.Hi Everyone, We thought we would look into and explore what is happening to the beauty industry during the coronavirus pandemic. There's some pretty scary stats out there about the economy in general - four days ago the BBC reported that the economy has drunk a record 20.4% in April. The big question in our industry though is, how is the beauty and cosmetics industry being affected? Firstly - some products are not only on the up, but are spiralling into the stratospheres of success - bars of soap, liquid soap, hand sanitiser and disinfecting products. We have also seen beauty brands help out - one of our winner's in the UK 2020 Global Makeup Awards, the L'Occitane Group, has manufactured over 70,000 litres of hand sanitizer for health officials. As spas and salons have been forced to shut by government mandate (Treatwell is currently suspended), we have also seen a huge rise in home treatments. That includes home face masks, box hair dye kits and home hair removal kits. At this point we of course want to mention our favourite hair removal kit, and winner in the UK 2020 Global Makeup Awards - No Mo-Stache's No Mo-Unibrow. On the other hand, the beauty events calendar has been thrown into the air. Beauty Awards with galas have had to cancel the galas of course and stream them online or to announce them online. Beauty Expos such as Bologna's Cosmoprof has been postponed until next year and will be Spring 2021. People are also looking after themselves more in lockdown - we are seeing 40% of high income earners looking to actively manage their stress, including with at home spa treatments. Brands have been forced online, and have been selling through their website, facebook, Instagram and other online channels. Many, who haven't been able to adapt to selling online, have ceased business for months, It's not all doom and gloom for the beauty industry though. Euromonitor international predicts that the beauty sector, both luxury and non luxury, is set to fall by just 2% this year. It is a negative fall, but it could have been much worse. For example, comparatively, the luxury goods market will fall 18% this year globally. As a side note, Switzerland is seeing a fall of 25% for the luxury goods market, which is a whopping fall of 1 in 4. We are also expected to see an economic bounce back, and we are hoping some consumers have experimented with new beauty brands during lockdown. What is the Global Makeup Awards and Global Green Beauty Awards seeing within the beauty and cosmetics industry? In addition to the above - we thought you might want to see closer to home our own experiences and expectations for the beauty industry during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Of course we have seen business struggle with warehouse issues, particularly at the beginning of the outbreak when there were no organised ways to manage social distancing, but that now seems to almost have disappeared. People have more guidance and know how to work appropriately. We are also seeing people want to use marketing more than ever to promote their brands online. We have seen a monumental number of entries in the Global Green Beauty Awards. This awards is green and clean, and it seems the coronavirus outbreak has also led people to be more environmentally aware. This has been the perfect backdrop to enter the 2020 Global Green Beauty Awards. Though we had to postpone Asia as a beauty awards which was due to launch, regrettably, during the Chinese coronavirus outbreak, as a whole the other regions haven't been affected and are going ahead as scheduled. As an online beauty awards and makeup awards, we are online only so thankfully we have not had to cancel any galas and therefore on a personal level haven't been too affected by the crisis. We hope everyone is slowly getting back to normal and looking forward to nominating their brands in our upcoming USA Global Makeup Awards (An American Beauty Award) and the Global Green Beauty Awards (an environmentally friendly green beauty award). Best wishes the GMA team xx

2020 Green Global Beauty Awards - and an update on our team and industry![]() Hi there everybody! This is Dan with another blog from Italy lockdown! In a minute I want to tell you some exciting news about the imminent launch of the 2020 Green Global Beauty Awards but first here’s a little update from life in lockdown in the Brescia region of Italy, one of the areas hit hardest by coronavirus. Strangely, after over three weeks I feel like I’m getting used to this staying at home malarkey. It’s definitely a sad time for all of us in Italy and tragic that so many people are losing loved ones. However, it’s important for us to all stay fit, healthy and, most of all, positive during these challenging and uncertain times. Some positives which I have taken are: Doing online fitness classes with my old outdoor fitness gang from London. We used to train together in the park at 6:30am three times a week, rain or shine. In fact, I remember once after training through a huge downpour, that the local rugby coach furiously called all his players from the park to demand why they couldn’t turn up to their training session while we all could! Anyway, we’ve been training together