What have we taken away from 2020? Maybe that we are looking to pamper ourselves at home a bit more, and also that we are more aware of our health, wellbeing, body and environment. One product which takes all of that into account, is giving yourself a mini manicure at home with the green and clean brand called S'N'BIO. S’N’BIO’S mantra is one for all of us to remember. We’ve had some of their super nail varnishes on tests and believe us when we say we would have been full of praise for this company just reviewing their products without being aware of the scientific pluses to complement production . First, the product. S’N’Bio Natural Origin intense Gloss Lasting Wear varnish glides on the nail perfectly with each stroke. Some of us can hardly see our toes when applying and yet the end result was a perfectly even application. Top marks just for that. The colours are amazingly complementary, the gloss finish spot on. And it really lasts the course. So that’s the positives on the actual product but the production process really backs it up. One of our favourite shades is the taupe / mink natural shade that is very subtle. Another favourite is a bit more va va voom and is the ruby red shade. HOW IT'S GREEN AND CLEAN This plant based nail varnish is based on a vegan revolutionary formula combining the power of nature with an extremely rich long lasting nail colour. The natural composition is certified 85% vegetable origin ingredient. The double patented formula includes potato, corn, wheat, manioc, sugarcane and cotton. No damage to our nails or cuticles. They won silver in the 2020 Global Green Beauty Awards for best Vegan Hand / Nail Product. The umbrella brand, Safe 'n' Beautiful has more than just S'N'Bio. In fact, we were so impressed by the product that we are going to order their Snails products for our own little Princesses. This is a range of products specifically formulated for use by little ones and also includes a range of beautiful little hair accessories. The packaging is going to be particularly alluring to young beauties. For us this company can do no wrong.

If you want to see confirmation of the old adage that two heads are better than one, look no further than the story of FIINI skincare products. 20 years ago two young girls made friends at High School. Their common ideology became more and more entwined as they matured and had families and homes of their own. At the root of their shared passions was a belief in all things natural ranging from handicrafts to nature and animals.
In the search for finding a skin care solution suitable for sensitive skin these two passionate women created their own skin care range. Heidi had always used natural products in the care of her animals using long passed down family recipes. Essi was searching for the perfect combination of local products for her sensitive skin and thus was born their own skincare range. The resulting oat and honey cream is one of the company’s best sellers and the forerunner of the many products they now offer. The ethos of staying close to nature as their approach to family life. Their products are biodegradable and are in harmony with their environment. The women promise honesty and naturalness. All the oils and fats used in their cosmetics are cold pressed and unpurified. All raw ingredients are natural. No industrial preservations, additives, perfumes or colourants are used. All the creams and liquids are packaged in recyclable aluminium and glass containers. Given their love of animals, animal welfare is just as important. No product testing on animals here. So let's take a look at the products this company has put forward to Global Make Up Awards in the category of .... First product we have been testing Is FIINI Oat Sea Buckthorne Oil Serum. Not just a moisturiser but also helps inflammation and reddening. The oat content stimulates the skin’s metabolism, increases elasticity and stimulates collagen production. Ingredients include beta carotene, vitamins A, C and E, plus Omegas 3, 6 and 9 which promotes skin renewal. It can also be used in lightening the appearance of liver spots. We are also testing another of their droppers, the blackcurrant face oil particularly formulated for oily and combination skin. Ingredients include Jojoba, blackcurrant seed oil and rosemary. Another of their products with blackcurrant is is their Balm to Milk Cleanser with Blackcurrant. This syrupy looking product literally changes shape and form with the addition of water and rubs into the skin with a milk consistency. Finally we are testing their 50 ml tin of shea butter. Great for the handbag or pocket when you go out on a chill day. Shea butter has been used as a cosmetic ingredient for centuries and is particularly effective for acne, cell regeneration and burns. Great for protecting your lips ain’t the cold weather and moisturising when sitting in central heating. Fiini Naturally won multiple awards in the 2020 Global Green Beauty Awards - you can read all of the winner's here on our past winners page. Judges were wowed by the ethics behind the brand, the simple natural ingredients and also their dedication to sustainable packaging. In fact, did you know all of their beauty products are packaged in recyclable glass or metal jars and their cardboard boxes are made of recycled cardboard. To ensure ecological logistics further commit to sourcing