If you want to see confirmation of the old adage that two heads are better than one, look no further than the story of FIINI skincare products. 20 years ago two young girls made friends at High School. Their common ideology became more and more entwined as they matured and had families and homes of their own. So let's take a look at the products this company has put forward to Global Make Up Awards in the category of ....
First product we have been testing Is FIINI Oat Sea Buckthorne Oil Serum. Not just a moisturiser but also helps inflammation and reddening. The oat content stimulates the skin’s metabolism, increases elasticity and stimulates collagen production. Ingredients include beta carotene, vitamins A, C and E, plus Omegas 3, 6 and 9 which promotes skin renewal. It can also be used in lightening the appearance of liver spots. We are also testing another of their droppers, the blackcurrant face oil particularly formulated for oily and combination skin. Ingredients include Jojoba, blackcurrant seed oil and rosemary. Another of their products with blackcurrant is is their Balm to Milk Cleanser with Blackcurrant.
This syrupy looking product literally changes shape and form with the addition of water and rubs into the skin with a milk consistency. Finally we are testing their 50 ml tin of shea butter. Great for the handbag or pocket when you go out on a chill day. Shea butter has been used as a cosmetic ingredient for centuries and is particularly effective for acne, cell regeneration and burns. Great for protecting your lips ain’t the cold weather and moisturising when sitting in central heating.

Judges were wowed by the ethics behind the brand, the simple natural ingredients and also their dedication to sustainable packaging. In fact, did you know all of their beauty products are packaged in recyclable glass or metal jars and their cardboard boxes are made of recycled cardboard. To ensure ecological logistics further commit to sourcing their ingredients in large batches and without plastic wrapping.
After a long, steamy summer the nights are drawing in earlier, heating is going on and time for a bit of cosy on down.

It seems an appropriate time to look at beauty products coming from our colder cousins, as they are the pioneers of S-Beauty aka Scandinavian Beauty. Think of all things Nordic, including the people, and the ability to keep fresh and strong comes to mind. People who have known how to take care of themselves in extremes of weather, keep safe, well and healthy. Great respecters of their environment and of themselves, and known for natural, clean beauty products. In fact, this is why we created the Scandinavian Global Makeup Awards - as those from the Scandinavian countries, have a wholly different approach to skincare and cosmetics, keeping things clean and natural.
We may not want to run naked through the snow to throw ourselves into a natural hot geyser but we would all like to know what pleasure is aroused buy this act. Because there must be a pay off!
So, we must look to the Skandi natural resources that we can use and indeed practice the respect they ave for our living world.
The judges have been long been admirers of SKOGEN products, who were winners in the 2019 Scandinavian Global Makeup Awards and the 2020 Global Green Beauty Awards. Not just because of Skogen Cosmetics fabulous packaging which in itself is worthy to grace the shelves of any discerning designer led aficionado but the contents are truly amazing. Our judges have had The Jasmine Collection on test.
Giving or receiving these products is an act of hygge in itself. The outer packaging is an extremely well manufactured box in royal blue but on opening the inside has been decorated with beautiful photographic scenes from the countryside. Just to get you in the right frame of mind. Every products differs with its interior. And sitting regally inside this gorgeous presentation box sit a violet blue capsule which seems to float inside a transparent outer covering. Even the men sit up and notice the beauty of the presentation of the SKOGEN Range.
The underlying theme of the serums and creams is Jasmine. This is a beautiful fragrance for those who don’t like their products too earthy. And luckily we are all different so it's lovely to have a fragranced option.
SKOGEN is a Swedish/US collaboration. Definitely a high end product the products have given great results. We love the fact that these luxury products still retain the criteria of being healthy and environmentally friendly. The Face Serum and Day Moisturiser leave the skin feeling wonderfully fed and radiant. Using the serum in conjunction with the Night moisturiser results in skin ready to face the day! SKOGEN EYE SERUM and EYE CREAM definitely helped this delicate area of the face minimising dark circles and invigorating this part of the face that many of us need help with. Especially when sleep has been hard to find!
Last but certainly not least the Judges loved the non surgical Face Mask. King Tut would have loved this product. Looking like a gold mask this product contains a full set of 12 treatments which are soaked in a highly concentrated serum. Ingredients include hyaluronic acid, algae extract, we carat gold and vitamins to leave the skin rejuvenated, deeply nourished and radiant. This product also importantly stimulates cell vitality to enhance firmness. Use it post procedures to stimulate healing. Use it to minimise redness and even skin tones. Or just use it for a bit of your own hygge!

lots of German tourists have come back to Italy as soon as they could, to enjoy the food, culture and
beautiful scenery. It’s a huge boost not only to the tourism sector but to everyone’s mood. Living in
a ghost town started off like a novelty but it soon became quite draining!