online and its been great to see friends who I haven’t seen for four years. Online Poker – A little less healthy but last night I had so much fun playing with my old school friends online. We even did it in fancy dress. I’m kind of enjoying experimenting with the freedom lockdown fashion gives. Anything goes! Acting – Haha! A close friend and I are also practicing our (extremely) amateur acting skills through facetime. We’re currently trying to work out what the heck is going on in Waiting for Godot. Music – Well, I always have time for music but I’m enjoying learning new songs on the ukulele and trying some beginner flamenco guitar techniques. Another reported consequence from lockdown has been greatly reduced pollution and reduced human impact on nature. Sadly, Brescia is one of the most polluted cities in Europe. I’m lucky to live outside of the city and near the beautiful Lake Garda but the traffic can still get extremely bad here, especially during the summer with a high volume of tourists and very few alternate route to get between the towns on the lake. The environment has been on everybody’s mind for quite a few years, but Greta’s recent campaign has brought it even more to the forefront. Such a huge achievement! We’ve already seen a lot of our previous award winners have business models which promote green practices and this April we will launch the 2020 Green Global Beauty Awards. Entries open April 1 st and these awards are obviously exclusively for green/clean brands. The Global Green Beauty Awards comes under the umbrella of the Global Makeup Awards for those brands who want to reflect their greener cleaner side with an awards specifically dedicated at their efforts. With attitudes changing and people wishing to have a more eco conscious beauty regime, we couldn't think of a better way to recognize industry experts than with the 2020 Global Green Beauty Awards. Brands are welcome to enter both the Green Awards and the Global Makeup Awards. There will also be categories for organic products, reflecting the demand from customers to use more ethical skincare products on their skin. These awards are open to brands across the globe! Don’t hesitate to enter if your brand strives to create ethical and environmentally friendly products! That’s all for now folks but I’ll update you again soon! Until then, stay safe! Dan Good afternoon from London where spring is trying its best to nudge its way out in front of winter but not very successfully (so far)! Today I want to shine a spotlight on some of our previous winners. SKOGEN had a great year last year, winning two gold awards and one silver for their Jasmine Collection moisturiser and eye-cream products. “Skogen” means “forest” in Swedish and I think this name perfectly captures the company’s ethos which is to use all-natural ingredients and work in an environmentally friendly way while creating top-quality beauty products. SKOGEN is based in New York and Sweden and has placed itself at the forefront of high-end beauty product brands. The company was founded in Sweden and takes great pride in hiring staff from a range of backgrounds, which complements the company’s innovative approach and unconventional yet ground-breaking way of pushing forward technological solutions. BEST BEAUTY ELECTRICAL DEVICE GOLD WINNER FOREO LUNA 3 The final company which we want to highlight today is Dr Lipp, producers of 100% (not 99%) natural
products. Founded by the infuriatingly multi-talented and stunningly beautiful Pontine, while she was working in Milan. Now based in both West London and a sweet Verbier chalet, Pontine searched high and low for a lip balm which would meet her needs until she stumbled upon nipple balm as the perfect way to keep her skin in prime condition. BEST LIPGLOSS GOLD WINNER - Dr. Lipp Moisturising Colour Tints, BEST LIP BALM GOLD WINNER - Dr. Lipp Original Balm So, please do check out these marvellous companies and their excellent products. December is an exciting month, we’re all looking forward to Christmas, presents, delicious food and seeing our families and friends. What else could we possibly want? Well, for those who work in the make-up industry, an award to acknowledge all the passion, effort and creativity they have put in to driving forward their products would be a nice cherry on the top after a hard year! Additionally, for millions of customers around the world, a stamp of approval on a product which confirms its quality and value is a very useful tool when faced with a myriad of options! In a world where it can be hard to know which the best option is, an award from a trusted source makes things just a little but easier. Judges at The Global Makeup Awards have decades of experience in the industry and know everything there is to know about what makes a great product! It’s also been a busy twelve months for us, and we are also looking forward to finishing the year with a bang! 2019 has brought a record number of entries, and we can safely say that the bar continues to rise. The competition has been strong, and it warms our hearts to see the advances made in the industry. Makeup products are continuously developing, improving and adapting in an ever-changing industry. This