What have we taken away from 2020? Maybe that we are looking to pamper ourselves at home a bit more, and also that we are more aware of our health, wellbeing, body and environment. One product which takes all of that into account, is giving yourself a mini manicure at home with the green and clean brand called S'N'BIO. S’N’BIO’S mantra is one for all of us to remember. We’ve had some of their super nail varnishes on tests and believe us when we say we would have been full of praise for this company just reviewing their products without being aware of the scientific pluses to complement production . First, the product. S’N’Bio Natural Origin intense Gloss Lasting Wear varnish glides on the nail perfectly with each stroke. Some of us can hardly see our toes when applying and yet the end result was a perfectly even application. Top marks just for that. The colours are amazingly complementary, the gloss finish spot on. And it really lasts the course. So that’s the positives on the actual product but the production process really backs it up. One of our favourite shades is the taupe / mink natural shade that is very subtle. Another favourite is a bit more va va voom and is the ruby red shade. HOW IT'S GREEN AND CLEAN This plant based nail varnish is based on a vegan revolutionary formula combining the power of nature with an extremely rich long lasting nail colour. The natural composition is certified 85% vegetable origin ingredient. The double patented formula includes potato, corn, wheat, manioc, sugarcane and cotton. No damage to our nails or cuticles. They won silver in the 2020 Global Green Beauty Awards for best Vegan Hand / Nail Product. The umbrella brand, Safe 'n' Beautiful has more than just S'N'Bio. In fact, we were so impressed by the product that we are going to order their Snails products for our own little Princesses. This is a range of products specifically formulated for use by little ones and also includes a range of beautiful little hair accessories. The packaging is going to be particularly alluring to young beauties. For us this company can do no wrong.

Hi everyone! I get so excited about Christmas and the whole build-up ...and then get to have it all again in January as I'm just as excited about the opening of entries for the Global Makeup Awards! There are no January slumps here! Entries are now open for the 2021 UK Global Makeup Awards and also the 2021 ASIA Global Makeup Awards which is their first inaugural year due to so many requests from Asian, and Eurasian countries. We love working with new brands and like-minded companies and discover so many amazing products. One of my favourite categories is for BEST INNOVATIVE PRODUCT. Last year in the UK Global Makeup Awards some of the GOLD WINNERS were Tweezerfile and House of Life London for their facial advance no 31. I’d love to share some more information about these companies with you now. Firstly, can I say that Tweezerfile have the most beautiful website, unlike most company websites out there. It’s not just extremely easy on the eye but also really engaging and fun, while still being user-friendly and easy to navigate. Based in Finchley, North London, and the brainchild of husband and wife team Lucy and Wolfgang Zender, Tweezerfile, as you may have guessed is a file for you tweezers. They use a diamond-plated stainless steel surface to re-invigorate your tired sets of tweezers, reducing wastage and saving you cash. Visit www.tweezerfile.com to see what I mean about their website and take a closer took at their business. The Tweezerfile costs £12.99 and is available in coral and midnight blue. Earlier this year it was featured in a great article at Glamour Magazine UK which dealt with home eyebrow care. Another favourite of ours was the Gold winner House of Life London with their facial advance no.31. This product is designed to reduce lines and increase skin firmness and is made of a blend of 31 natural and organic compounds. Deborah Craven-Smith-Milnes launched House of Life London in 2016, after spending 20 years working in global technology innovations. We love her philosophy which is to “simplify the skincare landscape” by providing products with multiple benefits that can be used both day and night. Products are made from 100% organic materials and locally sourced as much as possible. Ethically aware, they strive to minimize waste and environmental impact, this is a product you can buy knowing that you are on the right side of the fight for the planet. House of Life London are endorsed by BRAND AMBASSADOR RH Princess Tessy of Luxembourg and were recently featured in the Sunday Times Style section Please do check out both these products. Personally, I think the Tweezerfile is a product that every household should own, I can’t believe it hadn’t been invented before but maybe I the future we won’t remember life without one! And once again, do check out their fabulous website. I also wholeheartedly recommend House of Life London. I love their philosophy of simplifying beauty regimes and creating ethical and natural beauty products. Also, the facial advance no.31 cream is fantastic, especially for those days (and nights) when you do want a fast and simple treatment. Thanks again for dropping by, even writing this blog has made me excited to the year ahead! Ciao Dan Let’s say goodbye to. 2020 and look forward to 2021.
