Nu Skin, Vintage Beauty and Chitocare Beauty - a look into some winners from Scandinavia 2022 Global Makeup AwardsHi everyone! We have a busy year planned here I have lots to write about and I really want to talk a little more about the 2022 Scandinavia Global Makeup Awards before we move on to our next adventure! So, last week I wrote about some of the winners from the 2022 Scandinavia Global Makeup Awards which we announced before Christmas but just before I signed off I promised that today I would write a blog which focuses on the haircare gold winners. Let’s begin by looking at the Gold Winner for Best Shampoo which was Nu Skin and their Smoothing Shampoo. The Smoothing Shampoo helps detangle and smooth frizzy hair for a sleek, flawless finish. Its carefully selected blend of mild plant-based surfactants gently removes buildup leaving your hair delightfully clean. They are also conscious with their packaging. All their shampoo and conditioner bottles are made with 100% post-consumer resin (PCR) and caps with recyclable materials. Nu Skin have a great track record at the Global Makeup Awards and I’ve written about them extensively in previous blogs so I won’t repeat myself here but it’s safe to say that they continue to hold their position as a major brand in the hair and beauty industry. So, let’s move on to the Best Conditioner category! This year the gold went to Vintage Beauty for their Vital Dream Deep Care Conditioner with Karanja Oil. It is 100% vegan, not tested on animals, it is also GMO and paraben free. It has a pleasant and refreshing orange scent and leaves hair feeling cleansed and deliciously scented. I wrote briefly about the Vintage Beauty Brand when we first announced the winners last month as they have such an interesting and inspiring story as well as an excellent range of anti ageing products. Have you tried their Day and Night Firming Eye Contour set (a Golf Winner in the 2022 UK Global Makeup Awards) as it provides anti wrinkle effects in just minutes. I’m eager to write more about them but there just isn’t space today. If you happen to have time, I do recommend checking out their website where they proudly describe their journey! So now let’s move on to the gold winner for Best Bath / Shower Product which went to ChitoCare for their Beauty Shower Gel. Formed in 1999 in Iceland, all Chitocare products are produced in Siglufjörður by Primex Iceland. They clearly have a strong ethos and are extremely innovative, often using raw materials that were previously considered waste while always following science and maintaining a strong respect for nature. Sigríður Vigfúsdóttir, founder of ChitoCare, was recently interviewed for the mbl.is website where she proudly spoke about the Gold win at the Scandinavian Global Beauty Awards! She said "This is a great recognition for this newest product in our ChitoCare Beauty product line". She added "This is a bioactive shower soap loaded with natural ingredients that cleanse, refresh and rejuvenate the skin. It contains antioxidants and a combination of active ingredients from the sea and Icelandic geothermal water, which protect the skin. But the shower gel contains precisely the patented ChitoCare chitosan that we produce ourselves and geothermal silica from GeoSilica." The Gold award for Best Hair Masque / Treatment went to Eleni and Chris for their Scandimin The Blonde Hair Mask, This scandinavian mother and daughter team was founded in 2015 and have gone on to become one of the most exciting brands in the industry! This is another story I’m keen to write about in more depth in the near future! There just isn't space to do them justice in today’s blog but they are deserved winners of their gold! In fact, I’ve already gone over my word limit! I’ll love you and leave you now but don’t worry, I’ll be back again soon with another blog! Ciao for now! Dan

UK 2023 Global Makeup Awards open 6th JanuaryHi everybody and Happy New Year to you all!