Our beautiful UK 2020 Global Makeup Awards trophies have arrived!
Good (early) morning everyone!
It's Dominique here from the Global Makeup Awards. Today I'm up too early....3.45am because the sun is just rising, it's one day after the summer solstice. That's not a regular habit of mine... more just being someone who once sees the sun is up, I can never get back to sleep again, anyone else like that?
A little quick update with where we are with the awards. We currently have TWO awards open. We have both the 2020 Global Green Beauty Awards open (a green beauty awards alternative) and the 2020 USA Global Makeup Awards open. (This is like the other Global Makeup Awards you know and love, but this time we've branched out into the fabulous American market, where the is so much beauty innovation and expertise. We are so excited to be launching in the USA and for our USA beauty awards to be taking on a whole other shape and dimension. Entries for the Global Green Beauty Award end July 15th, and for the USA Global Makeup Awards the entries close August 1st. We don't normally have two awards running at the same time, but as you all know coronavirus has wreaked havoc on schedules and timings so we have had to have had a little reshuffle!
In other beauty related news, we have had delivery of our 2020 UK Global Makeup Awards trophies. They are so beautiful. We love our innovatively designed A6 perspex block beauty award trophies. They look so cute on a desk to celebrate a win or placed on a shelf.

Will you ever run a gala?
A gala for our beauty awards is something we are so keen to do. What better event is there for networking, socialising, having a good knees up and of course for finding out the winners to the beauty awards with a celebration gala. However, for the moment with the coronavirus pandemic we need to keep things safe. As soon as things return to pre-apocalypse (kidding! but you know what I mean) then it is definitely something we will put on the table.
The sun is really coming up now and it's already time for another coffee. We thought we would look into and explore what is happening to the beauty industry during the coronavirus pandemic. There's some pretty scary stats out there about the economy in general - four days ago the BBC reported that the economy has drunk a record 20.4% in April. The big question in our industry though is, how is the beauty and cosmetics industry being affected?
Firstly - some products are not only on the up, but are spiralling into the stratospheres of success - bars of soap, liquid soap, hand sanitiser and disinfecting products. We have also seen beauty brands help out - one of our winner's in the UK 2020 Global Makeup Awards, the L'Occitane Group, has manufactured over 70,000 litres of hand sanitizer for health officials.
As spas and salons have been forced to shut by government mandate (Treatwell is currently suspended), we have also seen a huge rise in home treatments. That includes home face masks, box hair dye kits and home hair removal kits. At this point we of course want to mention our favourite hair removal kit, and winner in the UK 2020 Global Makeup Awards - No Mo-Stache's No Mo-Unibrow.
On the other hand, the beauty events calendar has been thrown into the air. Beauty Awards with galas have had to cancel the galas of course and stream them online or to announce them online. Beauty Expos such as Bologna's Cosmoprof has been postponed until next year and will be Spring 2021. People are also looking after themselves more in lockdown - we are seeing 40% of high income earners looking to actively manage their stress, including with at home spa treatments.
Brands have been forced online, and have been selling through their website, facebook, Instagram and other online channels. Many, who haven't been able to adapt to selling online, have ceased business for months, It's not all doom and gloom for the beauty industry though. Euromonitor international predicts that the beauty sector, both luxury and non luxury, is set to fall by just 2% this year. It is a negative fall, but it could have been much worse. For example, comparatively, the luxury goods market will fall 18% this year globally. As a side note, Switzerland is seeing a fall of 25% for the luxury goods market, which is a whopping fall of 1 in 4. We are also expected to see an economic bounce back, and we are hoping some consumers have experimented with new beauty brands during lockdown.
What is the Global Makeup Awards and Global Green Beauty Awards seeing within the beauty and cosmetics industry?
In addition to the above - we thought you might want to see closer to home our own experiences and expectations for the beauty industry during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Of course we have seen business struggle with warehouse issues, particularly at the beginning of the outbreak when there were no organised ways to manage social distancing, but that now seems to almost have disappeared. People have more guidance and know how to work appropriately. We are also seeing people want to use marketing more than ever to promote their brands online. We have seen a monumental number of entries in the Global Green Beauty Awards. This awards is green and clean, and it seems the coronavirus outbreak has also led people to be more environmentally aware. This has been the perfect backdrop to enter the 2020 Global Green Beauty Awards.
Though we had to postpone Asia as a beauty awards which was due to launch, regrettably, during the Chinese coronavirus outbreak, as a whole the other regions haven't been affected and are going ahead as scheduled. As an online beauty awards and makeup awards, we are online only so thankfully we have not had to cancel any galas and therefore on a personal level haven't been too affected by the crisis.
We hope everyone is slowly getting back to normal and looking forward to nominating their brands in our upcoming USA Global Makeup Awards (An American Beauty Award) and the Global Green Beauty Awards (an environmentally friendly green beauty award).

