We were lucky enough here at the Global Makeup Awards to get our hands on Guerlain's freshly dropped new foundation: L'essentiel. Currently only available at flagship Selfridges stores, it's still a little hard to get hold. But soon it will be launched in all the large department stores.
We had three official beauty testers trying the new L'essentiel foundation with three different skin tones and skin types. All three managed to find a suitable shade which a very good match which, when it comes to foundations is the most important thing to look for: good colour matches. Coming in 30 choice there is ample choice including a large selection of dark tones. Interestingly, 2 of the beauty testers had dry skin and one oily, yet all three found the foundation comfortable and suitable for their skin types. The coverage was medium - full and gave a lovely tone to the skin with a slight golden glow.
The foundation was long-lasting and this is true to the product claim of lasting 16 hours. They also promote this foundation as being made with 97% naturally derived ingredients. Perhaps Guerlain is changing its mindset putting natural beauty at the forefront of its mission statement with products, or maybe it is just listening more to its consumers. Either way, the market place is changing and looking more for 'greener' makeup products in the beauty sector.
Returning to the beauty testers, all three were extremely satisfied by the foundation, not only how it felt on the skin letting it breath, but also with the appearance which was more balanced and uniform after application. A foundation which can also be built up for maximum coverage, the beauty testers found that one smooth application was enough for total coverage.
The product claims to protect against pollutants and antioxidants. An important principle for those living in the city and subject to large amounts of heavy pollutants. Lastly, the packaging is unique and aeshtetic. In a 'unique and disruptive bottle' it definitely catches the eye and has been designed by Mathieu Lehanneur.
Over all, we were very impressed with this newly launched foundation, and recommend it with a strong 5/5. As always, we recommend trialling the product for yourself for a day to make sure oyu are choosing the correct shade for you and to make sure that the product fits your skin type.
Currently, only Guerlain's new foundation L'essentiel is available to by online from Selfridges here or in their flagship shops for a RRP of £44.00