their ingredients in large batches and without plastic wrapping. When the cutest of boxes filled with letters, info, stickers and products arrived on our doorstep we just had to sit up and take notice. Open the box. And you immediately have the means to pass on a personalised gift to your own friends. Want to write a letter with a little gift. Of course you can! Something for you and something for them. What could be nicer. Life is for living and sharing isn’t it! You could bake a little Vegan dish for a favourite friend or maybe press some flowers. Some seeds from your flowers in the garden, maybe some veg you’ve grown. So many options and a beautiful on the move face cleanser! You could have Christmas every day with Deardot. The ideas contained in the box give so many options. But keep with the idea of being organic, sustainable and natural. We’ve had the box of Deardot Yuja Cleansing Seals to test. Beautifully presented in the sturdy re-useable cardboard box the seals are an absolute must to put in your overnight bag. Each small sachet contains a leaf of face cleansing seal (although they are great for emergency hand washes too). Just add a touch of water to the seal to activate and you have a ready made Vegan face cleanser without the fuss of carrying a bottle of liquid. We also think this a wonderful way to introduce youngsters to the concept of cleaning their faces properly at nighttime. No more pillowcases full of make up. A great way to get into the routine of thoroughly cleaning off the days grime. But much more than this the company are committed to the future of the Dangyuja Seed, the extract from which is the unique ingredient collected locally on Jeju Island, by donating seeds to the seed Vault to ensure it’s survival. This plant has been used historically as a medicine and now its natural qualities are used to produced this Dear Dot product. Even better, if you inadvertently drop one of the sachets on the ground it will just become a part of nature within 6 months. The company also offer Yuja Sparkling Clean Powder, for a water spa in your own home for healthier, brighter skin and Hydro-Brightening Serum, a dropper of low-molecular hyaluronic acid for an instant brightening effect. With the ethics behind this brand, and the quality of the product, we are proud to say that the Deardot Yuja Cleansing Seal won gold in the 2020 Global Green Beauty Awards for Best Ethical Beauty Product and Most Innovative 'Green' Product. We are going to pop one of these sachets into a letter to our friends and family. Maybe decorate it with a sticker and even use the string to make it something special. Deardot. You gave us some wonderful inspiration to keep in touch with our body, mind, soul and friends. You say it well, A letter from nature, letter to nature.

Just a quick update to all our blog followers that the 2020 Global Green Beauty Awards close today for entries, 5pm GMT 15th July 2020. You have just a couple of hours left to cast your brand's entry in to this years eco friendly beauty awards which looks to celebrate those green beauty products, vegan products and ethical beauty ranges. We have been absolutely flabbergasted with the amount of entries. As editor for the awards, I'm truly humbled to see so many brands, big and small, looking towards a more green ethos within the beauty companies. We have already had hundreds of brands enter into this years awards and we are hoping in the next few hours to see even more before the deadline rings in. Beauty companies have already led the way with the LGBQ community, and now they are leading the green revolution too. We have seen so many brands which use sustainable packaging and have removed virgin plastic from their packaging. Other's use zero waste packaging and have everything completely disposable, from packaging to its carton. Other brands look towards having greener ingredients, and have natural or organic (and sometimes both) within their ingredients list. We also have categories this year for those primal elements from nature which have huge benefits for the skin - shea, charcoal, aloe, honey to name just a few. We also have ethical categories - for those brands with a more ethical stand-point on beauty and perhaps look at sustainable farming, or how to give back to the farmers or the land / plants where the products have been made from. We also have categories for vegan and cruelty free, as many brands are now making sure this is a fundamental step within their product creation in order to maintain a more clean and animal friendly company. Our team is looking forward to judging the best of the best of these eco friendly beauty products with our green beauty awards. We are of course looking at products efficacy, but also the green and clean ethos around the beauty product and the beauty brands themselves. The gold, silver and bronze winners will be announced in our magazine Global Makeup Magazine which you can read on our website home page www.globalmakeupawards.com which is the umbrella company for the Global Green Beauty Awards 2020. The awards will be announced online on 10th August and we cannot wait to show you who this year's winners have been. There has been such a mix of brands, we know you will be delighted to see such a range and to discover the best of the new eco friendly products. Speak soon, Dominique xx Good morning! Daniel here!
