Hello friends, My recent blogs showcasing some of our recent 2020 UK Global Makeup Awards winners have been pleasingly popular, I must say I love writing them! Today I would like to highlight some more wonderful companies which not only have super products deserving of beauty awards but also have such fascinating back-stories and positive contributions to our industry. BEST ANTI AGEING PRODUCT GOLD WINNER Manuka Doctor 24K Gold & Manuka Honey Face Oil Manuka Doctor was gold winner for best anti ageing product in the UK 2020 Global Makeup Awards. Manuka Doctor is a company with a firm foot still in its homeland among the fresh New Zealand mountains where their expert Bee Keepers source high-quality, quality authentic Mānuka Honey. The last few years has seen demand for the honey increase dramatically as more and more people become tuned-in its well-being properties. The origins of the company go all the way back to 1909 and the Manuka Doctor strives to keep their production techniques as clean and pure now as they were in the beginning. Their philosophy is to use the best ingredients from New Zealand and the remain a rare example of a New Zealand honey company which runs its private business in a fully integrated way. We loved this product because we could see an approved appearance of our skin, reduced wrinkles and improved skin radiance. It is 2020's must have beauty product. BEST BEAUTY TOOL GOLD WINNER Mary Kay Skinvigorate Sonic Skin Care System Mary Kay Mission – Enriching the lives of women and their families around the world. That’s a great mission statement! Furthermore, Mary Kay back it up by creating excellent products which really do have a positive effect on women and their families! Founded in 1963, Mary Kay’s original offer consisted of one foundation product along with four skincare products. By the late eighties they had banned animal testing and created a recycling programme. Soon after they achieved the impressive milestone of $1Billion wholesale sales. According to Instagram Mary Kay China has just celebrated its 25 th Birthday. The company’s standpoint on equality is inspirational and I absolutely love how they promote their beauty products from a feminist standpoint as well as vocally getting behind the recent #BLM movement. This is a company run by people who know who they are and what change they want to make in the world. Mary Kay’s huge success only underpins the notion that you don’t have to abandon your values to be successful. The Skinvigorate Sonic Skin Care System provides you with a cleaner, impurity free face in just 60 seconds. It was truly deserving of a gold win in the UK 2020 Global Makeup Awards. The Skinvigorate also removes 4 x more dirt, makeup and pollutants compared to just hand cleaning at home. This means you are left with super clean skin, that looks fresher and rejuvenated. It really is a must have cleanser, up there with LumiSpa and Foreo Luna 3 skincare cleansers. I’d love to tell you more about these brands but probably the best thing you can do is head over to their websites to find out more about their history, their products and their latest news. They are thoroughly deserving of their beauty awards and in this tough year so far, I definitely think any products that help us feel better and healthier are a great thing, By the way, here in Italy the weather is super-hot, just as it has been in the UK, and it is great to see
lots of German tourists have come back to Italy as soon as they could, to enjoy the food, culture and beautiful scenery. It’s a huge boost not only to the tourism sector but to everyone’s mood. Living in a ghost town started off like a novelty but it soon became quite draining! Also, thank you for all your entries in the Global Green Beauty Awards and the 2020 USA Global Makeup Awards - watch out for their entry deadlines closing in mid july and 1st of August respectively. Until next time! Dan

.Hi Everyone, We thought we would look into and explore what is happening to the beauty industry during the coronavirus pandemic. There's some pretty scary stats out there about the economy in general - four days ago the BBC reported that the economy has drunk a record 20.4% in April. The big question in our industry though is, how is the beauty and cosmetics industry being affected? Firstly - some products are not only on the up, but are spiralling into the stratospheres of success - bars of soap, liquid soap, hand sanitiser and disinfecting products. We have also seen beauty brands help out - one of our winner's in the UK 2020 Global Makeup Awards, the L'Occitane Group, has manufactured over 70,000 litres of hand sanitizer for health officials. As spas and salons have been forced to shut by government mandate (Treatwell is currently suspended), we have also seen a huge rise in home treatments. That includes