Hi everyone! Phewww! It’s very, very hot! Too much for me to go out during the day. I've been heading down to the beach for a SUP and swim in the evening. I get 15 minutes of sun before it disappears behind a mountain at which point the beach completely empties and I have it all to myself! Wonderful! During the day I have my blinds down and my fans on, even my cats who are still only 2 years old and bundles of energy are spending their days relaxing in bushes or laying out on the tile floors. The basement is a little cooler so I might need to transfer my home office down there! Luckily, Italy is used to hot summers and the infrastructure to cope with the heat. I remember past summers in London which were unusually hot and the public transport was unbearable! Good luck to everyone who needs to get around for work! I’ve been making the most of my time inside and have written a few articles for the next Global Makeup Awards magazine which will be coming out on July 21 along with the announcement of winners from the 2022 Global Green Beauty Awards! We have had over 400 entries for these awards which really shows the commitment from the beauty industry towards environmentally friendly products and business practices! Speaking of which, look out for the articles in the magazine which cover waterless products and zero-waste practices. Previous winners at these immensely popular, and important, awards include:- BEST ZERO WASTE BEAUTY PRODUCT GOLD WINNER - Molton Brown Coastal Cypress & Sea Fennel Refillable Glass Bottle BEST 'GREEN' SHOWER PRODUCT GOLD WINNER - REN Skincare Atlantic Kelp and Magnesium Anti-Fatigue Body Wash BEST PLASTIC FREE BEAUTY PRODUCT GOLD WINNER FFS BEAUTY -Pink Clay Shampoo Bar Gold Winner BEST CLEAN BEAUTY PRODUCT GOLD WINNER - Orpheus Resurrection Bio-Luminous Dewy Essence and Three Warriors Face Tan Aqua Mist Molton Brown has an excellent reputation for top-quality products, service and customer satisfaction. It’s simply marvellous to see it continuing to innovate and to swiftly adapt to changing customer requirements. Their Gold in the Best No-waste Product category really demonstrates that they don’t rely on their reputation to sell products but are at the forefront of new practices. Meanwhile, REN SKINCARE took several awards including BEST 'GREEN' SHOWER PRODUCT GOLD WINNER for their Atlantic Kelp and Magnesium Anti-Fatigue Body Wash. Definitely look out for these guys at this year’s awards! Watch out for the full list of winners this Thursday! We can’t wait to show you all the new ideas and fantastic progress that has been made over the past 12 months. These awards are not only fun to do but also extremely rewarding. We love the friendly competition between top brands, all doing everything they can to provide eco-friendly products in the most sustainable way, without sacrificing quality. So, be sure to join us for the announcement of winners this Thursday! Its going to be huge! We can’t wait! Ciao for now! Dan

Hi everybody, It’s been hotter here in Northern Italy this month than in previous years. Usually, May is a little colder and rainier than I’m hoping as I eagerly and impatiently await the arrival of the summer! This year, though, I’ve been out paddleboarding and swimming in the lake nearly every evening. I have to admit that in the past, I only really thought about sun protection when I was at the beach but this year I’ve been much more conscientious about applying SPF to my face and neck, even if I’m just out and about for work or running errands! Choosing which SPF to use is not always easy, we want to make the right choice for our skin while still taking into account price, natural ingredients and how well it works! UpCircle Beauty only recently released their SPF 25 mineral sunscreen after a long period perfecting the formula, determined that it would be of the highest quality before hitting the market. Well, this hard work paid off because not long after its launch, they took Gold at the 2022 UK Global Makeup Awards for Best SPF Beauty Product. Not only that but on their website they also give some great advice on different types of SPF and how to choose one which suits you personally, some great info on using SPF during the winter months and some really interesting information regarding natural ingredients. Behind the scenes, Upcircle is a really fascinating company. Its team is clearly passionate about their work and the brand’s values. Those values include minimising waste and using inventive and ingenious ways to use existing materials and upcycle them rather than buying new and creating all the environmental problems that go with it. The company name is even inspired by the practice of upcycling! Another thing I really love about UpCircle is their transparency and courage regarding their stance on inclusivity and body positivity. They stand for natural beauty and prefer to use real customers, friends and families in their strictly unphotoshopped photos and advertising materials. A real breath of fresh air! Finally, and this is another aspect of the company that we really love and relate to, the brand was founded and is run by two siblings, Anna and Will. Anna is in charge of the business communications while Will is the expert in number-crunching. The pair, who started the company six years ago while in their early twenties, are both passionate about making ethical and environmentally-friendly products affordable