The 2022 Scandinavia Global Makeup Awards have opened for entries!Hello Everyone!
So sorry it's been a while. It's Dominique the Editor of the Global Makeup Awards here. Don't worry - Danny will soon be back to giving you his reviews of some of the amazing entries we had in the 2022 Global Green Beauty Awards. I just wanted to pop on here for our followers to wish you a happy Autumn. After a month off (after a very busy year with the Global Green Beauty Awards and our Global Makeup Awards for the Uk, ASIA and USA, I'm delighted to be back at the computer to bring to you our last awards of the year - our 2022 Scandinavia Global Makeup Awards. The 2022 Scandinavia Awards are held in Autumn / Winter for our Scandi friends, as they symbolise all things Hygge - crunchy leaves, the wild, fresh air, pure and natural ingredients, cozy firesides. The awards for this region are now in their fourth year and it's been so great growing over the years and watching to see how the Scandi brands have been changing and adapting and also their response with COVID in 2020 and 2021. Self care and looking after ones inner wellbeing has always been central to Scandinavian way of life. The winters are long and hard, and sometimes, to pull you through the long winter, you do just need a little bit of self care, a nice long bath, a skin care regime then some cozy pyjamas in a warm living room - maybe with a favourite book....or who are we kidding a bit of celebrity junk TV! So - to all our Nordic friends - please be aware of the short entry dates this year - it is all being squeezed in so you can celebrate your win by Christmas. Dates are here. For everyone else waiting on the UK, ASIA and USA GMA awards, as well as our 2023 Global Green Beauty Awards - these dates will be announced in December. Ciao everybody!
Phew! It's 37 degrees here in Italy. We are all struggling and even trying to sleep is really difficult! I’m lucky to live near the beach though so I’ve had some nice, refreshing dips in the lake although as soon as I get out I’m all sweaty again! I’m excited because I’m flying back to London this Friday and I can't wait to see my family and my Global Makeup Awards colleagues who I really miss! I’ve been looking forward to the UK’s cooler weather and I know it’s been pretty hot there too but I’ve just checked the iphone app and it’s looking like mid-twenties in the day and much, much cooler at night! Woohoo! Last month I wrote a blog about winners of the Best SPF Beauty Products and how important they are not only during heat waves but even throughout winter. If you are heading anywhere hot this summer - it's crucial to remember an SPF lip balm as lips are so delicate and are better protected with a balm than sun lotion. A true holiday beauty must have. In today’s blog I would like to look at some other great products which have the added benefits of including protection against UV rays. The Best Lip Balm winner at the 2022 UK Global Makeup Awards was for SNOWBERRY RED Multi-active balm UVA|UVB SPF30 by Albus and Flora. Albus and Flora was founded by physiologist Rachel Williams BSc(Hons), MSc(Dist) who previously had a 10 year career in academia which also involved publishing research and consultancy roles for Team GB at 3 olympic games. Rachel’s inspiration for starting the brand came after skiing in the French Alps where she witnessed first hand the damage UV rays could cause to the lips. This led to her combining her expertise in physiology and science-backed research with her passion for natural botanics. The brand also shares really valuable information and advice on how to protect our skin from sun damage. UV rays and pollutants create free radicals in the skin, which cause oxidative stress that can break down collagen. After a weekend in the sun, it's really important to counteract the damage free radicals can cause with plant-based antioxidants. Serums and moisturisers that have ingredients like green tea, vitamin C, and turmeric extract are the best for treating skin after sun exposure. A look at the brand’s ingredients policy also shows a real commitment to natural ingredients and a solid understanding of the chemicals which are commonly used in cosmetics and the harm they can do to us. In addition to finding natural alternatives to harmful chemicals, the products are also fragrance-free. Furthermore they also strive to use ingredients which are sourced in a sustainable manner and are devoted to using 100% recyclable cardboard in their packaging. Naturally they also avoid any kind of animal testing. If you haven’t already checked out their lip balms, I urge you to do so! This blog has also been a great reminder for me to take care of my lips, especially during this hot period! You guys look after yourselves too! As I’ve mentioned a few times before, I really enjoy working on the Global Green Beauty Awards and I can’t wait for this year’s! In my last blog I talked about four silver winners from last year’s awards. Today, I want to continue on this theme, writing a little more about those previous winners. Provacan were Silver Winners for Best Salt Based Products with their CBD Bath Salts 100mg. Founded by Clifton Flack who moved from the UK to Israel in 2005 where he swiftly became recognised as an expert in consumer and corporate marketing. He became particularly interested in CBD as an ingredient and applied his ability to really listen and react to customer feedback to develop Provacan into an industry leading brand with a reputation for customer responsiveness. They take great pride in their transparency and their science led process which ensures that all their ingredients are independently lab-tested to make sure they are from the highest-grade certified organic EU hemp. Another of my favourites is the MOST INNOVATIVE 'GREEN' PRODUCT GOLD WINNER which went to The Cheeky Panda with their marvallous Biodegradable Bamboo Facial Wipes. First of all, these guys have the cutest little logo featuring, unsurprisingly, a cheeky little panda! These guys understand how by using toiletries responsibly we can also reduce our impact on the environment and how bamboo is an ideal resource for making an important difference! If you still need convincing, these guys have some numbers to back up their claims! By using bamboo we will use 65% less carbon emissions than by using tree based products. Bamboo also releases 35% more oxygen, and absorbs 30% more carbon than trees. BRONZE WINNER from the same category was awarded to The Soap Loaf Company for their Cosmeti-Craft Solid Deodorant Crafting Kit. These guys are really exciting because they offer the unique opportunity to go into their workshops at any time during opening hours and make your own bath bomb, scrubs, body butters, moisturiser, lip balm, solid deodorant, solid perfume, foot lotion, shower fizzers and shampoo bars. They have tutorials available in the workshops and also take bookings for groups and parties! How fun! The company is also committed to running an environmentally friendly business and uses 100% recycled