It is a beautiful day here in Italy. Lake Garda is so much fun during the summer. There are lots of small festivals at each town with great food, drink, and music. The midday sun is so strong during July, I normally try and avoid going out as it can be quite exhausting and instead work on the Global Makeup Awards (the USA is currently open for entries!) and the Global Green Beauty Awards. However, on Monday I broke my own rules and went to the beach with my SUP board to cool off. It was great but later I noticed that my shoulders were sunburnt. They really seem to suffer, no matter how much sunblock I apply but I’ve been moisturising them regularly since and they feel much better! I better return to my trust favourite by EK Sunscreens - and put on their SPF factor 50 Kawakawa & Tamanu Certified Natural Sun Protection to prevent myself from any future damage! Last night I skipped the AC/DC tribute band playing in the park across the road because this morning I had an early start. A free 1-hour yoga session down by the lake at 6:30am. Such a perfect spot and the air was still nice and cool. Anyway, today I want to shine a little light on a couple of winners from the last beauty awards - the UK 2020 Global Makeup Awards. I would like to begin with BEST MOISTURISER GOLD WINNER: Primex Iceland for their amazing ChitoCare Face Cream. Naturally I’m drawn to moisturisers with a high SPF number anyway but these guys are so much more than that. With their Headquarters based in Iceland, it is inevitable that Primex Iceland is influenced by its geographical surroundings and embraces the rich natural products which are native to the area. In 1999, they opened a hi-tech factory in Siglufjordur dedicated to the production of chitin and chitosan which promote skin-healing and protection. In 2012 they were awarded “The Icelandic Innovation Award” for creating popular, commercial products underpinned by solid, rigorous scientific research and testing. Recently, Primex has provided emergency staff in Iceland’s national hospital with ChitoCare Medical products to relieve the pain and discomfort from cracked skin after using strong hand sanitizers and to protect them from irritation. Now for another winner. This year’s BEST SHAMPOO / CONDITIONER GOLD WINNER in the UK 2020 Global Makeup Awards was Biovène Barcelona for their Argan Oil & Mint Hydrate Repair Conditioner In-A-Bar. Here at the Global Makeup Awards, we really loved this innovative company and product. Rather than using the traditional conditioner design, this product comes in a bar containing natural Argan oil, Peppermint, Macadamia oil, Beeswax and Shea butter. Not only is it plastic-free (always a good thing), it also reduces water waste and increases efficiency (1 bar provides 50% more treatments than a typical bottle). Additionally, the company has a strong no-cruelty ethos as well as supporting vegan lifestyles and embraces the beauty of diversity across the globe. Please, please do try their conditioner in-a-bar. This is a wonderful idea which should really catch- on! OK, thanks for reading another In the Spotlight Blog. I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it. These guys are deserved winners of their beauty awards and I’m sure we’ll all be hearing much more from them in the future! Until next time, CIAO!!! Our beautiful UK 2020 Global Makeup Awards trophies have arrived!Good (early) morning everyone!
It's Dominique here from the Global Makeup Awards. Today I'm up too early....3.45am because the sun is just rising, it's one day after the summer solstice. That's not a regular habit of mine... more just being someone who once sees the sun is up, I can never get back to sleep again, anyone else like that? A little quick update with where we are with the awards. We currently have TWO awards open. We have both the 2020 Global Green Beauty Awards open (a green beauty awards alternative) and the 2020 USA Global Makeup Awards open. (This is like the other Global Makeup Awards you know and love, but this time we've branched out into the fabulous American market, where the is so much beauty innovation and expertise. We are so excited to be launching in the USA and for our USA beauty awards to be taking on a whole other shape and dimension. Entries for the Global Green Beauty Award end July 15th, and for the USA Global Makeup Awards the entries close August 1st. We don't normally have two awards running at the same time, but as you all know coronavirus has wreaked havoc on schedules and timings so we have had to have had a little reshuffle! In other beauty related news, we have had delivery of our 2020 UK Global Makeup Awards trophies. They are so beautiful. We love our innovatively designed A6 perspex block beauty award trophies. They look so cute on a desk to celebrate a win or placed on a shelf. If you have just entered our Global Green Beauty Awards or the USA Global Makeup Awards and would like to order one like in the picture, just let us know. Why not try and collect one for each global region that we run our awards in, or one each year? They cost £150 for one trophy celebrating one win, but be sure to let us know soon as you win as we have a short order window. What do you receive when you win in our awards? We really do try to add value in our awards. Every winner in our beauty awards receives for free and entry in our Global Makeup Magazine, and for the moment that includes an image too. You also receive a paper certificate posted to your door and of course our iconic awards logo and a mention with back link on our website. But, if that's not enough for you and you would like something