and accessible by everyone and it's clear that the whole team shares their values. Clearly I’m not the only one who is impressed. UpCircle have received glowing reviews (sorry!) this week in The Independent for their SPF and in Cosmopolitan for their body scrub. Well, I could go on but maybe it's better if you check out their website where they happily share a lot more info about their team and their methods or read the recent reviews which I mentioned above. I also want to mention quickly that our 2022 Global Green Beauty awards have just 2 weeks left for entries. If your brand is organic / natural / vegan / zero waste / ethical - why not enter it in to this year's awards to see if it makes the cut as one of 2022's best green and clean beauty products. There are no launch date restrictions and is our biggest beauty awards of the year. That’s enough for me though, I’m going to SPF up and get back out on the lake for another paddle! Ciao for now Dan Hi everyone,
We have been so busy and excited recently since we announced the Winners of the UK 2022 Global Makeup Awards. We received over 250 entries into this year's UK 2022 Global Makeup Awards, there was fierce competition among the best brands in the industry. We were so impressed with the quality of the products which entered! The products were judged over a period of several months by our judges who eventually decided on the best beauty products for 2022 within the UK. There is a full winners list within Global Makeup Magazine on this website, but in today’s blog and in the next few blogs I’m going to take a closer look at the people behind some of the winning brands. Carter Beauty were Gold Winners in the Best Primer category for their wonderful Youth boost primer and serum. You probably already know about Marissa Carter, who is extremely popular on social media for her fantastic tutorials and the brave and honest way she shares all her challenges and successes with her followers. If you don’t yet know much about Marissa then I’ll just briefly outline her career! She has over 20 years’ experience in the beauty business and has a reputation for driving innovation, being behind nearly 150 make-up products, many of which are sold across the 1500 Walmart stores across the USA. The first Irish brand to reach this amazing achievement. Furthermore, her products are stocked in 23 countries, and sales average three bottles per minute. The great thing about Marissa’s social media pages is that we see directly the hard work and passion behind the scenes as well as the ups and downs! Sometimes we’ll see the glamorous side such as appearances at the Oscars and sometimes she’ll share her struggles and frustrations in a way that we can all relate to. Let’s take a look now at Gold Winner for Best Lash / Brow Product which went to Marina Miracle for their Eyelash & Brow Serum. Founded by Marina Elisabeth Engervik who aged just 4, ended up in hospital due to her eczema. If you’ve read my previous blogs then you’ll know that deeply personal experiences similar to this are often the catalysts behind the creation of the best brands. Moving into her teens, she then struggled with acne, sensitive and irritated skin and continued to struggle to find any treatments or products which would work for her. Deciding that she wanted to solve the problem herself, Marina began her journey of testing and researching ingredients and formulas, eventually perfecting the product which we have today. Once again, I’ve loved researching and sharing the fascinating stories behind some of my favourite products. Both Marissa and Marina are clearly passionate about their brands and work so hard to make them the very best they can be. Knowing the backstories makes using the products a much more meaningful experience too! By the way - we also have entries open for our 2022 Global Green Beauty Awards which celebrates the best in green and clean beauty brands. If your brand is organic, natural, ethical or zero waste - why not enter for a chance for showing off your green credentials! I’ll be back again soon looking at some more winners! I can’t wait! Thanks again for joining me! Ciao for now Merry Christmas to all our Global Makeup Awards and Global Green Beauty Awards friendsHi everybody,
Wow, winter has really hit today! Here in Northern Italy, we had blue skies and sunshine over the last week but today there is a strong icy wind! Luckily, most of us are at home as 8th December marks the Immaculate Conception so schools are closed and so are most workplaces! It's perfect for staying inside and reading or watching movies, but I can’t stand staying inside all day so after I finish this blog, me and my boys are going to put on our big coats and venture out for a little while! I’m not sure how long we’ll last though, I can hear the wind whistling through our house and the shutters banging away so it’s pretty uninviting out there! But, that's enough about the weather! What I’d really like to say is a big thank you to everyone who has joined me in these blogs over the last year. I’ve really enjoyed writing them and I especially like researching the different brands who have won at the Global Makeup Awards and getting a deeper understanding of what makes them tick! It’s wonderful to be in a business where so many of us are on the same wavelength and I love that we can do our part in helping brands small and large to get the recognition that they deserve! I would also like to take this opportunity to remind you all that the 2021 Scandinavia Global Makeup Awards will be announced on 20th December, that’s only 12 days away! If you haven’t read my previous posts where I talked about past winners from the 2020 Scandinavia Global Makeup Awards, I’d really love it if you took five minutes to do so. There are some really inspiring products and companies coming out of this category! 