I’m back in Italy now but I had a really great Christmas in the UK and it was so good to see my family and also pop in and visit the rest of the Global Makeup Awards team. We ate, we laughed and we just enjoyed spending time together. It didn’t matter that the weather was foul or that we all seemed to pick up the flu, it was still a wonderful week! Anyway, before Christmas we announced the Scandinavia Global Makeup Award Winners from the 2022 Scandinavia Global Makeup Awards and I gave a quick lowdown on a few of the brands who took gold. Today, I’m going to do the same. I’ll save in-depth blogs for another day but right now we’ll just take a flying look at who won in some makeup categories and in a few cases check out some interesting stories behind their products. First of all, the gold winner for Best Primer went to INIKA Organic for their marvellous Radiant Glow Veil. This brand was originally founded in Australia in 2006 and has gone on to huge global success, including major features in Vogue and Grazia. It comes as no surprise that they have been so warmly embraced in Scandinavia since they clearly share a lot of similar values regarding clean, toxin-free ingredients, sustainable business ethos and cruelty-free certifications. In fact, their current mission is to achieve pure plastic neutrality; hopefully this inventiveness and positive mindset will catch on! Let’s look now at the gold winner for Best Foundation which was Lavinde Copenhagen and their NATURAL GLOW Liquid Foundation Cool Ivory 201 30 ml. This Danish brand was founded with the purpose of creating hypoallergenic skincare products and cosmetics free from parabens and perfumes. They especially enjoy creating products for pregnant women or breast-feeding mothers as well as anyone who wants to take good care of their body and avoid toxins. Best Eye Product was a particularly competitive category but Purodoré Natural Skincare managed to take the gold with their Ceramide & Gold Firming Eye Cream. This independent, family-owned Finnish brand aims to create products which are both luxurious and sustainable. I’m quickly running out of space so I’ll just list a few other gold winners below! Best Eyebrow Product Alba Beauty Golden Bombshell Eyebrow Gel, Best Eye Shadow Alba Beauty mr mermaid Mineral EyeShadow, Best Bronzer / Illuminator Ecotan Coral Bronzer Best Mascara Alba Beauty Just Browsing False Lash Mascara, Best Lip Balm Marina Miracle One & Only Lip Balm Best Lip Product Eco by Sonya Driver Lipstick Miami Rose In my next blog I will focus more on some of the haircare winners from the Scandinavia Global Makeup Award Winners. In the meantime, thanks for joining me for a little look at some of the makeup winners, I’m looking forward to going into a bit more depth over the coming months! Until then, have a great day and a wonderful 2023! Ciao for now Dan
Hi everyone!
It’s been a really busy period for us but working on the 2022 Scandinavia Global Makeup Awards has been so much fun and we’re so excited to announce the winners! It's snowing in London today, and it feels so appropriate to announce our Nordic awards with the views outside looking reminiscent of Scandi fjords. The full list of winners is published in our free Global Makeup Magazine (just click the photo above to open in full size)but today let’s take a quick look at some of the skincare gold winners! I’ve written about Icelandic brand Taramar in a previous blog so I won’t repeat myself here but it’s great to see this fantastic (and relatively new) brand continue to go from strength to strength, winning Gold for Best Moisturizer with their Taramar Hydration Treatment. Another winner is one of my favourites, the Estonian brand Nurme. Using natural products, they also use beautiful packaging and are deserved Gold winners in our Best Night Cream category for their NURME Collagen renewal Night cream 50ml. Let’s now look at the Gold Winner for Best Cleanser - AiiA Cleanser. This fantastic Danish brand was founded by an inspirational lady named Trine. Her story is so interesting though, that I wouldn’t do justice to it if I tried to tell it now but I’d love to dedicate a whole blog to it in the near future! Taramar - The Gold for Best Serum went to Taramar for their Arctic Flower Treatment. Taramar has a long history of success at the Global Makeup Awards and this year was no exception as they continue to bring their unique method to the beauty industry. They are another brand which I have covered in greater depth during previous blogs so I’ll just give a quick synopsis of them here. Proudly Icelandic, all of their products are designed around isolated natural compounds found in their local seaweed and kelp. Really unique and interesting stuff! Let’s look now at Gold winner for Best (Face) Mask -which was Purodoré with their Natural Skincare Regenerating Sleep Mask. This family-owned, Finnish brand also proudly uses local ingredients in many of their products! Amazingly (and coincidentally) , that ingredient is gold, but not just any gold! Previously, I had no idea that the planet's purest gold was found in Finland! There’s one for your family Christmas quizzes!!! In fact, the name Purodore translates into English as Gold Stream, inspired by the beautiful, clear rivers found in Lapland. Finally, for today’s blog, let’s look at who took Gold for Best Anti Ageing Product which was Vintage Beauty and their Volume Serum 40+. This family business comes to us from the suburbs of Rotterdam via Budapest. The Szakonyi family consists of two successful entrepreneurs and 4 naughty children and have a fascinating story behind their wonderful brand. I wouldn’t do it justice to try and squeeze it all in now, it's definitely deserving of its own blog in the near future! I can’t wait to do it! So, there we have just a very quick snapshot of some of the wonderful winners at the 2022 Scandinavia Global Makeup Awards. Working on these awards has been really fun and rewarding! Thank you so much to all the participants for once again pushing the benchmark higher! We’re so happy to recognise your hard work! I’ll be back soon but until then, ciao for now! Dan I love all things Scandinavia - S beauty, the countries , the expos the Hygge!Hi everyone,