It’s not been all bad news. Coronavirus has seen such a lot of bad and sad news but the one positive aspect of it has been the world having to focus on where we have been going wrong and what we, as curators of the world, can do to endeavour to secure a much healthier life for our children and their descendants. Let’s admit that some of us have had our eyes opened to what’s been going on around us. We know we have got to be much more proactive in positivity towards the planet. Some countries have always been much more aware of their environments and how to respect nature. So keeping positive thoughts in mind the team have been really impressed by the Icelandic entrants to the Scandinavian Global Makeup Awards. Taking a pride of place on the winners shelf is Taramar. Their mantra is Working with Nature, not Against It. Founders of the company are two professors from the university of Iceland. One from the Faculty of life and Environmental Sciences and the other from the Faculty of Food Science and Nutrition. This is a company that does not mass produce their products at the expense of the environment and their workers. This is the Marine Superfood for the skin, based on compounds that are isolated from seaweed and kelp in an extract named Arctic Complex. Their research has shown that the bioactives from the seaweed promote anti-inflammation and anti-oxidants. Taramar contain no toxins or hormone disrupters. The company also promise they only use food grade ingredients in their formula. The end result on a time scale level is only achieved by using extractions that in some case can take months to achieve. This reflects their increasing interest in slow cosmetic methodology. No quick fix here and we appreciate the way the company don’t promise immediate overnight results. The best things in life are worth waiting for! Now to the nitty gritty! What did our judges think. Well, it was everything they could have wished for. From the classy packaging which is dark colours to protect the natural ingredients from being damaged by sunlight to the results the products actually achieve. We loved the wonderful tightness of Taramar The Serum and the cooling relaxing effect of Taramar The Eye treatment. Definitely a brand to look out for. Hello you beauties,
This December brings the last month of the whirlwind that has been 2020, and we are choosing to go out with a bang by announcing tomorrow our last beauty awards for the year: The 2020 Scandinavian Global Makeup Awards. In this beauty magazine, you can read all the winners for 2020. It is so much fun doing our makeup and beauty awards region by region. In this year's Scandinavia region, we see the hottest brands from the brassicaly cold Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Iceland. The Nordics opt for a cleaner, and more eco friendly type of beauty - with product packaging often being recyclable, and the products itself often organic, non toxic and also usually non harmful to the environment. The products themselves are usually of extremely high quality and they tend to prefer a more minimalistic approach to beauty. Less is more, and the Scandinavians tend to prefer less bottles over more. Packaging, like the number of beauty products in their cabinet, is scaled black. There is more monochrome, more simplicity and yet more style. There was a myriad of entries in this years 2020 Scandinavian Global Makeup Awards and we had so many notable winners. For Hair and Body brands such as Rosenserien, to Sweden Eco, Eleni & Chris and Zenz Organic to makeup brands such as IDUN Minerals and Karmameju's beautiful new BB suncreams. We were excited to welcome this year SkinChemists, Dr Botanicals and Esse to the skincare categories along side past winners such as Barr Sweden and FOREO (who have launched their incredible beauty gadgets BEAR and UFO2. Other notable winners are Icelandic luxury skincare brand Taramar - which uses algae at the forefront of their science. Primex Iceland - which uses Chitosan as its unique ingredient (sustainable prawn shells from the Atlantic Ocean). Marina Miracle showcased their incredible range, from their lash and eyebrow serum which was a winner in previous awards as well as showcasing their skincare range - we loved their sweet and creamy oil cleanser. Aiia was also a strong winner in this years awards with its high end skincare founded upon water based serums. Winners in our beauty awards receive an entry on our website, an image and text in our online magazine and a certificate. Brands can even choose to further promote their win with a perspex trophy. The 2021 Scandinavian Global Makeup Awards will return September 15th 2021. With over 300 entrants it's impossible to name them all in one post, but we hope you enjoy reading our favourites in Global Makeup Magazine. Who knows what next year will have in store for us and the world. We were so impressed with all the brands ability to go with the flow all with the backdrop of a global pandemic which impacted staff working from home, warehouse organisation and postage logistics. In the face of such uncertainty, we know next year will be bigger and brighter as we saw such an impressive range of products entered. Products that can provide that much needed pick-me-up for those who have had to close themselves up at home with lockdown after lockdown enforced. To all our readers - Thank You! We are so happy so many of you tune into Global Makeup Magazine, and we wish you the happiest of Christmas Holidays and New Years. The Global Makeup Awards commences again from January 1st, launching with our biggest region for the Global Makeup Awards and then followed shortly after by Global Green Beauty Awards - which celebrates all green beauty and eco beauty award winners. Wishing you a safe December Dominique Editor of Global Makeup Magazine So we’ve all heard of K-Beauty which has become over the years an umbrella term for skin-care products that are derived from South Korea. However, a newer term in the world of beauty is S-Beauty - which stands for Scandinavian Beauty or Scandi-Beauty. Whereas K-beauty became famous in Europe as we were intrigued by their 10 step skincare regime - S Beauty is quite the opposite - looking at more minimalist products that have a higher efficacy.
