Hi everyone, First of all, a little reminder that the 2022 Global Green Beauty Awards are open and we are very excited to receive your entries! So please don’t miss out as these are great fun and a wonderful way to receive recognition for your hard work! Last year’s awards were fantastic with so many top-quality brands involved. All of them were really striving to be as green as possible and I loved learning about all the ways they were making a difference! Today I’d like to just briefly mention some of the winners for the 2021 Global Green Beauty Awards, their products and what they do to bring us green and clean products that we can trust! First of all we have Kear who took silver for BEST NATURAL BALM for their Natural Soothing body balm. Kear, or κέᾰρ®, means heart in ancient greek and that’s probably the best possible name for the brand as the brand proudly draws great inspiration from ancient greek skincare using classic natural ingredients and formulas. Heart also fits because it's clear how much passion the team has for the country of Greece, its rich culture, history and contribution to the world. Kear clearly love what they do and and have high expectations for their skincare products and the customer experience. Their natural balm is 100% natural, made from 5 ingredients and is not tested on animals. It contains a unique blend of arnica with extra virgin olive oil, natural beeswax and sweet almond oil, The end result is an analgesic body balm to calm even the most uptight body. It helps to heal bruises and warms stiff muscles and joints. Silver winner of BEST NATURAL MAKEUP PRODUCT was Jane Iredale with her PurePressed Base Mineral Foundation. 25 years ago Jane had a vision for clean, natural beauty; she was way ahead of her time and a real forerunner in the industry, largely responsible for inspiring a lot of brands which have come after but all these years of extra experience have honed the products into pure makeup products which are also good for our skin! Thank you Jane! This foundation is great for use alone or for pressing on top of a liquid foundation to reduce shine. Next we’ll take a quick look at BEST NATURAL SKINCARE PRODUCT Silver Winner which was ARgENTUM apothecary with their excellent La Lune De Velours. Founded by Joy Isaacs who grew up in South Africa and later moved to London where she started a family. After major surgery in 2010, Joy realised that colloidal silver spray, an ingredient her own mother had used on her scrapes when she was young, could provide extraordinary healing qualities. She had a dream and so began an amazing journey that included meeting some important people who would help her realise her ambition of putting out beauty products which she really believed in. A side note about this excellent cleanser - La Lune De Velours. It truly is a lovely shower must-have. The whole product exudes exclusivity and luxury from the moment you open the packaging. We love their signature black containers with no labels. This cleanser comes with a natural sea sponge and the cleanser is light, creamy and removes makeup easily. A beautiful treat and we would highly recommend it from ARgENTUM apothecary. It has an RRP of £98.00 so it is on the high end, but again, it is a truly delightful cleanser. And finally, there is BEST NATURAL DEODORANT Silver Winner Nurme Deo with their Mandarin Orange. With their name taken from the Estonian word for meadow, Nurme uses the beautiful feeling we get when we are surrounded by nature, spring air and flowers and puts it into their products. Preferring to use ingredients local and native to Estonia rather than some of the more exotic ingredients we see, Nurme provide clean beauty which is also environmentally friendly and aim to make us feel relaxed, content and energised! Their natural deodorant is in a cardboard container, has a lovely scent, and lasts all day. The essential oils contained in the deodorants have odor-neutralizing properties and, in addition, the baking soda in deodorants prevents the spread of odorous bacteria. So, that was just a very quick look at some of last year’s winners, all fantastic brands with fascinating stories behind their products! I’ll be back soon with a look at some more previous winners! Ciao for now! Dan

Hi everybody,