How are you enjoying the recent transition of the seasons! As I write this on Sunday morning I’m thinking about going out for a hike in the mountains later. I love the clean air, being in the middle of nature, and the view from the top of the mountain. One side looks out across the lake and today the air is very clear so we should be able to see for miles. The other side looks out across untouched forest, a completely different world. But first, I have some important information!!! Entries close for the Scandinavia Global Makeup Awards on Monday 7th November so you don’t have much time to get your entries in. I really love Scandinavia and I also really love their beauty brands. Actually, I think I love the countries and the brands for the same reasons I love walking in the mountains. The appreciation of nature, the clean air, the connection to the planet. I’m always impressed at how Scandinavian brands seem to be ahead of the game when it comes to green beauty and business responsibility so these awards are fantastic to be a part of. The standards of all the brands are so high, I honestly feel that Scandinavia is right at the forefront of beauty innovation and an example of how brands should be run. Last year’s awards were so exciting to be a part of. We celebrated success with some of the area’s top brands including Dr.Ankerstjerne, White Lotus, Glam of Sweden, Rosenserien, Henrik Vibskov, Haan, Humderkin as well as many others. Just writing about last year’s events is making me excited about my next Trip to Finland in May. Last time I went I was amazed by the hospitality of the locals and the beauty of the area. I enjoyed authentic sauna’s, camping in the forest, great food and some of the cleanest air you can breathe. If you haven’t visited yet, I can’t recommend it enough. Actually, there are also some excellent Beauty expos coming up, beginning in Sweden with Eco Life Scandinavia Malmö 16. - 17. November 2022 | The leading sustainable living trade fair in Scandinavia. This event is specifically for vegan and free-from products, an area which many of last year’s winners have a great deal of expertise in. Then, in March 2023 there is the Hair and Beauty Finland Expo (18.-19.03.2022) which will take place in Helsinki. Those are just some ideas for those of you who may be interested in a trip to the homelands of some of the best beauty products on the market. More pressingly though, is the deadline for the 2022 Scandinavia Global Makeup Awards which is tomorrow! So if your brand is based in Scandinavia or connected to the area don’t hesitate to get involved so that all your hard work can be recognised. I’ll sign off here and start making some sandwiches for my hike but I’ll be back again very soon! Ciao for now Dan Calling all Scandi brands - it's your last chance to enter our last beauty awards of the year! It's your last chance to enter!

The 2022 Scandinavia Global Makeup Awards have opened for entries!Hello Everyone!
So sorry it's been a while. It's Dominique the Editor of the Global Makeup Awards here. Don't worry - Danny will soon be back to giving you his reviews of some of the amazing entries we had in the 2022 Global Green Beauty Awards. I just wanted to pop on here for our followers to wish you a happy Autumn. After a month off (after a very busy year with the Global Green Beauty Awards and our Global Makeup Awards for the Uk, ASIA and USA, I'm delighted to be back at the computer to bring to you our last awards of the year - our 2022 Scandinavia Global Makeup Awards. The 2022 Scandinavia Awards are held in Autumn / Winter for our Scandi friends, as they symbolise all things Hygge - crunchy leaves, the wild, fresh air, pure and natural ingredients, cozy firesides. The awards for this region are now in their fourth year and it's been so great growing over the years and watching to see how the Scandi brands have been changing and adapting and also their response with COVID in 2020 and 2021. Self care and looking after ones inner wellbeing has always been central to Scandinavian way of life. The winters are long and hard, and sometimes, to pull you through the long winter, you do just need a little bit of self care, a nice long bath, a skin care regime then some cozy pyjamas in a warm living room - maybe with a favourite book....or who are we kidding a bit of celebrity junk TV! So - to all our Nordic friends - please be aware of the short entry dates this year - it is all being squeezed in so you can celebrate your win by Christmas. Dates are here. For everyone else waiting on the UK, ASIA and USA GMA awards, as well as our 2023 Global Green Beauty Awards - these dates will be announced in December. Wishing you a lovely Autumn and I hope you get to have a bit of a slower pace now the year is winding to an end. Hugs Dom xx Hi everyone,