2022 is going to be a great and exciting year - on 6th January we open not just the UK global Makeup awards but also our awards for USA and ASIA. As with the Scandinavian awards, I recently blogged about past winners from the USA and ASIA awards and if you have a chance, please do take a look. I promised myself I’d move on from talking about the weather, but if it's as bad where you are as it is here then really it's a perfect day to catch up on some blogs! We’ve had a really busy year but we’ve had so much fun that it’s flown by! I’d also like to give a brief mention to the Global Green Beauty Awards, definitely my personal favourite! We had an amazing response to the awards and were so impressed at the quality of the entries as well the levels which companies are going to to help the environment! Honestly, things are progressing so quickly and the benchmark is getting pushed higher and higher! Anyway, that’s it from me for this year but I’ll be back in January with lots of exciting news, I’m looking forward to Christmas but can’t wait for 2022 too! Happy Christmas everybody Dan BEAUTY AWARDS DATES FOR 2022I can't believe it is only just September, and here we are announcing the dates for 2022! In this blog I would like to shine a Spotlight on 2020 Winners of the Global Green Beauty Awards. But, before I do. Here are some key dates for your diaries regarding this year’s awards! May 30th 2021 - Awards entries close The 2021 Global Green Beauty Awards are open, but i thought it would be nice if we look back at last year's winners. Some great ethical brands in a sea of quality competition all striving to be more green and clean in the beauty industry. Here are all the winners from last year. https://www.globalmakeupawards.com/2020-global-green-beauty-awards.html#/ Last year two amazing products shared the Gold Award for The Best Ethical Beauty Product . The first was Dr. PAWPAW for their Scrub and Nourish Lip Scrub and Lip Balm duo. This vegan product comes in beautiful and eye-catching packaging (100% recyclable with recycling instructions, naturally) and is multi-use as it can also be used on hands, heels and elsewhere to treat dry skin and flakey dry patches. Dr. PAWPAW’S story began in 2013 when married couple Johnnie and Pauline found out that their little girl was suffering from eczema. At this point, unable to find a cream without steroids to treat her, they decided to create alternative natural solution themselves. The team has a strong sense of values and all their products, which are stocked all over the world, are animal cruelty-free and certified by PETA. Dr. PAWPAW shared their award with Deardot, Yuja Cleansing Seal but we’ll talk more about their story another time because at this moment, I want to tell you about Nu Skin's new nutricentials range. Nu Skin’s Nutricentials® Bioadaptive Skin Care™ is an innovative range of skin care essentials produced from carefully selected ingredients and clean formulas which look after the your skin as well as our planet. The collection features products in such categories as: cleansers, toners, serums, moisturizers, exfoliators and masks with blends of bioadaptive botanicals that help skin adapt to its ever-changing environment. Nu-skin have shared a useful skincare routine, using Nutricentials. Follow this link for the full routine. Finally, I want to tell you about a cult classic, Liz Earle's hot polish cleanser (this renowned product won a gold in the 2020 Global Green Beauty Awards). This marvelous cleanser is made with cocoa butter which softens and moisturises, and also includes rosemary, chamomile and eucalyptus which help to purify and soothe skin. This cream not only cleanses and removes daily grime but can also be used on mascara. It is recommended to use the cream with a pure cotton cloth to exfoliate and reveal brighter, healthier skin. So there we have three wonderful products from brands that really do care about creating green products. Do check them out if you haven’t already! We’ll be back soon with another showcase of more winners from last year’s awards. All the best Dan and the rest of the Global Green Beauty Awards team

Just a quick update to all our blog followers that the 2020 Global Green Beauty Awards close today for entries, 5pm GMT 15th July 2020. You have just a couple of hours left to cast your brand's entry in to this years eco friendly beauty awards which looks to celebrate those green beauty products, vegan products and ethical beauty ranges. We have been absolutely flabbergasted with the amount of entries. As editor for the awards, I'm truly humbled to see so many brands, big and small, looking towards a more green ethos within the beauty companies. We have already had hundreds of brands enter into this years awards and we are hoping in the next few hours to see even more before the deadline rings in. Beauty companies have already led the way with the LGBQ community, and now they are leading the green revolution too. We have seen so many