How are you all? Has spring arrived for you? I don’t want to boast but it's lovely here (Lake Garda, Italy!) I look forward to spring so much and it really makes me happy when the weather gets warmer, the daffs appear and the blossom starts making its presence known! My neighbours are worried about the lack of rain in recent months and they say that we’ll probably pay for that with a wet summer but I’m feeling positive! It’s been a little while since my last post so I’m excited to bring you lots of big Global Makeup Awards news. First of all, I should let you know that entries have now closed at the 2022 Global Makeup Awards for the regions of the UK, USA and ASIA. We've seen a record number of brands enter, it’s so exciting to be working with familiar brands as well as new ones so that’s kept us busy over the winter! I have to say that there are really strong entries across the board - this year is going to be really tricky for the judges There are a lot of great benefits to winning these awards though, not only does it increase credibility and provide great recognition of your hard work but in addition there is exposure in our e-magazine, a beautifully printed certificate and an online winners logo that really catches the eye! It's exciting to see how the awards are now really global - we have our newest regions Asia and USA which are growing each year. Asia is now in its 2nd year and USA regions are now in their 3rd year. It's great to see our beauty awards expands through the different regions throughout the world. Last year was a huge year where I blogged about lots of different great winners - as you probably noticed, I love digging into the stories behind the brands. I want to know why they exist, who are the human’s behind the brands and what their motivations for starting their own business are. It quickly becomes apparent that financial reasons are not behind the companies’ formation but a genuine passion for quality beauty products and a huge sense of reward in helping others. It’s probably also apparent that I do have a strong sense of gratitude to the brands which work tirelessly to make their products ethically and I really appreciate the lengths they go to to use natural ingredients, avoid animal-testing and support local economies. The Scandinavian brands have really been forerunners when it comes to ethical-business practice but I’m delighted to see their techniques being replicated all over the world. You guys are all really making a difference and I think our industry is now one of the best there is and a model for other industries to follow. We’ve seen really dramatic changes to practices and expectations over the last decades! Anyway! I have a few more blogs planned over the coming weeks so I’ll be back very soon with more big news as well as some spotlights on some of my favourite recent winning brands! As ever, ciao for now! Dan Hi again everyone!
Yikes, January is already over! That was quick!!! I am enjoying watching the evenings gradually get lighter though! As much as I am always disappointed when, after all the build-up and excitement, Christmas is over, I can’t wait for spring and summer to arrive! Big News! The 2022 Scandinavia Global Makeup Awards have been announced! We are receiving entries from new brands who haven’t entered before and, as always, we are so excited to assess the increasingly impressive products which enter. We also have sent our their gorgeous winner's trophy - the pespex looks so great sitting on glass to promote your win to your customers and clients. Today I’d like to remind you about some of the 2021 Scandinavia Global Makeup Awards winners! Let’s start with BEST CLEANSER GOLD WINNER, Dr.Ankerstjerne with their WASH The Day Off facial cleanser. On their website, the company leads with the following line “ Developed by Norwegian doctors for Scandinavian conditions”. I love this as I think it beautifully and succinctly represents the brand while also reinforcing trust in the quality and research behind the cleanser! Additionally, it’s reassuring to know that skincare products which are designed to work in the cold scandinavian winters will also work for our team members based in London and Northern italy! Founders Stine and Andre Ankerstjerne prefer to run a small line of products and to concentrate on making them as effective as possible. The couple spent five years conducting research and performing testing before launching the brand in 2018. Meanwhile, BEST MOISTURISER SILVER WINNER was Transderma M for their Moisture Serum. Having spent over 30 years researching natural antioxidants and vitamins, Dr. Alvin Ronlán applied his wealth of knowledge