong icy wind! Luckily, most of us are at home as 8th December marks the Immaculate Conception so schools are closed and so are most workplaces! It's perfect for staying inside and reading or watching movies, but I can’t stand staying inside all day so after I finish this blog, me and my boys are going to put on our big coats and venture out for a little while! I’m not sure how long we’ll last though, I can hear the wind whistling through our house and the shutters banging away so it’s pretty uninviting out there! But, that's enough about the weather! What I’d really like to say is a big thank you to everyone who has joined me in these blogs over the last year. I’ve really enjoyed writing them and I especially like researching the different brands who have won at the Global Makeup Awards and getting a deeper understanding of what makes them tick! It’s wonderful to be in a business where so many of us are on the same wavelength and I love that we can do our part in helping brands small and large to get the recognition that they deserve! I would also like to take this opportunity to remind you all that the 2021 Scandinavia Global Makeup Awards will be announced on 20th December, that’s only 12 days away! If you haven’t read my previous posts where I talked about past winners from the 2020 Scandinavia Global Makeup Awards, I’d really love it if you took five minutes to do so. There are some really inspiring products and companies coming out of this category! 2022 is going to be a great and exciting year - on 6th January we open not just the UK global Makeup awards but also our awards for USA and ASIA. As with the Scandinavian awards, I recently blogged about past winners from the USA and ASIA awards and if you have a chance, please do take a look. I promised myself I’d move on from talking about the weather, but if it's as bad where you are as it is here then really it's a perfect day to catch up on some blogs! We’ve had a really busy year but we’ve had so much fun that it’s flown by! I’d also like to give a brief mention to the Global Green Beauty Awards, definitely my personal favourite! We had an amazing response to the awards and were so impressed at the quality of the entries as well the levels which companies are going to to help the environment! Honestly, things are progressing so quickly and the benchmark is getting pushed higher and higher! Anyway, that’s it from me for this year but I’ll be back in January with lots of exciting news, I’m looking forward to Christmas but can’t wait for 2022 too! Happy Christmas everybody Dan Are you ready for an incredible 2022 beauty awards?Hi everyone!
It's Dominique here - I know you are all looking forward to Danny's blogs but this is just a quick shout out about dates for 2022 and then it will be back to Danny's beauty awards blogs again! It's been another long and crazy year, and I think we're all feeling that this is how it's going to be for the foreseeable.... but I wanted to reach out to all our brands and readers and say thank you for what has been another incredible year. 2021 saw our biggest beauty awards year yet, with a massive 5 beauty awards completed. We saw the Global Makeup Awards for the UK, Asia, USA and now we are just closing up Scandinavia which will be announced on 20th December. We also saw in the Summer our biggest awards: The Global Green Beauty Awards. We have seen so much determination from all brands, big and small, to create, innovate and bring a smile to people's faces with new and incredible beauty launches. This also meant that we had an incredible 5 magazines launched in 2021 in our Global Makeup Magazine. It has been great seeing this magazine take off this last year, and promote brands in a bigger, more visual and shareable way. We hope the content has provided useful to all our beauty brands - and that all our beauty readers have loved finding more information on our favourite Gold, Silver and Bronze Winners. We can't wait for the magazine to continue next year. Next year, we will be squeezing our regional Global Makeup Awards together for Asia, UK and USA and they will all open on 6th January 2022. (The Scandi region will continue to be held at the end of the year). This year has been a bit different again for everyone, but I really truly hope and wish everyone an incredible Christmas this year and a strong, fit, healthy, happy and prosperous 2022. Please do also pop us a follow on instagram to keep up to date with all our awards dates throughout the year, and see some mentions of some of our favourite beauty brands. Hugs and love Dominique British winners from the 2021 Global Green Beauty Awards |