packaging as well as re-using and recycling all the plastics and other materials which arrive from suppliers. Those were three very different companies and products, all three had their own distinct styles yet they were all winners at the 2021 Global Green Beauty Awards in recognition of not only their super products but also their dedication to clean beauty and the steps they made towards making their businesses and clean as possible while demonstrating a commitment to continual improvement! How are you all? Has spring arrived for you? I don’t want to boast but it's lovely here (Lake Garda, Italy!) I look forward to spring so much and it really makes me happy when the weather gets warmer, the daffs appear and the blossom starts making its presence known! My neighbours are worried about the lack of rain in recent months and they say that we’ll probably pay for that with a wet summer but I’m feeling positive! It’s been a little while since my last post so I’m excited to bring you lots of big Global Makeup Awards news. First of all, I should let you know that entries have now closed at the 2022 Global Makeup Awards for the regions of the UK, USA and ASIA. We've seen a record number of brands enter, it’s so exciting to be working with familiar brands as well as new ones so that’s kept us busy over the winter! I have to say that there are really strong entries across the board - this year is going to be really tricky for the judges There are a lot of great benefits to winning these awards though, not only does it increase credibility and provide great recognition of your hard work but in addition there is exposure in our e-magazine, a beautifully printed certificate and an online winners logo that really catches the eye! It's exciting to see how the awards are now really global - we have our newest regions Asia and USA which are growing each year. Asia is now in its 2nd year and USA regions are now in their 3rd year. It's great to see our beauty awards expands through the different regions throughout the world. Last year was a huge year where I blogged about lots of different great winners - as you probably noticed, I love digging into the stories behind the brands. I want to know why they exist, who are the human’s behind the brands and what their motivations for starting their own business are. It quickly becomes apparent that financial reasons are not behind the companies’ formation but a genuine passion for quality beauty products and a huge sense of reward in helping others. It’s probably also apparent that I do have a strong sense of gratitude to the brands which work tirelessly to make their products ethically and I really appreciate the lengths they go to to use natural ingredients, avoid animal-testing and support local economies. The Scandinavian brands have really been forerunners when it comes to ethical-business practice but I’m delighted to see their techniques being replicated all over the world. You guys are all really making a difference and I think our industry is now one of the best there is and a model for other industries to follow. We’ve seen really dramatic changes to practices and expectations over the last decades! Anyway! Today I want to share some more information with you about last year’s winners at the Scandinavia Global Makeup Awards. Two of these brands are repeat winners while one is a brand new company that has made a huge impact on the industry! Let’s start with BEST ANTI AGEING PRODUCT GOLD WINNER which was Founders Formula with the their marvallous Australian Botanicals Pro-Aging Treatment Concentrate Serum Founder, Annie Holden launched the company last year after being inspired three years earlier after visiting the Cosmoprof beauty trade show in Bologna with her friend. Noticing that Australia was badly under-represented in the beauty world she made a decision to change that, especially as she knew that Australia’s plant-life is renowned for their active ingredients and their potential for skincare. BEST TONER GOLD WINNER was Bruns with their N°103b Green Mist Unscented. This Swedish company was initially created by Johanna as a hairdressing salon. Later, another experienced hairdressing professional Cecila bought into the company. The duo wanted to make safe, natural hairdressing products and avoid the chemicals and their effects which they’d seen too much of over their careers. Their objective was to make hair products that were free of harmful chemicals and with help from Johanna’s 75 year-old father Per, an expert in the composition of raw materials, they created their first products Then, we have Eleni & Chris who were BEST CONDITIONER GOLD WINNER with their CurliMin Defining Conditioner. This brand is the result of a mother-daughter collaboration and despite having very different approaches, Inger Ellen and Christinah Nicolaisen share a strong drive to create the best products possible, taking great inspiration from the Scandinavian roots. Whilst they differ in their background and approach, Inger Ellen and Christinah share an extraordinary level of drive, passion and creativity, rooted in and inspired by their Scandinavian home. The partnership of these women is founded in mutual respect of the strengths that they each bring to the creation of beauty products embodied by their unique spirit. The brand began in 2015 when the pair made the decision to use local ingredients, particularly berries to create a range of products. I have visited Scandinavia several times and I love how passionate the inhabitants are about their berries. Cloudberries in particular are particularly precious, almost impossible to find outside of Scandinavia and difficult to find even there. However, research and laboratory analysis showed that the cloudberry is full of vitamins as well as calcium and magnesium. This is a truly unique product and a wonderful example of Scandinavian Ingredients. Thanks again for joining me as I learn more about the people and the stories behind last year’s winners. Each company has their own unique raison-d'etre yet we all share common ground with our love for good-quality beauty products. That’s one of the things that makes running these awards so rewarding and fun! We are delighted to share the dates for our Global Makeup Awards and Global Green Beauty Awards for 2022. We are rolling together the entry dates for the USA, ASIA and UK for 2022 at the beginning of the year. It will then be followed by the 2022 Global Green Beauty Awards. Then, to end the year in September, we will be opening Scandinavia 2022 Global Makeup Awards. There's quite a few for your diary! As always, we look forward to seeing the latest in beauty innovation from new and exciting brands. It doesn't have to be makeup - we have categories for hair care, skincare, bodycare, fragrances and more. To enter a regional award - you need to sell your beauty products in that country. You do not have to have a shop or be in a retailer, however, you have to be able to purchase that product in the specified country, even if only by shipping.