and expertise to create the vitamin skin serums which make this Swedish brand one of the best products on the market. One of the main objectives for Transderma M is to support long-term healthy skin. Recognising that as we age, the vitamins that reach our skin via the food we eat gradually reduce, this company aims to provide a targeted approach, directly applying vitamins to skin cells to provide a revitalised and healthy look. The Gold Winner for BEST HAIR PRODUCT went to Owow Kit - which also happens to be 30% off in their January sale! Founder, Georgiana Grudinschi believes that the key to looking good lies in products which are simple, convenient, healthy and ethical. In her story she explains how she used to love getting conventional chemical treatments on her hair but began searching for a more affordable alternative! Through her research, she discovered how damaging some of those treatments she had been using could be for her health and became determined to create a solution that would give great results but not at a price to her health or indeed to the health of the planet. OK! That’s just a quick look at three marvellous brands which I urge you to check out! Also, don’t forget that the UK, ASIA and USA Global Makeup Awards for 2022 went live earlier this month and there is still time to enter! I’ll be back very soon with a look at some more success stories from the 2021 Scandinavian Global Makeup Awards. Until then, ciao for now! Wishing you all a wonderful Christmas, and see you on 6th January for the opening of our Global Makeup Awards for UK, ASIA and USA. Peace and love Dom Merry Christmas to all our Global Makeup Awards and Global Green Beauty Awards friendsHi everybody,
Wow, winter has really hit today! Here in Northern Italy, we had blue skies and sunshine over the last week but today there is a strong icy wind! Luckily, most of us are at home as 8th December marks the Immaculate Conception so schools are closed and so are most workplaces! It's perfect for staying inside and reading or watching movies, but I can’t stand staying inside all day so after I finish this blog, me and my boys are going to put on our big coats and venture out for a little while! I’m not sure how long we’ll last though, I can hear the wind whistling through our house and the shutters banging away so it’s pretty uninviting out there! But, that's enough about the weather! What I’d really like to say is a big thank you to everyone who has joined me in these blogs over the last year. I’ve really enjoyed writing them and I especially like researching the different brands who have won at the Global Makeup Awards and getting a deeper understanding of what makes them tick! It’s wonderful to be in a business where so many of us are on the same wavelength and I love that we can do our part in helping brands small and large to get the recognition that they deserve! I would also like to take this opportunity to remind you all that the 2021 Scandinavia Global Makeup Awards will be announced on 20th December, that’s only 12 days away! If you haven’t read my previous posts where I talked about past winners from the 2020 Scandinavia Global Makeup Awards, I’d really love it if you took five minutes to do so. There are some really inspiring products and companies coming out of this category! 2022 is going to be a great and exciting year - on 6th January we open not just the UK global Makeup awards but also our awards for USA and ASIA. As with the Scandinavian awards, I recently blogged about past winners from the USA and ASIA awards and if you have a chance, please do take a look. I promised myself I’d move on from talking about the weather, but if it's as bad where you are as it is here then really it's a perfect day to catch up on some blogs! We’ve had a really busy year but we’ve had so much fun that it’s flown by! I’d also like to give a brief mention to the Global Green Beauty Awards, definitely my personal favourite! We had an amazing response to the awards and were so impressed at the quality of the entries as well the levels which companies are going to to help the environment! Honestly, things are progressing so quickly and the benchmark is getting pushed higher and higher! Anyway, that’s it from me for this year but I’ll be back in January with lots of exciting news, I’m looking forward to Christmas but can’t wait for 2022 too! Happy Christmas everybody Dan Are you ready for an incredible 2022 beauty awards?Hi everyone!