brands which use sustainable packaging and have removed virgin plastic from their packaging. Other's use zero waste packaging and have everything completely disposable, from packaging to its carton. Other brands look towards having greener ingredients, and have natural or organic (and sometimes both) within their ingredients list. We also have categories this year for those primal elements from nature which have huge benefits for the skin - shea, charcoal, aloe, honey to name just a few. We also have ethical categories - for those brands with a more ethical stand-point on beauty and perhaps look at sustainable farming, or how to give back to the farmers or the land / plants where the products have been made from. We also have categories for vegan and cruelty free, as many brands are now making sure this is a fundamental step within their product creation in order to maintain a more clean and animal friendly company. Our team is looking forward to judging the best of the best of these eco friendly beauty products with our green beauty awards. We are of course looking at products efficacy, but also the green and clean ethos around the beauty product and the beauty brands themselves. The gold, silver and bronze winners will be announced in our magazine Global Makeup Magazine which you can read on our website home page www.globalmakeupawards.com which is the umbrella company for the Global Green Beauty Awards 2020. The awards will be announced online on 10th August and we cannot wait to show you who this year's winners have been. There has been such a mix of brands, we know you will be delighted to see such a range and to discover the best of the new eco friendly products. Science Of Skin No 1 Is just one of these natural, cruelty free and vegan products developed to encourage treatment for scarring This July's hottest shower gels as tried and tested by the Global Makeup Awards and Global Green Beauty Awards teamDon't be caught out by July showers, indoors not outdoors! We’ve been having a great time testing shower gels and smelling really sweet. Shower gels are such a pleasure to use and can really awaken and revitalise your morning routine. When choosing a shower gel you've got to go for what is important for you. Maybe you struggle waking up in the morning - in which case choose a citrusy shower gel with zest to wake you up. If you suffer from dry and dull skin you will need a more performance related shower gel that will hydrate your skin and leave it smooth - perhaps with a light exfoliation to remove dead skin cells. Or maybe for you it's all about the materials - is it organic, ethical, natural, zero waste? (If the last things are important to you then you will love reading about our 2020 Global Green Beauty Awards winners which will be announced in our e-magazine Global Makeup Magazine on 10th August.) As shower gels cover such a huge range of personal choices whether though ingredients, strength or just personal taste, we thought we would touch on some of our July favourites from three well known brands, each with shower gels at a very similar price point, but all delivering something completely different. We tested The Organic Pharmacy Shower Gel with Lemon & Eucalyptus, REN Clean Skincare Atlantic Kelp and Magnesium antifatigue Body Wash and Guava and Gold Paradise Found Bath and Shower Gel. We’ve loved the healthy and refreshing fragrance when coming out of the shower after using The Organic Pharmacy’s Shower Gel with Lemon and Eucalyptus. You can buy it online for £25.95, in their shops (we love their flagship shop off Argyle Road near Oxford Street station, or even in Selfridges.) The eucalyptus in it has a really clean fragrance without being antiseptic. No sulphides in this product. Just the job to make you feel ready to face a Covid news week. We love the zesty scent which really awakens and refreshes in the morning. RENs Clean Skincare Atlantic Kelp and Magnesium Antifatigue Bodywash, which has a RRP of £22.00 is also sulphide free and is infused with a blend of Anti-fatigue Essential oils. What better way to face a busy day. What you may not have realised about this shower gel, is that is made from 100% recycled plastic, including using ocean plastic. If you are concerned about your plastic use, then this is a great green and clean brand to go for, as they are thinking ethically about their packaging and how they can re-use the plastic which is already out there. You can also enjoy its clean ingredients - Atlantic Kelp Extract is a source of essential minerals to nourish. Magnesium PCA helps moisturise the skin, it also contains Sage, Cypress, Geranium, Rosemary which provide a fresh, energising and uplifting scent. And finally. Guava and Gold Paradise Found Bath and Shower Gel which has a RRP of £20.00. This shower gel left our judges feeling completely pampered and moisturised. In fact it won Gold in the UK 2020 Global Makeup Awards.
Paraben free and phthalate free fragrance, this is very much a gel based on the seductive scents Of exotic fruits and flowers and infused with jasmine, tuberose and a base of amber and pink cedar. You of course can't miss the gorgeous packaging of this product and the gold shimmer that it leaves you. A truly indulgent shower gel, this makes for a great present, or you can just spoil yourself. So whatever takes your fancy from the range of products, you can see there is something perfect for everyone! |