I’m just back from my trip to the UK and already suffering in the Italian heat! The good news is that last night I bought some mosquito screens for my windows so I can sleep with some fresh air and not wake up covered in bites! The weather was very pleasant in the UK and I slept really well! I’ve just heard that they are having another heat wave but I couldn’t have been happier with how the trip went! I had a great time in London. Not only was it wonderful to see my family and my GMA friends but I managed to sneak in a couple of concerts too and even a musical in the West End! Anyway! Today I would like to tell you a little more about some of my favourite winners from the 2022 USA Global Makeup Awards. First of all we have Juice Beauty who went home with the Gold Award for Best Primer With their Illuminating Primer. Let’s take a deeper look into Juice Beauty’s beginnings and goals! Juice Beauty was founded by serial entrepreneur Karen Behnke who, after falling pregnant and taking extra care about the ingredients in the wellness and skincare products she was buying, wanted to make sure she used only organic products that couldn’t potentially damage her or her baby. She has been passionate about environmentalism since she was a teenager in Michigan and her lifelong passion for wellness stems from this period when she battled a rare blood disorder. With Juice Beauty, Karen wanted to create the kind of product which she had been desperately searching for herself! Her goal was to create luxurious and organic products which worked better than their conventional counterparts which were almost always filled with chemicals. In 2005 she started the company and spent 5 years working with top scientists to solve complex formulation challenges. Her products have been thoroughly tested and she can take great pride in achieving and surpassing the high standards she set for Juice Beauty! Another of my favourite winners from the USA Global Makeup Awards is NeoNaturelle who won Best Serum for their C-Major Vitamin C Serum 23%. Neonaturelle are committed to honouring their principles and lay them out clearly. The first is that they care a great deal about their customers and also the world which we share. They have made the decision to only use recyclable packaging, to avoid plastic and encourage customers to reuse the glass jars that their serum comes in. They are also dedicated to continuous innovation and treat each new formula with care and respect while ensuring that they are safe and effective. Neonaturelle are based in Richmond, British Columbia and have a wonderful blog which goes into great depth regarding information on organic ingredients and advice for vegans who are concerned about ethical options and ingredients to avoid! Thanks again for joining me while I took a look at the background behind these worthy winners. I hope you’ve enjoyed learning about them as much as I have! I’ll be back soon! Ciao for now! Dan Hi everybody!
I hope you’re all good! After tidying my garden, I then realised I had a lot of washing to sort out before my trip to the UK. Neverending washing! The good thing about this heat is that it dries super quick though. This heat wave reminds me of the great times I’ve had visiting Asia, where I was unprepared for the humidity and the monsoons that seemed to come out of nowhere and disappear just as quickly! In my last blog I promised that today I would write about some of my favourite winning brands from the 2022 ASIA Global Makeup Awards and I am a man of my word! I’d like to begin with the Best ASIA Beauty Brand Gold Winner which was Nature Tree. Founded in 1981, this Taiwan brand has developed and manufactured raw liquids to supply professional skin care salons for over 40 years, and is known as an expert in the use of raw liquids. Natural, professional, and affordable these guys have a wide range of projects as well as posting engaging and useful social media content. Now, let’s take a look at the Gold Winner for Best Toner which was awarded to new Taiwanese brand L’oiseau Bleu for their International Suprême Doux. This product is especially good for those of us with sensitive skin since it includes amino acids and plant extracts. The result is hydrated skin which doesn’t feel at all tight! Much like other European brands which I have written about, the inspiration for this company came due to its founders (who are sisters) frustration at not being able to find a product which was suitable for their own suitable skin. Demonstrating an understanding of the uniqueness every one of us has when it comes to skin products, the sisters offer a try before you buy option, so you can test the products for yourself and see how it works for you. The third brand I’d like to tell you about is THETREE who took Gold for Best Hair Product with their super Purify Hair & Scalp Tonic Treatment. This impressive brand develops professional salon-level hair products tailored for Asians, and aims to create a safe product without adding any toxic ingredients. Their objective is to help millions of women to have beautiful hair and to feel good about themselves. Although this is an asian brand they have strong connections to Europe, particularly Norway and endeavour to make sure that all their products meet the strict EU quality standards. Their social media pages demonstrate excellent customer communication and a steady flow of new products joining the range. Definitely well worth a closer look! Oh my goodness, I'm out of space again. After writing a few blogs on winners from the UK Global Makeup Awards, it’s been a real treat to look further into some of the winners from the Asia Global Makeup Awards. At first glance, the brands seem so different, in terms of marketing material, but once you really get into it, it's quickly apparent that we all want the same things from our beauty products! Thanks again for joining me, Ciao for now Dan Ciao everybody!