It's Dominique here - I know you are all looking forward to Danny's blogs but this is just a quick shout out about dates for 2022 and then it will be back to Danny's beauty awards blogs again! It's been another long and crazy year, and I think we're all feeling that this is how it's going to be for the foreseeable.... but I wanted to reach out to all our brands and readers and say thank you for what has been another incredible year. 2021 saw our biggest beauty awards year yet, with a massive 5 beauty awards completed. We saw the Global Makeup Awards for the UK, Asia, USA and now we are just closing up Scandinavia which will be announced on 20th December. We also saw in the Summer our biggest awards: The Global Green Beauty Awards. We have seen so much determination from all brands, big and small, to create, innovate and bring a smile to people's faces with new and incredible beauty launches. This also meant that we had an incredible 5 magazines launched in 2021 in our Global Makeup Magazine. It has been great seeing this magazine take off this last year, and promote brands in a bigger, more visual and shareable way. We hope the content has provided useful to all our beauty brands - and that all our beauty readers have loved finding more information on our favourite Gold, Silver and Bronze Winners. We can't wait for the magazine to continue next year. Next year, we will be squeezing our regional Global Makeup Awards together for Asia, UK and USA and they will all open on 6th January 2022. (The Scandi region will continue to be held at the end of the year). This year has been a bit different again for everyone, but I really truly hope and wish everyone an incredible Christmas this year and a strong, fit, healthy, happy and prosperous 2022. Please do also pop us a follow on instagram to keep up to date with all our awards dates throughout the year, and see some mentions of some of our favourite beauty brands. Hugs and love Dominique Hi again everyone,
Please don’t forget to enter the 2021 Scandinavian Global Makeup Awards - Entries close on 25 November. In today’s post I would like to take a look back at ChitoCare Beauty, an Icelandic beauty brand from the 2020 Scandinavian Global Beauty Awards. Iceland is not the biggest country in the world yet it is teeming with high-quality beauty brands. Those guys at ChitoCare Beauty really know what they’re doing! They won the category of: BEST FACE MASK GOLD WINNER with ChitoCare Beauty's fantastic Serum Mask. This serum mask is 100% biodegradable so it is responsible for the environment too. In fact, when using this mask while in the bath, you can leave it to dissolve into the bath water to hydrate the skin on your body as well. For over 20 years they have been using a state of the art ingredients for their products: chitin and chitosan (sourced from the shell of North Atlantic Coldwater Shrimps) manufactured in Siglufjordur Iceland. Using modern and sophisticated technology, they source natural products all year round. The serum mask also contains Hyaluronic Acid which leaves the skin feeling moisturised and hydrated. Much like their compatriots, ChitoCare Beauty are heavily focussed on creating natural beauty products in an environmentally-friendly and sustainable fashion. They closely follow Icelandic governmental regulations around ocean sustainability, always taking the health of the planet and the lives of future generations into consideration. So, as we have seen, in addition to being one of the most beautiful and magical places in the world, Iceland is also disproportionately important to the world of skincare and natural beauty. There is a common thread that runs through their brands which is an apparent love for their country, a passion for high-quality products and a genuine, authentic consideration of the environment. They very much seem to have a long-term view when it comes to business and don’t like to take short-cuts or cheaper/easier alternatives for their ingredients. So, that brings us to the end of today’s blog! Thanks so much for joining me once again. As ever, ciao for now! Dan Sweden Eco, Marina Miracle, Esse Skincare - Scandi Skincare heavyweights Hi again everybody!
In my last blog I took a deeper look into the stories behind some of the winning brands at the 2021 USA Global Makeup Awards. It’s really interesting how different companies have their own different approaches to their companies and their products. Speaking of which, Scandinavian companies often seem to share similar values and approaches and the 2021 Scandinavian Global Makeup Awards are now open for entries. These will be our last awards of 2021 and we are always very excited about them as Scandinavia is a heavyweight in the beauty world with its multifunctional products which usually have very trendy packaging and favour a minimalistic design. They also tend to use high quality, locally sourced natural ingredients. October 1st 2021 - Awards open for entries November 25th 2021 - Awards entries close December 20th 2021 - Winners Announced Online Let’s now take a closer look at some of the winners from last year’s 2020 Scandinavian Global Makeup Awards We’ll begin with the BEST CLEANSER GOLD WINNER which was Marina Miracle with their Flower