Hi everyone,
We have been so busy and excited recently since we announced the Winners of the UK 2022 Global Makeup Awards. We received over 250 entries into this year's UK 2022 Global Makeup Awards, there was fierce competition among the best brands in the industry. We were so impressed with the quality of the products which entered! The products were judged over a period of several months by our judges who eventually decided on the best beauty products for 2022 within the UK. There is a full winners list within Global Makeup Magazine on this website, but in today’s blog and in the next few blogs I’m going to take a closer look at the people behind some of the winning brands. Carter Beauty were Gold Winners in the Best Primer category for their wonderful Youth boost primer and serum. You probably already know about Marissa Carter, who is extremely popular on social media for her fantastic tutorials and the brave and honest way she shares all her challenges and successes with her followers. If you don’t yet know much about Marissa then I’ll just briefly outline her career! She has over 20 years’ experience in the beauty business and has a reputation for driving innovation, being behind nearly 150 make-up products, many of which are sold across the 1500 Walmart stores across the USA. The first Irish brand to reach this amazing achievement. Furthermore, her products are stocked in 23 countries, and sales average three bottles per minute. The great thing about Marissa’s social media pages is that we see directly the hard work and passion behind the scenes as well as the ups and downs! Sometimes we’ll see the glamorous side such as appearances at the Oscars and sometimes she’ll share her struggles and frustrations in a way that we can all relate to. Let’s take a look now at Gold Winner for Best Lash / Brow Product which went to Marina Miracle for their Eyelash & Brow Serum. Founded by Marina Elisabeth Engervik who aged just 4, ended up in hospital due to her eczema. If you’ve read my previous blogs then you’ll know that deeply personal experiences similar to this are often the catalysts behind the creation of the best brands. Moving into her teens, she then struggled with acne, sensitive and irritated skin and continued to struggle to find any treatments or products which would work for her. Deciding that she wanted to solve the problem herself, Marina began her journey of testing and researching ingredients and formulas, eventually perfecting the product which we have today. Once again, I’ve loved researching and sharing the fascinating stories behind some of my favourite products. Both Marissa and Marina are clearly passionate about their brands and work so hard to make them the very best they can be. Knowing the backstories makes using the products a much more meaningful experience too! By the way - we also have entries open for our 2022 Global Green Beauty Awards which celebrates the best in green and clean beauty brands. If your brand is organic, natural, ethical or zero waste - why not enter for a chance for showing off your green credentials! I’ll be back again soon looking at some more winners! I can’t wait! Thanks again for joining me! Ciao for now

Hi everybody,
How are you all? Has spring arrived for you? I don’t want to boast but it's lovely here (Lake Garda, Italy!) I look forward to spring so much and it really makes me happy when the weather gets warmer, the daffs appear and the blossom starts making its presence known! My neighbours are worried about the lack of rain in recent months and they say that we’ll probably pay for that with a wet summer but I’m feeling positive! It’s been a little while since my last post so I’m excited to bring you lots of big Global Makeup Awards news. First of all, I should let you know that entries have now closed at the 2022 Global Makeup Awards for the regions of the UK, USA and ASIA. We've seen a record number of brands enter, it’s so exciting to be working with familiar brands as well as new ones so that’s kept us busy over the winter! I have to say that there are really strong entries across the board - this year is going to be really tricky for the judges There are a lot of great benefits to winning these awards though, not only does it increase credibility and provide great recognition of your hard work but in addition there is exposure in our e-magazine, a beautifully printed certificate and an online winners logo that really catches the eye! It's exciting to see how the awards are now really global - we have our newest regions Asia and USA which are growing each year. Asia is now in its 2nd year and USA regions are now in their 3rd year. It's great to see our beauty awards expands through the different regions throughout the world. Last year was a huge year where I blogged about lots of different great winners - as you probably noticed, I love digging into the stories behind the brands. I want to know why they exist, who are the human’s behind the brands and what their motivations for starting their own business are. It quickly becomes apparent that financial reasons are not behind the companies’ formation but a genuine passion for quality beauty products and a huge sense of reward in helping others. It’s probably also apparent that I do have a strong sense of gratitude to the brands which work tirelessly to make their products ethically and I really appreciate the lengths they go to to use natural ingredients, avoid animal-testing and support local economies. The Scandinavian brands have really been forerunners when it comes to ethical-business practice but I’m delighted to see their techniques being replicated all over the world. You guys are all really making a difference and I think our industry is now one of the best there is and a model for other industries to follow. We’ve seen really dramatic changes to practices and expectations over the last decades! Anyway! I have a few more blogs planned over the coming weeks so I’ll be back very soon with more big news as well as some spotlights on some of my favourite recent winning brands! As ever, ciao for now! Dan Dan's must-haves of award winning S-Beauty BrandsHi again everyone,