Phew! It's 37 degrees here in Italy. We are all struggling and even trying to sleep is really difficult! I’m lucky to live near the beach though so I’ve had some nice, refreshing dips in the lake although as soon as I get out I’m all sweaty again! I’m excited because I’m flying back to London this Friday and I can't wait to see my family and my Global Makeup Awards colleagues who I really miss! I’ve been looking forward to the UK’s cooler weather and I know it’s been pretty hot there too but I’ve just checked the iphone app and it’s looking like mid-twenties in the day and much, much cooler at night! Woohoo! Last month I wrote a blog about winners of the Best SPF Beauty Products and how important they are not only during heat waves but even throughout winter. If you are heading anywhere hot this summer - it's crucial to remember an SPF lip balm as lips are so delicate and are better protected with a balm than sun lotion. A true holiday beauty must have. In today’s blog I would like to look at some other great products which have the added benefits of including protection against UV rays. The Best Lip Balm winner at the 2022 UK Global Makeup Awards was for SNOWBERRY RED Multi-active balm UVA|UVB SPF30 by Albus and Flora. Albus and Flora was founded by physiologist Rachel Williams BSc(Hons), MSc(Dist) who previously had a 10 year career in academia which also involved publishing research and consultancy roles for Team GB at 3 olympic games. Rachel’s inspiration for starting the brand came after skiing in the French Alps where she witnessed first hand the damage UV rays could cause to the lips. This led to her combining her expertise in physiology and science-backed research with her passion for natural botanics. The brand also shares really valuable information and advice on how to protect our skin from sun damage. UV rays and pollutants create free radicals in the skin, which cause oxidative stress that can break down collagen. After a weekend in the sun, it's really important to counteract the damage free radicals can cause with plant-based antioxidants. Serums and moisturisers that have ingredients like green tea, vitamin C, and turmeric extract are the best for treating skin after sun exposure. A look at the brand’s ingredients policy also shows a real commitment to natural ingredients and a solid understanding of the chemicals which are commonly used in cosmetics and the harm they can do to us. In addition to finding natural alternatives to harmful chemicals, the products are also fragrance-free. Furthermore they also strive to use ingredients which are sourced in a sustainable manner and are devoted to using 100% recyclable cardboard in their packaging. Naturally they also avoid any kind of animal testing. If you haven’t already checked out their lip balms, I urge you to do so! This blog has also been a great reminder for me to take care of my lips, especially during this hot period! You guys look after yourselves too! It’s so easy to forget about these things when we’re having fun in the sun! I’ll be back soon! Ciao for now Dan Official Press Release from Marina MiracleMARINA MIRACLE
NATURAL, ORGANIC, VEGAN, PROBIOTIC, CRUELTY-FREE SKINCARE MADE IN NORWAY UK LAUNCH - 21st June 2022 for Marina Miracle ''The world's best face oil and it's from Oslo! This is definitely a beauty product worth testing!'' - COSTUME Magazine says of our Herbal Face Oil, they also call our Argan Night Serum a “Miracle of the Night!" We live in a society that is more environmentally conscious than any generation before. We constantly hear the words ‘Organic, Natural, Vegan, Sustainable’ - often though, these words are used very loosely when it comes to some beauty products currently on the market. Many products contain synthetic chemicals, additives, and perfumes, which can be unwanted ingredients for some consumers and can be irritating to those with sensitive skin. That’s what really sets Marina Miracle apart from anything currently on the UK market. We can honestly say the following statement: Marina Miracle is Scandinavian Skincare at its finest: Natural, Organic, Vegan, Probiotic, Eco Friendly and Cruelty-Free. All ingredients we use are plant-based, renewable and degradable. We do not use microplastics, nano-ingredients or any synthetic ingredients that influence the planet or health in a negative way. As a company, we are proud of our high environmental and sustainability standards, and we have been Green Dot members since 2018. All our products are vegan and cruelty-free; we do not use animal-derived ingredients of any kind, and we never use ingredients that have been tested on animals. We are proud to say that our brand is approved by the official Green List of Dyrevernet (Animal protection in Norway). The company founder, Marina Elisabeth Engervik, was born with atopic eczema and she tells her story: ''The eczema got so bad that I was hospitalized at only 4 years old. And as a teenager and young adult I struggled a lot with acne, sensitive and irritated skin. I tried different treatments and products, but I could not find anything that kept my skin in a healthy balance. I realized that I had to solve this myself. After personal study of formulation processes, skin science and ingredients, I was equipped to formulate a facial oil. And my skin finally became healthy and balanced. I perfected the formula and shared the product with friends and family with different types of skin problems and everyone saw improvement in their skin. The good news spread quickly, and people started to ask for the ''miracle oil'', that's why I named the brand ‘Marina Miracle’”. Since then, Marina Miracle has been a firm favourite amongst customers, beauty bloggers and skincare professionals throughout Scandinavia and Europe. At long last the products will be available to the UK market from 21st June 2022. We've won over 50 other international Beauty awards. We are a small, close-knit family at Marina Miracle with under 20 employees worldwide, but for a small brand, we’re making a big impact! In 2022, Vogue Scandinavia included us in a recent article entitled “14 female-founded Scandinavian beauty brands to know”.