We are so excited with two awards running at once - the Global Green Beauty Awards and the USA Global Makeup Awards
You may have noticed that we have two awards running at once over here. Because of the global coronavirus pandemic, we've had to switch up our schedule and that means that ASIA has been postponed (we are expecting until the end of the year). This was when we thought the coronavirus was just something we were seeing to affect Asia and then little did we know it was something that would concern the global community. Rather than postpone the rest of our awards (we run 4-5 beauty awards each year) we have instead reshuffled our dates.
So that means we currently have both the USA Global Makeup Awards open as well as the 2020 Global Green Beauty Awards!
It means things are a bit hectic in our work from home offices right now :) but we love the business and we are overwhelmed with all the entries we have been getting. So we thought we would provide a little update to those who follow the Global Makeup Awards.
The Global Green Beauty Awards have been open for a few months now. It is open for all eco friendly beauty brands who are looking for green awards for their beauty products. There are no launch date restrictions and all companies globally can enter. We have seen entries from the UK, Greece, Australia, New Zealand, India, Iceland, Finland, Denmark and the USA so far. We are so proud of the global effort for beauty brands to move towards more environmentally friendly, natural organic and sustainable beauty products. In fact, at this point in time we have had over 150 entires and there is still another month to go so it has been a truly mammoth year for the Global Green Beauty Awards.
We also have the USA 2020 Global Makeup Awards open. This has only just opened and is for all brands open in America, whether by post or for sale in the shops. We are seeing some amazing game changing brands from america and we are so excited that it is open as a region for itself. The USA has always been known for its innovation in the beauty field and we are so happy to have an awards especially dedicated to it! We are so glad that our awards recognised different regions globally as it gives consumers more of an opportunity to see what is available in their own country and outside it.

Vegan? Cruelty free? We look into what is behind the words for the beauty industry
The 2020 Global Green Beauty awards is aimed at beauty brands who are trying to bring out more green beauty lines or clean beauty lines. The idea is to educate and to move towards a more eco conscious direction for beauty brands and to celebrate those brands which are already greener and cleaner.
There are many ways to be green and clean, for example being plastic free, zero waste, natural, organic, vegan and cruelty free. But being one doesn't necessary mean you are the other. So in today's blog post we thought we would go through some environmental and ecological terminology as it isn't always that clear. It is one thing when you're in the supermarket picking up organic eggs, but another thing when you are browsing for the latest beauty products.
What is Vegan beauty?
Vegan beauty products by definition contain no animal products or animal derivatives. That means, no lanolin, no beeswax, no honey, no collagen, no gelatin for example.
Vegan cosmetics does not necessarily therefore mean it is not tested on animals. The term purely means it contains no animal products or derivatives. Saying that, many many ethical brands try to tick all the boxes and they will often be both vegan and cruelty free beauty products. However, saying it is Vegan is not enough to ensure it is cruelty free, it also needs to state that too in order to be certain it is. Often this is written on the packaging, or on the website, otherwise you can check with the manufacturer directly.
What are cruelty free beauty products?
Ok, so for a brand to be cruelty free, it needs to not test the products on animals at any stage.
That sounds easy, so where does the gray area begin?
Often companies say they are 'required by law' to test on animals. This is more often than not for global brands where in some countries it is necessary to test on animals for the product to be able to be sold there. That means, those companies are not cruelty free, as at some stage (to sell the products in some countries) they have to test on animals, even if it is through a third party.
So is my cruelty free product vegan?
As we said above, being cruelty free does not equate to the product being vegan. This is as though no animals may have been tested on, the product may still contain a product like honey, and therefore not be considered as vegan as the ingredients include animal derivatives.
That's quite a lot of information when looking at vegan and cruelty free cosmetics brands, but we hope that cleared up some questions for you for when you are next browsing for your next beauty purchase.
We celebrate all brands that are making efforts to support the environment, whether in its ingredients, ethics, testing or more. Slowly slowly, we are all becoming more aware about the environment and our impact on it, as well as its impact on us.