home face masks, box hair dye kits and home hair removal kits. At this point we of course want to mention our favourite hair removal kit, and winner in the UK 2020 Global Makeup Awards - No Mo-Stache's No Mo-Unibrow. On the other hand, the beauty events calendar has been thrown into the air. Beauty Awards with galas have had to cancel the galas of course and stream them online or to announce them online. Beauty Expos such as Bologna's Cosmoprof has been postponed until next year and will be Spring 2021. People are also looking after themselves more in lockdown - we are seeing 40% of high income earners looking to actively manage their stress, including with at home spa treatments. Brands have been forced online, and have been selling through their website, facebook, Instagram and other online channels. Many, who haven't been able to adapt to selling online, have ceased business for months, It's not all doom and gloom for the beauty industry though. Euromonitor international predicts that the beauty sector, both luxury and non luxury, is set to fall by just 2% this year. It is a negative fall, but it could have been much worse. For example, comparatively, the luxury goods market will fall 18% this year globally. As a side note, Switzerland is seeing a fall of 25% for the luxury goods market, which is a whopping fall of 1 in 4. We are also expected to see an economic bounce back, and we are hoping some consumers have experimented with new beauty brands during lockdown. What is the Global Makeup Awards and Global Green Beauty Awards seeing within the beauty and cosmetics industry? In addition to the above - we thought you might want to see closer to home our own experiences and expectations for the beauty industry during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Of course we have seen business struggle with warehouse issues, particularly at the beginning of the outbreak when there were no organised ways to manage social distancing, but that now seems to almost have disappeared. People have more guidance and know how to work appropriately. We are also seeing people want to use marketing more than ever to promote their brands online. We have seen a monumental number of entries in the Global Green Beauty Awards. This awards is green and clean, and it seems the coronavirus outbreak has also led people to be more environmentally aware. This has been the perfect backdrop to enter the 2020 Global Green Beauty Awards. Though we had to postpone Asia as a beauty awards which was due to launch, regrettably, during the Chinese coronavirus outbreak, as a whole the other regions haven't been affected and are going ahead as scheduled. As an online beauty awards and makeup awards, we are online only so thankfully we have not had to cancel any galas and therefore on a personal level haven't been too affected by the crisis. We hope everyone is slowly getting back to normal and looking forward to nominating their brands in our upcoming USA Global Makeup Awards (An American Beauty Award) and the Global Green Beauty Awards (an environmentally friendly green beauty award). Scandinavian Beauty Awards – Spotlight on past Winners
So, as you know, last December we announced the winners of the 2019 Scandinavian Beauty Awards. Today I would like to shine a spotlight on some of the winners. We’ll delve a little more into who they are and what their mission is and we’ll also take a look at their products. FOREO deservedly won the Gold Award for Best Innovative Beauty Product at last year’s Scandinavian Beauty Awards. They also took home the silver award for Best Scandinavian Beauty Brand. Let me tell you a little more about them! Just six years ago Foreo consisted of just two Swedish-based employees, would you believe that the company now consists of more than 3,000 people all over the world. With over 20 million products shipped, these are certainly exciting times at the company! The company approach is attain expert level though action and experimentation and so far it’s working having achieved great success with the introduction of the LUN line of T-sonic facial cleansing and anti-aging devices, they are now launching their impressive ISS— the first ever silicone electric toothbrush. The UFO smart mask treatment is the result of an ingenious combination of advanced dermal technologies with Korean mask formulas. It is a 90-second mask treatment combining device- activated formulas with heating, cooling, and T-Sonic pulsations. It works fantastically on all skins types and is often particular interest to those looking to treat fine lines and wrinkles, pores, and dullness and uneven texture. It also brightens your complexion and kills the bacteria which can cause acne. There is a pre- programmed setting with the perfect temperature and pulsation intensity, this smart mask treatment is a