physical on your desk, then an additional perspex trophy is exactly what you are looking for. We also announce the winners in Diary Directory. Have you signed up to it yet? It is such an amazing beauty tool to find out what is going on in the beauty events calendar, and their daily email is really interesting. You'll also never miss out on our awards dates this way either! Will you ever run a gala? A gala for our beauty awards is something we are so keen to do. What better event is there for networking, socialising, having a good knees up and of course for finding out the winners to the beauty awards with a celebration gala. However, for the moment with the coronavirus pandemic we need to keep things safe. As soon as things return to pre-apocalypse (kidding! but you know what I mean) then it is definitely something we will put on the table. The sun is really coming up now and it's already time for another coffee. If you have received your UK Global Makeup Awards trophy please do send me a picture of it so I can feature on the website and social media. Our next UK awards isn't until January 2021 so let's keep the ball rolling and news about the 2020 awards hot hot hot! Peace and love Dominique x .Hi Everyone, We thought we would look into and explore what is happening to the beauty industry during the coronavirus pandemic. There's some pretty scary stats out there about the economy in general - four days ago the BBC reported that the economy has drunk a record 20.4% in April. The big question in our industry though is, how is the beauty and cosmetics industry being affected? Firstly - some products are not only on the up, but are spiralling into the stratospheres of success - bars of soap, liquid soap, hand sanitiser and disinfecting products. We have also seen beauty brands help out - one of our winner's in the UK 2020 Global Makeup Awards, the L'Occitane Group, has manufactured over 70,000 litres of hand sanitizer for health officials. As spas and salons have been forced to shut by government mandate (Treatwell is currently suspended), we have also seen a huge rise in home treatments. That includes home face masks, box hair dye kits and home hair removal kits. At this point we of course want to mention our favourite hair removal kit, and winner in the UK 2020 Global Makeup Awards - No Mo-Stache's No Mo-Unibrow. On the other hand, the beauty events calendar has been thrown into the air. Beauty Awards with galas have had to cancel the galas of course and stream them online or to announce them online. Beauty Expos such as Bologna's Cosmoprof has been postponed until next year and will be Spring 2021. People are also looking after themselves more in lockdown - we are seeing 40% of high income earners looking to actively manage their stress, including with at home spa treatments. Brands have been forced online, and have been selling through their website, facebook, Instagram and other online channels. Many, who haven't been able to adapt to selling online, have ceased business for months, It's not all doom and gloom for the beauty industry though. Euromonitor international predicts that the beauty sector, both luxury and non luxury, is set to fall by just 2% this year. It is a negative fall, but it could have been much worse. For example, comparatively, the luxury goods market will fall 18% this year globally. As a side note, Switzerland is seeing a fall of 25% for the luxury goods market, which is a whopping fall of 1 in 4. We are also expected to see an economic bounce back, and we are hoping some consumers have experimented with new beauty brands during lockdown. What is the Global Makeup Awards and Global Green Beauty Awards seeing within the beauty and cosmetics industry? In addition to the above - we thought you might want to see closer to home our own experiences and expectations for the beauty industry during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Of course we have seen business struggle with warehouse issues, particularly at the beginning of the outbreak when there were no organised ways to manage social distancing, but that now seems to almost have disappeared. People have more guidance and know how to work appropriately. We are also seeing people want to use marketing more than ever to promote their brands online. We have seen a monumental number of entries in the Global Green Beauty Awards. This awards is green and clean, and it seems the coronavirus outbreak has also led people to be more environmentally aware. This has been the perfect backdrop to enter the 2020 Global Green Beauty Awards. Though we had to postpone Asia as a beauty awards which was due to launch, regrettably, during the Chinese coronavirus outbreak, as a whole the other regions haven't been affected and are going ahead as scheduled. As an online beauty awards and makeup awards, we are online only so thankfully we have not had to cancel any galas and therefore on a personal level haven't been too affected by the crisis. We hope everyone is slowly getting back to normal and looking forward to nominating their brands in our upcoming USA Global Makeup Awards (An American Beauty Award) and the Global Green Beauty Awards (an environmentally friendly green beauty award). Best wishes the GMA team xx Vegan? Cruelty free? We look into what is behind the words for the beauty industryThe 2020 Global Green Beauty awards is aimed at beauty brands who are trying to bring out more green beauty lines or clean beauty lines. The idea is to educate and to move towards a more eco conscious direction for beauty brands and to celebrate those brands which are already greener and cleaner.