Berry Essence Sweet & Creamy Oil Cleanser Marina Miracle was founded by Marina Elisabeth Engervik who had first-hand experience of skin problems and the challenge of finding suitable treatments as she was born with atopic eczema and it was so bad that aged just 4 she ended up in hospital. As she grew up she continued to struggle with acne, sensitive and irritated skin but was unable to find any treatments that would keep her skin healthily balanced! Determined to find a solution that would work for her and others she committed to research and scientific studies until she was ready to make her own formulas. Initially, the new products worked wonders on her own skin and then for friends and family. Soon word got round and a wonderful new business was born! Now let’s look at Esse Skincare who were our BEST ANTI AGEING PRODUCT GOLD WINNER with their Resurrect Serum. Their founder, Trevor Steyn comes from a scientific background, having studied organic chemistry which then led to a particular interest in Africa’s plants and their potential for skin care. He began his research into Kigelia africana, the African Sausage tree, spending two years formulating his products in preparation for launching Esse two years later. HIs goal for the company is to play a role in “creating a beautiful, indefinitely sustainable future,” Finally, we have BEST BATH / SHOWER PRODUCT GOLD WINNER - Sweden Eco with their Shampoo for hair and body Sweden Eco by Rosenserien is sold across 150 Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark and Serbia. The brand was founded 40 years ago when founder, Laine Nilsson, became aware that the products she was using in her job at a hairdressing salon were negatively affecting her skin. Once she identified the cause of the irritation, she began to examine the ingredients of the products and soon identified her mission as to provide clean and toxin-free skincare to people. Her daughter,Carina Swartz now runs the company! So there we have three wonderful Scandinavian brands who were successful at least year’s Scandinavian Global Makeup Awards. Thanks for joining me for a closer look at their stories, I’ll be back soon! Ciao for now! Dan Best Direct Selling Beauty Brands - with award winning products from the 2021 Global Green Beauty Awards ![]() Hi again everyone, Today I’d like to take a deeper look into more winners from the Global Green Beauty Awards. This time - they all have something in common - they are all from MLMs, aka Direct Selling companies. These companies aren't found in shops, but are sold by their distributors, or from the brand's website. There is a lot to squeeze in so let’s not won’t waste any time and jump straight in! First we’ll take a look at Nu Skin, one of the world’s leading anti-aging companies and originally founded in the United States. They have recently been in the news as last week, in quick response to the current situation in Afghanistan, employees spent a day creating language learning activity sets and toys for refugees arriving in Utah. Additionally, the company made a $20,000 donation to the International Rescue Committee. This impressive act towards helping newly arrived people with a massive culture shock demonstrates not only their company values towards the current global situations but has the added effect of making employees feel like they are directly helping others in need as well as creating a new dynamic between employees, surely deepening bonds and relations. Nu Skin were gold winners for BEST SHEA BUTTER PRODUCT with their Nu Skin Epoch® Baobab Body Butter Tube. This product is a god send for dry skin, and has a delicious scent that you won't resits. BEST VEGAN MAKEUP BRUSH GOLD WINNER was Tropic for their EcoArtist 3in1 Eye Brush. Founder and CEO, Susie Ma, grew up in the tropical North Queensland City of Cairns in Australia. Inspired and educated by her grandmother who was a medicinal chemist and toxicologist, Susie learned that skins needs to be treated with healthy and natural ingredients. Fortunately, the tropical climate was rich in exotic plants and this has influenced the products used at Tropic. BEST VEGAN ANTI AGEING PRODUCT GOLD WINNER went to MONAT and their Botanic Bakuchiol Lotio. Founded in 2014, Monat has three principles which it bases its practice on; the first of which is Healthy Planet as they carefully assess and audit their environmental impacts and strive to be as eco-friendly as possible, the second is Purposeful Business and Products which includes using natural and sustainable products, and the third is Joyful People and Communities. GOLD WINNER for BEST PLANT BASED BEAUTY PRODUCT was awarded to Arbonne and their AgeWell Collagen Nurturing Serum with 2% Bakuchiol. Arbonne are committed to the link between inner and outer beauty, understanding the direct connection between the two. They combine intense scientific research with top-grade plant ingredients to create safe, clean products which they are clearly immensely proud of, and rightly so. All Arbonne products are Vegan, Cruelty-Free, Formulated Gluten-free. Their philosophy is made up of 4 key factors, all rooted in scientific research. They are- Plant Based Ingredients High Clean Standards Co-development with experts