Today I want to share some more information with you about last year’s winners at the Scandinavia Global Makeup Awards. Two of these brands are repeat winners while one is a brand new company that has made a huge impact on the industry! Let’s start with BEST ANTI AGEING PRODUCT GOLD WINNER which was Founders Formula with the their marvallous Australian Botanicals Pro-Aging Treatment Concentrate Serum Founder, Annie Holden launched the company last year after being inspired three years earlier after visiting the Cosmoprof beauty trade show in Bologna with her friend. Noticing that Australia was badly under-represented in the beauty world she made a decision to change that, especially as she knew that Australia’s plant-life is renowned for their active ingredients and their potential for skincare. BEST TONER GOLD WINNER was Bruns with their N°103b Green Mist Unscented. This Swedish company was initially created by Johanna as a hairdressing salon. Later, another experienced hairdressing professional Cecila bought into the company. The duo wanted to make safe, natural hairdressing products and avoid the chemicals and their effects which they’d seen too much of over their careers. Their objective was to make hair products that were free of harmful chemicals and with help from Johanna’s 75 year-old father Per, an expert in the composition of raw materials, they created their first products Then, we have Eleni & Chris who were BEST CONDITIONER GOLD WINNER with their CurliMin Defining Conditioner. This brand is the result of a mother-daughter collaboration and despite having very different approaches, Inger Ellen and Christinah Nicolaisen share a strong drive to create the best products possible, taking great inspiration from the Scandinavian roots. Whilst they differ in their background and approach, Inger Ellen and Christinah share an extraordinary level of drive, passion and creativity, rooted in and inspired by their Scandinavian home. The partnership of these women is founded in mutual respect of the strengths that they each bring to the creation of beauty products embodied by their unique spirit. The brand began in 2015 when the pair made the decision to use local ingredients, particularly berries to create a range of products. I have visited Scandinavia several times and I love how passionate the inhabitants are about their berries. Cloudberries in particular are particularly precious, almost impossible to find outside of Scandinavia and difficult to find even there. However, research and laboratory analysis showed that the cloudberry is full of vitamins as well as calcium and magnesium. This is a truly unique product and a wonderful example of Scandinavian Ingredients. Thanks again for joining me as I learn more about the people and the stories behind last year’s winners. Each company has their own unique raison-d'etre yet we all share common ground with our love for good-quality beauty products. That’s one of the things that makes running these awards so rewarding and fun! We cannot wait for the 2022 Scandinavia Global Makeup Awards, we just know that its going to be even bigger and better than previous years! I’ll be back soon! Ciao for now! Dan Hi again everyone!
Yikes, January is already over! That was quick!!! I am enjoying watching the evenings gradually get lighter though! As much as I am always disappointed when, after all the build-up and excitement, Christmas is over, I can’t wait for spring and summer to arrive! Big News! The 2022 Scandinavia Global Makeup Awards have been announced! We are receiving entries from new brands who haven’t entered before and, as always, we are so excited to assess the increasingly impressive products which enter. We also have sent our their gorgeous winner's trophy - the pespex looks so great sitting on glass to promote your win to your customers and clients. Today I’d like to remind you about some of the 2021 Scandinavia Global Makeup Awards winners! Let’s start with BEST CLEANSER GOLD WINNER, Dr.Ankerstjerne with their WASH The Day Off facial cleanser. On their website, the company leads with the following line “ Developed by Norwegian doctors for Scandinavian conditions”. I love this as I think it beautifully and succinctly represents the brand while also reinforcing trust in the quality and research behind the cleanser! Additionally, it’s reassuring to know that skincare products which are designed to work in the cold scandinavian winters will also work for our team members based in London and Northern italy! Founders Stine and Andre Ankerstjerne prefer to run a small line of products and to concentrate on making them as effective as possible. The couple spent five years conducting research and performing testing before launching the brand in 2018. Meanwhile, BEST MOISTURISER SILVER WINNER was Transderma M for their Moisture Serum. Having spent over 30 years researching natural antioxidants and vitamins, Dr. Alvin Ronlán applied his wealth of knowledge and expertise to create the vitamin skin serums which make this Swedish brand one of the best products on the market. One of the main objectives for Transderma M is to support long-term healthy skin. Recognising that as we age, the vitamins that reach our skin via the food we eat gradually reduce, this company aims to provide a targeted