There are many ways to be green and clean, for example being plastic free, zero waste, natural, organic, vegan and cruelty free. But being one doesn't necessary mean you are the other. So in today's blog post we thought we would go through some environmental and ecological terminology as it isn't always that clear. It is one thing when you're in the supermarket picking up organic eggs, but another thing when you are browsing for the latest beauty products. What is Vegan beauty? Vegan beauty products by definition contain no animal products or animal derivatives. That means, no lanolin, no beeswax, no honey, no collagen, no gelatin for example. Vegan cosmetics does not necessarily therefore mean it is not tested on animals. The term purely means it contains no animal products or derivatives. Saying that, many many ethical brands try to tick all the boxes and they will often be both vegan and cruelty free beauty products. However, saying it is Vegan is not enough to ensure it is cruelty free, it also needs to state that too in order to be certain it is. Often this is written on the packaging, or on the website, otherwise you can check with the manufacturer directly. What are cruelty free beauty products? Ok, so for a brand to be cruelty free, it needs to not test the products on animals at any stage. That sounds easy, so where does the gray area begin? Often companies say they are 'required by law' to test on animals. This is more often than not for global brands where in some countries it is necessary to test on animals for the product to be able to be sold there. That means, those companies are not cruelty free, as at some stage (to sell the products in some countries) they have to test on animals, even if it is through a third party. So is my cruelty free product vegan? As we said above, being cruelty free does not equate to the product being vegan. This is as though no animals may have been tested on, the product may still contain a product like honey, and therefore not be considered as vegan as the ingredients include animal derivatives. That's quite a lot of information when looking at vegan and cruelty free cosmetics brands, but we hope that cleared up some questions for you for when you are next browsing for your next beauty purchase. We celebrate all brands that are making efforts to support the environment, whether in its ingredients, ethics, testing or more. Slowly slowly, we are all becoming more aware about the environment and our impact on it, as well as its impact on us. We look forward to sharing the winners showcase with you for the 2020 Global Green Beauty Awards on the 10th August when we announce the winners in the Global Makeup Magazine. This awards is for all brands who have products which are in some way, ethical, green and of course clean. Have a great day, The Global Makeup Awards team xx Global Beauty Awards and an update from Italy for all those curious from the UK and beyond!
Hi everyone, Dan from the Global Beauty Awards here again with a little update on the state of things here in the lake garda region on Italy where the sun is shining but the beaches are empty, and the bars are closed. Tomorrow we have an exciting announcement - at 5pm we will be announcing the winners of the UK 2020 Global Makeup Awards. There's been a record number of entries for this awards with over 350 entries! We couldn't believe how many big and small brands entered. If you are still looking to enter an award for your brand - our Global Green Beauty Awards are open for entry with categories for ethical, green, vegan, zero waste, plastic free and natural beauty brands. I thought I would also give a little update on life at the moment in Italy where I am writing this from, as we really can't avoid discussing the coronavirus situation and how it is affecting everyday life in every country and of all walks of life. So, nearly eight weeks have passed since the Italian government declared a lockdown in the country and the rules have gradually become stricter. I live in a fairly small town of 7,000 inhabitants and local news and gossip spreads quickly round here! Last week a citizen was fined 220 euros for not wearing a mask while walking his dog. In the Lombardy region it is now compulsory for anyone leaving the house to wear a mask or at least cover their face with a scarf or bandana. Then a few days later, a woman who is in the process of moving from one house to another was fined 550 euros for passing by her new house to pick up some things while on the way to the supermarket. So, I think its fairly to say that the lockdown is being enforced quite strictly here. The good news though is that the daily death rare, whilst still terrifyingly high, is going down and hopefully the worst is behind us. The government is planning to re-open some businesses and we are awaiting official confirmation of ‘phase 2’ plans. They are due to make an announcement today, but we are expecting that on May 4 th some of the restrictions forbidding us to go out will be lifted. That’s s huge relief as it is extremely eerie watching police cars slowly circle the block while playing a pre-recorded message through a loudspeaker, warning residents to say in their houses. I’m a little more used to the strange atmosphere in the supermarkets now although shopping is not the highlight of me week and I’ve managed to stretch out to nine days between visits, even if that means more meals of tuna and pasta than I’d normally like. On the bright side, since the local beach, which is two minutes away, is out of bounds, I’ve had more time to work with my colleagues on our next beauty awards. Actually, that’s not a chore because our team rocks and we love our jobs. Still, paddle-boarding out on the lake is always pretty special. So, what have we been up to? Well we opened for entries to the Global Green Beauty Awards a few weeks ago and we’ve already had an impressive number of entries. It’s so reassuring to know that the beauty industry takes the environment so seriously and is working so hard to create products in an ethical and sustainable way. Thank you to everyone who has entered so far, for anyone who would still like to enter their product, we are accepting entries until mid-July but don’t delay. Enter now and don’t miss the chance to showcase your fantastic products and share with us all the important work you do to help the planet with your entry into the Global Green Beauty Awards. |