fast and effective facial treatment which will transform not only your complexion but also your beauty regime. Winners of our Best Cleanser Gold Award were BAIE BOTANIQUE with their fantastic Rose & Cupuacu Enzyme Cleaner. They also won the Best Vegan Brand Award. The company, founded by Sophie Oliver, a professional make-up artist with over 20 years’ experience in the beauty industry and a follower of a plant-based lifestyle. At Baie Boutique, Sophie has achieved something really wonderful by combining her professional enthusiasm with her personal lifestyle and passion to create a skincare range which is full of natural ingredients and avoids preservatives and additional ingredients wherever necessary. In a recent blog post (https://www.baiebotanique.com/blogs/baie-blog/introducing-rose-renew- rose-and-cupuacu-enzyme-cleanser) – Baie Botanique share some really fascinating extra information on the rose and cupuacu enzyme cleanser. The cleanser (82.65% Organic | 100% Natural | PETA certified Vegan and Cruelty-free) contains rosewater, rose absolute and rosehip oil, ingredients which have been used in beauty regimes for thousands of years and are known to have been trusted by Cleopatra and, more recently, Duchess of Cambridge, Kate. I have to say it’s a real privilege to be able to share a nit more information with you about our previous winners. These companies are clearly built on foundations of passion and desire to help not only people with their skincare, but also to do it in an ethically sound way. This certainly seems to be the direction the industry is moving in and entries to our Green Beauty Awards are coming in thick and fast. Choosing which make-up product to buy when there seems to be an ocean of choice can be an overwhelming experience. Thankfully, a trusted award goes a long way and can make all the difference to sales. As for the companies themselves, they benefit from wide-exposure and recognition from within the industry. Finding material to use for social media marketing can often be difficult and time- consuming. Winning an award, however, provides a wealth of material which can be used over the course of a year. Photos of the trophy, photos of staff with the trophy etc. and naturally there are the shares and retweets. All brands are welcome to participate. Noughty came second, silver place, in the Global Makeup Awards for the cateogry of Best Shampoo/ Conditioner. This was with their product - To the Rescue Intense Moisture Hair Treatment which has an RRP of £8.99. This hair treatment is made specifically for dry and damaged hair. It is 97% natural too (hence the funky name of noughty - as the idea is without horrible extra chemicals.) It is packed with sweet almond and black oat extracts which makes it a great super quenching treatment. This product will help you hydrate, restructure and transform hair in distress. This rescue remedy smells deliciously of vanilla and works on even the most stubborn, frizz and dry hair. For best results, wash, put in and wrap in clingfilm. It can be used as an intense treatment by leaving it on the hair a little longer. Our judges were truly wowed and can't recommend this glorious product enough. Earlier in January, Kylie Jenner trademarked the word 'Kylash' ahead of a potential new mascara launch. Though there is no word on exactly what type of lash product will be launched or when, it looks like it could be soon. This is following the successful launch of other products in her Kylie Cosmetics line called Kybrow and Kyliner.
After successfully dominating the makeup industry with her eye catching range of lip products: lipsticks, glosses and liners, it makes sense for her to continue with her success. If she can crack the mascara market as well as she has with her lip range then Kylie will be sure to rule supreme within the beauty industry which has already brought her close to earnings of a billion dollars. She will need to convince the bbloggers (beauty bloggers and vloggers) who are hugely influential to her success as they directly reach her dominant market of millenials. Interestingly, 'Kylash' was trademarked not just specifically for mascara, but for a host of products related to the lashes. The trademark was filed for mascara, eyelash extension fibers, artificial eyelashes, tints and serums. It is our guess here at the Global Makeup Awards that she will attempt to corner the market with a range of high quality false eyelashes. Our sneaky suspicion is because she is no stranger to falsies herself, but also because for years she has worked with her own hair extension and wig range. We know here at the Global Makeup Awards we would be sure to want to review her new lash product to see how it competes against the market giants, what ever lash product is ends up being, we know we will have a category for her! |