approach, directly applying vitamins to skin cells to provide a revitalised and healthy look. The Gold Winner for BEST HAIR PRODUCT went to Owow Kit - which also happens to be 30% off in their January sale! Founder, Georgiana Grudinschi believes that the key to looking good lies in products which are simple, convenient, healthy and ethical. In her story she explains how she used to love getting conventional chemical treatments on her hair but began searching for a more affordable alternative! Through her research, she discovered how damaging some of those treatments she had been using could be for her health and became determined to create a solution that would give great results but not at a price to her health or indeed to the health of the planet. OK! That’s just a quick look at three marvellous brands which I urge you to check out! Also, don’t forget that the UK, ASIA and USA Global Makeup Awards for 2022 went live earlier this month and there is still time to enter! I’ll be back very soon with a look at some more success stories from the 2021 Scandinavian Global Makeup Awards. Until then, ciao for now! Dan How to Find the Best Black Friday Deals - everything Beauty!Hi everybody! Today’s blog is going to be a little different to ones I’ve posted recently where I’ve written about past winners of the Global MakeUp Awards, their stories and their goals for the future. With the famous (or infamous!) Black Friday approaching, some of us will have possibly delayed buying products which we have wanted in hope of getting a good discount among the Black Friday sales - and we have especially had our eyes on everything beauty! Certainly the news has focused in recent years on the negative sides of the sales, concentrating on arguments over widescreen TVs and impossibly long queues but that is probably misrepresentative of the bigger picture. Anyway, today let’s bounce around some ideas on how to make the most of the sales! Now, the first piece of advice that I can give is to start looking for bargains now. Not only do lots of companies start their sales early (this can get them extra sales and spread out their extra work load) but it also gives us a chance to check pre-sales prices and see if the deals are really as good as they look! We all know that artificially inflating prices then advertising a massive discount is one of the oldest tricks in the book so make sure to check prices across different retailers! Another good reason to start your search is now that there is a lower chance of the product you want being sold out! These sales are a good way for us to get our Christmas Shopping done without having to brave the packed high streets on Christmas Eve! I’ve been there and it’s all a bit much! So, if we know any little people who might appreciate a toy or two under the Christmas Tree, we could also consider getting their gifts during the Black Friday sales. Children’s toys are notoriously expensive so a little planning might well save us a fair amount of money! If you are having trouble choosing what toys to buy, you’ll find that there are a lot of websites that offer up to date advice on toys for children of all different age groups. Simply searching Google for Best Christmas presents for a ten year old will give you some great inspiration. I’ve just checked and there are lots of things my kids would absolutely love! However, most of them are linked to Amazon via affiliate links so you may not find Black Friday Deals this way! But many products on Amazon are sold via small independent shops which you can search for directly. You may well find them at a better price this way and they could be advertising Black Friday deals for direct sales! This also avoids putting more money in billionaires pockets! If you are looking for a present for a loved one, here at Global Makeup Awards we recommend the L’Occitane reusable calendar. This is a wonderful green alternative to regular calendars. Check it out here! It is an amazing beauty buy and perfect for a gift for any woman in your life - mum, sister, girlfriend or wife. Not only is it filled with amazing beauty products but you can also year after year and put your own treats in it. It comes in at a hefty £160 (worth £236) but it contains 24 amazing beauty gifts. It includes all of the following: This L'occitane 2021 Christmas advent calendar contains: • 75ml Almond Shower Oil • 5ml Herbae par L'OCCITANE Eau de Parfum • 50ml Shea Intensive Hand Balm Travel Size • 70ml Verbena Shower Gel • 30ml Shea Butter Hand Cream • 15ml Almond Supple Skin Oil • 75ml Intensive Repair Conditioner • 15g Almond Crunchy Muesli Scrub • 2.8g Sunday Pinknic Intense Fruity Lipstick • 100ml Lavender Foaming Bath • 15ml Relaxing Pillow Mist • 50ml Almond Milk Concentrate • 12ml Shea Ultra Rich Lip Balm Certified Organic • 8ml Divine Cream • 10ml Verbena Eau de Toilette • 7.5ml Néroli & Orchidée Eau de Toilette • 75ml Intensive Repair Shampoo • 30ml 30ml Oil-To-Milk Facial Make-up Remover • 30ml Almond Delicious Hands • 30ml Immortelle Essential Water • 8ml Precious Cream • 30ml Shea Butter Foot Cream • 5ml Overnight Reset Serum • The Petit Remedy. We personally already love the Relaxing Pillow Mist and the Shea Intensive Hand Balm. We love how it is also a complete range of products, from lipsticks, to shampoo to hand-cream to foot-cream. So you won't be ending up with duplicates of the same 'type' of product. This truly is the best Christmas gift for any beauty lover with all these must-have products. Wow, I’m out of time again! Already! Well, all the best with your deal hunting! Do let me know how you get on and share any bargains you find! Ciao for now Dan Sweden Eco, Marina Miracle, Esse Skincare - Scandi Skincare heavyweights Hi again everybody!