can’t happen without a lot of blood, sweat and tears behind the scenes. As we near the holiday period and a well-earned chance to relax and re-charge it is time to assess the year’s achievements and to recognise the passion and exertion that has been involved in creating amazing new products that satisfy the highest of expectations in a fast-paced world. Picking the winners has been a difficult task and our six judges have meticulously analysed every product entered into the competition, ensuring that every entry has been scrutinised and tested. They have had the pleasure of testing a wide range of quality makeup products from a number of brands but then been faced with the arduous task of scoring and ranking the products. Now, the time is here to announce the results, and, on the 10th December, we will name the winners of the Gold and Silver awards. A massive thank you to all the companies who entered, and to our six esteemed judges who approached their roles with enthusiasm, professionalism and diligence. As a wise woman once sang – “All I Want for Christmas is a Scandinavian Global Makeup Award”, who will be crowned winner this year? The Global Makeup Awards 2019 is proud to be featured by Noughty! It makes us burst with pride to see that the UK 2019 Global Makeup Awards is featured by none other than Noughty! You can read their feature of being a silver winner in the 2019 makeup awards above or go straight to their website and read about there win there. Noughty came second, silver place, in the Global Makeup Awards for the cateogry of Best Shampoo/ Conditioner. This was with their product - To the Rescue Intense Moisture Hair Treatment which has an RRP of £8.99. This hair treatment is made specifically for dry and damaged hair. It is 97% natural too (hence the funky name of noughty - as the idea is without horrible extra chemicals.) It is packed with sweet almond and black oat extracts which makes it a great super quenching treatment. This product will help you hydrate, restructure and transform hair in distress. This rescue remedy smells deliciously of vanilla and works on even the most stubborn, frizz and dry hair. For best results, wash, put in and wrap in clingfilm. It can be used as an intense treatment by leaving it on the hair a little longer. Our judges were truly wowed and can't recommend this glorious product enough. Our name at the Global Makeup Awards loved the Noughty hair treatment. If you are looking to try it for yourself you can find their To The Rescue here. A big thank you to noughty for entering the awards and for your great write up about us on your website! Winners announced in UK Global Makeup Awards 2019Wow, what a year it's been!
Global Makeup Awards looks at Lush's new flagship Liverpool storeBath bomb beauty bananza Lush has opened its biggest doors yet. After last year's marketing scandal of their 'anti spy cops campaign' the brand has recovered well. They have looked at revolutionising beauty spaces to create a whole experience when entering their new flagship store.
Lush have just opened their flagship store in Liverpool. It is truly huge at a massive 1380sq metres, not only is it on three floors (one of which is entirely dedicated to its own in-house spa) but it is also manned by 167 staff members. Playing to their strengths, which is environment first, this is even replicated in their coffee bar. With plant based milks only, Lush is hot on the veganism trend as their coffee and their beauty products are of course against cruelty to animals. Their coffee is 100% vegan and their cafe is also against single use plastic. Furthermore, all their products are completely sourced in the UK to cut down their carbon footprint - so be sure to bring along your reusable flask the next time you pop to Liverpool! Their flagship Lush store also comes complete with its own hair salon 'Lush HairLab'. This is their first hair salon and comes stocked with 50 unique hair products from Lush. Moving away from the toxicity of hair dye - this lush salon offers Henna alternatives as well as of course hair cuts, treatments and blowouts. Who knows, maybe lush will enter one of their new makeup, beauty or haircare products in the Global Makeup Awards this year as we look at all the latest products launches from the last year from the beauty industry. Our beauty and makeup awards would be delighted to have a to luxury beauty brand apply and nominate their products ready for review by our team of professional judges for review. Physically, the open plan store is stunning - with products laid out in a way that you will want to snap it for your instagram, but also because of the floral arrangements throughout the store. In fact, it even houses its own in house florists so you can buy some plants to take home with you. Just like the coffee, all the plants are sourced from the UK. Offering seasonal bouquets, it makes for a unique purchase at the new Lush store. Lastly, with a whole floors dedicated to a spa this is something to definitely enjoy. It is the 8th of Lush's Spas, but this one is even designed to host parties! Or else, book your self in for a relaxing massage to take the edge off shopping. The Global Makeup Awards: Scandinavia |