Scientific testing Finally, let's take a closer look at Silver Winner for MOST INNOVATIVE GREEN PRODUCT SILVER which went to Young Living for their CBD Beauty Boost. I love the way these guys describe themselves so rather than paraphrase I’ll share this wonderful statement from their website where they describe their purpose- “We are distillers and dreamers, creators and caretakers, farmers and family. We uplift and enhance lives around the world through nature’s living energy—essential oils.” In addition to these beautiful words, Young Living are also taking really impressive action, here are just some of their achievements so far! 99 percent landfill-free status at our largest distribution center Green Business of the Year and Recycler of the Year (2019) Minimising environmental impact with their packaging Using only high-grade natural ingredients Do check them out and all the other great brands who were winners at the 2021 Global Green Beauty Awards! Until next time, ciao for now! Dan Graydon Skincare, The Humble Co. and Juice Beauty - winners in the 2021 Global Green Beauty Awards with their incredible bamboo productsHi again everyone! I hope you are good and September is going well! Personally, I’m always a bit sad about the end of summer but sometimes September can be a really great month with good weather and smaller crowds! Here in Italy the weather has been really good and it's still warm enough to eat outside yet cool enough to sleep at night. Thank goodness! In the last blog we explored the stories behind some of the winners from the last Global Green Beauty Awards, specifically those with hemp as an ingredient! In today’s blog I want to take a better look at the winners of the Best Bamboo Product category, a new category within our Green Beauty Awards. Let’s begin with the Gold Winner which was Graydon Skincare with their Bamboo Charcoal Konjac Sponge. This product is 100% vegan and 100% biodegradable. It becomes jelly like when wet, but when dry, it shrinks in size ready for the next use. Made with 100% biodegradable konjac plant fiber and bamboo charcoal, this sponge is the ultimate tool to detoxify pores, smooth your skin and thoroughly cleanse your face. This product was a truly brilliant entry in the 2021 Global Green Beauty Awards and was a well deserved winner. Bamboo is one of those miracle ingredients which can be used so many ways in the beauty industry. This Canadian company has been going for about nine years and founder Graydon Moffat featured last month on City TV Breakfast television (see here). Interviewed in her immaculate kitchen, Graydon explained how her previous experience as a yoga instructor and a vegan chef as well as her holistic approach feeds into her philosophy behind her skincare business. During the TV interview Graydon explains that her mission is to give people the chance to have a good skin day every day through products with simple, natural ingredients and to play a part in people all over the world feeling good about themselves! I love how simply and sincerely she states that and it’s clear that she loves her work! Additionally, the website proudly declares their ingredients to be dermatologist and clinically tested, hypoallergenic, non-irritating, vegan as well as cruelty-free. Silver winner was The Humble Co. for their Interdental Brush / Bamboo. Established in 2013 by dentist Noel Abdayem and based in Sweden they follow the typical Scandinavian model which loves simplicity and efficiency. Inspired by a trip to Jamaica where he did voluntary work, Noah returned and set up the company which boasts products in over 40,000 stores and clinics worldwide. It’s not surprising that they are so popular as the oceans are filled with old plastic toothbrushes (every single year we go through 10 billion plastical oral care products). It's clear that there is not only a demand but an absolute necessity for The Humble Co. to continue with its fight to give us high quality oral care in an environmentally friendly way! Bronze winner was the super Juice Beauty for their Bamboo Pore Refining Mask. We loved this mask as it keeps help spots at bay. It contains bamboo charcoal & kaolin clay to help detox; Aspen bark to help smooth & hydrate, and exfoliating polyhydroxy acids for a softer, smoother complexion. Founder Karen Behnke already had a wealth of experience as an entrepreneur in the wellness industry but her pregnancy at 40 and the changes in her hormonal balance inspired her to develop a skincare product which would work for others like her who are concerned that our skin absorbs the products we use on it and wanted effective solutions which were not harmful to the body or the environment. Her goal was not just to provide products that were as good as conventional options, but actually better. Consequently she spent five years working with scientists to explore complex organic formulations. Juice Beauty was founded in 2005 and is Vegan, Cruelty Free, Sustainable and they use Certified Organic Ingredients. So, thanks for joining me for a closer look at the newest category for our 2021 Green Beauty Awards and at this year’s winners! I’ll be back soon to delve deeper into the stories behind more of our winners. Ciao for now! Dan |