In my last blog I took a deeper look into the stories behind some of the winning brands at the 2021 USA Global Makeup Awards. It’s really interesting how different companies have their own different approaches to their companies and their products. Speaking of which, Scandinavian companies often seem to share similar values and approaches and the 2021 Scandinavian Global Makeup Awards are now open for entries. These will be our last awards of 2021 and we are always very excited about them as Scandinavia is a heavyweight in the beauty world with its multifunctional products which usually have very trendy packaging and favour a minimalistic design. They also tend to use high quality, locally sourced natural ingredients. October 1st 2021 - Awards open for entries November 25th 2021 - Awards entries close December 20th 2021 - Winners Announced Online Let’s now take a closer look at some of the winners from last year’s 2020 Scandinavian Global Makeup Awards We’ll begin with the BEST CLEANSER GOLD WINNER which was Marina Miracle with their Flower Berry Essence Sweet & Creamy Oil Cleanser Marina Miracle was founded by Marina Elisabeth Engervik who had first-hand experience of skin problems and the challenge of finding suitable treatments as she was born with atopic eczema and it was so bad that aged just 4 she ended up in hospital. As she grew up she continued to struggle with acne, sensitive and irritated skin but was unable to find any treatments that would keep her skin healthily balanced! Determined to find a solution that would work for her and others she committed to research and scientific studies until she was ready to make her own formulas. Initially, the new products worked wonders on her own skin and then for friends and family. Soon word got round and a wonderful new business was born! Now let’s look at Esse Skincare who were our BEST ANTI AGEING PRODUCT GOLD WINNER with their Resurrect Serum. Their founder, Trevor Steyn comes from a scientific background, having studied organic chemistry which then led to a particular interest in Africa’s plants and their potential for skin care. He began his research into Kigelia africana, the African Sausage tree, spending two years formulating his products in preparation for launching Esse two years later. HIs goal for the company is to play a role in “creating a beautiful, indefinitely sustainable future,” Finally, we have BEST BATH / SHOWER PRODUCT GOLD WINNER - Sweden Eco with their Shampoo for hair and body Sweden Eco by Rosenserien is sold across 150 Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark and Serbia. The brand was founded 40 years ago when founder, Laine Nilsson, became aware that the products she was using in her job at a hairdressing salon were negatively affecting her skin. Once she identified the cause of the irritation, she began to examine the ingredients of the products and soon identified her mission as to provide clean and toxin-free skincare to people. Her daughter,Carina Swartz now runs the company! So there we have three wonderful Scandinavian brands who were successful at least year’s Scandinavian Global Makeup Awards. Thanks for joining me for a closer look at their stories, I’ll be back soon! Ciao for now! Dan Graydon Skincare, The Humble Co. and Juice Beauty - winners in the 2021 Global Green Beauty Awards with their incredible bamboo productsHi again everyone! I hope you are good and September is going well! Personally, I’m always a bit sad about the end of summer but sometimes September can be a really great month with good weather and smaller crowds! Here in Italy the weather has been really good and it's still warm enough to eat outside yet cool enough to sleep at night. Thank goodness! In the last blog we explored the stories behind some of the winners from the last Global Green Beauty Awards, specifically those with hemp as an ingredient! In today’s blog I want to take a better look at the winners of the Best Bamboo Product category, a new category within our Green Beauty Awards. Let’s begin with the Gold Winner which was Graydon Skincare with their Bamboo Charcoal Konjac Sponge. This product is 100% vegan and 100% biodegradable. It becomes jelly like when wet, but when dry, it shrinks in size ready for the next use. Made with 100% biodegradable konjac plant fiber and bamboo charcoal, this sponge is the ultimate tool to detoxify pores, smooth your skin and thoroughly cleanse your face. This product was a truly brilliant entry in the 2021 Global Green Beauty Awards and was a well deserved winner. Bamboo is one of those miracle ingredients which can be used so many ways in the beauty industry. This Canadian company has been going for about nine years and founder Graydon Moffat featured last month on City TV Breakfast television (see here). Interviewed in her immaculate kitchen, Graydon explained how her previous experience as a yoga instructor and a vegan chef as well as her holistic approach feeds into her philosophy behind her skincare business. During the TV interview Graydon explains that her mission is to give people the chance to have a good skin day every day through products with simple, natural ingredients and to play a part in people all over the world feeling good about themselves! I love how simply and sincerely she states that and it’s clear that she loves her work! Additionally, the website proudly declares their ingredients to be dermatologist and clinically tested, hypoallergenic, non-irritating, vegan as well as cruelty-free. Silver winner was The Humble Co. for their Interdental Brush / Bamboo. Established in 2013 by dentist Noel Abdayem and based in Sweden they follow the typical Scandinavian model which loves simplicity and efficiency. Inspired by a trip to Jamaica where he did voluntary work, Noah returned and set up the company which boasts products in over 40,000 stores and clinics worldwide. It’s not surprising that they are so popular as the oceans are filled with old plastic toothbrushes (every single year we go through 10 billion plastical oral care products). It's clear that there is not only a demand but an absolute necessity for The Humble Co. to continue with its fight to give us high quality oral care in an environmentally friendly way! Bronze winner was the super Juice Beauty for their Bamboo Pore Refining Mask. We loved this mask as it keeps help spots at bay. It contains bamboo charcoal & kaolin clay to help detox; Aspen bark to help smooth & hydrate, and exfoliating polyhydroxy acids for a softer, smoother complexion. Founder Karen Behnke already had a wealth of experience as an entrepreneur in the wellness industry but her pregnancy at 40 and the changes in her hormonal balance inspired her to develop a skincare product which would work for others like her who are concerned that our skin absorbs the products we use on it and wanted effective solutions which were not harmful to the body or the environment. Her goal was not just to provide products that were as good as conventional options, but actually better. Consequently she spent five years working with scientists to explore complex organic formulations. Juice Beauty was founded in 2005 and is Vegan, Cruelty Free, Sustainable and they use Certified Organic Ingredients. So, thanks for joining me for a closer look at the newest category for our 2021 Green Beauty Awards and at this year’s winners! I’ll be back soon to delve deeper into the stories behind more of our winners. Ciao for now! In this blog I would like to shine a Spotlight on 2020 Winners of the Global Green Beauty Awards. But, before I do. Here are some key dates for your diaries regarding this year’s awards! May 30th 2021 - Awards entries close The 2021 Global Green Beauty Awards are open, but i thought it would be nice if we look back at last year's winners. Some great ethical brands in a sea of quality competition all striving to be more green and clean in the beauty industry. Here are all the winners from last year. https://www.globalmakeupawards.com/2020-global-green-beauty-awards.html#/ Last year two amazing products shared the Gold Award for The Best Ethical Beauty Product . The first was Dr. PAWPAW for their Scrub and Nourish Lip Scrub and Lip Balm duo. This vegan product comes in beautiful and eye-catching packaging (100% recyclable with recycling instructions, naturally) and is multi-use as it can also be used on hands, heels and elsewhere to treat dry skin and flakey dry patches. Dr. PAWPAW’S story began in 2013 when married couple Johnnie and Pauline found out that their little girl was suffering from eczema. At this point, unable to find a cream without steroids to treat her, they decided to create alternative natural solution themselves. The team has a strong sense of values and all their products, which are stocked all over the world, are animal cruelty-free and certified by PETA. Dr. PAWPAW shared their award with Deardot, Yuja Cleansing Seal but we’ll talk more about their story another time because at this moment, I want to tell you about Nu Skin's new nutricentials range. Nu Skin’s Nutricentials® Bioadaptive Skin Care™ is an innovative range of skin care essentials produced from carefully selected ingredients and clean formulas which look after the your skin as well as our planet. The collection features products in such categories as: cleansers, toners, serums, moisturizers, exfoliators and masks with blends of bioadaptive botanicals that help skin adapt to its ever-changing environment. Nu-skin have shared a useful skincare routine, using Nutricentials. Follow this link for the full routine. Finally, I want to tell you about a cult classic, Liz Earle's hot polish cleanser (this renowned product won a gold in the 2020 Global Green Beauty Awards). This marvelous cleanser is made with cocoa butter which softens and moisturises, and also includes rosemary, chamomile and eucalyptus which help to purify and soothe skin. This cream not only cleanses and removes daily grime but can also be used on mascara. It is recommended to use the cream with a pure cotton cloth to exfoliate and reveal brighter, healthier skin. So there we have three wonderful products from brands that really do care about creating green products. Do check them out if you haven’t already! We’ll be back soon with another showcase of more winners from last year’s awards. All the best Dan and the rest of the Global Green Beauty Awards team |