In this year’s 2020 Scandinavian Global Makeup Awards, we thought it would be interesting to delve deeper into the intricacies of S-Beauty. At its core, S-Beauty is about an all natural beauty look, often using natural products. When it comes to makeup, S-beauty favours a more subtle look using natural and earthy colours that enhance your own natural beauty. Packaging is minimalist, futuristic and bang on trend, much like their renown Scandi decor. Self care while going through lockdown 2.0 is what is really important right now, and Scandinavians known how to hunker down and enjoy time indoor in the warm and cosy while it’s cold outside. In fact, Scandinavian winters are known for being sub-zero, and that can take a toll on the delicate skin on your face. S-Beauty with regards to skincare really looks at protecting your skin from the harshness of external factors like weather and pollutants while keeping it moisturised and nourished. An intensive serum is an absolute must for providing your skin with the protection it requires. What are the other traits of S-Beauty? Minimalism goes a long way, and you won’t find a Scandinavians bathroom counter filled with thousands of lotions and potions. Quality and functionality are paramount. Less products which DO more. You’ll also notice more moisturisers with SPF, and also even up to 50SPF as they take protection against sun damage very seriously. Scandi’s aren’t known like brits for being abroad and sporting a bright lobster pink sunburn. So who are the big names in Scandi Beauty right now? Perhaps the most well known in S-Beauty in the makeup world is Kkaer Weis, famous for high-performing, luxury makeup that is both certified organic and sustainable. In skincare, there is a myriad of names, as Scandinavians take their skincare routine very seriously. Despite being known as a nation of minimalism, they don’t skimp on the steps in skincare routine. Big name players are Rosenserien, FOREO, Eleni & Chris, Barr Sweden, Skogen Cosmetics, Primex Iceland and Mette Picaut, just to name a few. S-Beauty goes further than just the products that you put on your skin and the earthy tones of the makeup you choose. It is a way of life. Balance is central to all things Scandinavian, which is part of their appreciate of ‘Hygge’. You need to balance the modern world with nature, and balance also your own like. A balanced and colourful diet is very important to them as well as finding time for themselves, and of course time to exercise. It is all tied in together - makeup, diet, exercise, inner wellbeing, in helping them to feel like the best versions of themselves. With all the uncertainties right now with the coronavirus pandemic, we could all do with taking a leaf out of the Scandinavians book, and look at enjoying the smaller things in life and taking a more balanced approach. The next time you make a beauty purchase, why not try S-Beauty, and look for better ingredients, a more natural approach and see if it is an all rounder that can do more. How to keep your chest young! Elixir Extraordinaire Dry Oil Mist from Stellar Decolletage11/12/2020 Hi All!
Just a quick blog post from the team here at Global Makeup Awards! We were all together and talking about our favourite beauty products that have entered our beauty awards over the years, and a special product popped up for all of us. Maybe because it is for a very specific part of your body, but we love looking after our chest, as it is one of the first places to show the signs of ageing, and we haven't seen many products that tackle the problem of a wrinkly decolletage! The delicate skin of the neck, breast and décolletage is unique, as the skin in this area is thinner than the skin on the rest of your body and constantly under stresses from gravity, movement, abrasion and perspiration. It contains fewer oil glands, therefore pores here remain smaller and more narrow. Elixir Extraordinaire Dry Oil Mist from Stellar Decolletage has been designed for just that! The mist is a dry oil that your spritz on your chest and it absorbs easily and doesn't leave you or your tops greasy. Not only does it help to diminish wrinkles, but it helps with the appearance of stretch marks too. Its secret lies in its blend of ingredients. It is enriched with a blend of Inca Inchi oil, rich in vitamin A, vitamin E and amino acids, macadamia oil containing omega 6 and 7, sweet almond oil, jojoba seed oil, borage oil and shea butter. Last year judges were wowed by this product - hence us all talking about it today. It won Gold in the 2020 Global Green Beauty Awards. The oil helps to restore moisture balance, limits dehydration and helps to strengthen and rebuild your skin's natural barriers. It also has anti-ageing properties because it is rich with antioxidants. The Elixir Extraordinaire Dry Oil Mist conditions and protects, leaving your skin soft and supple. We all saw results after a couple of weeks of using and in fact, it claims to have long lasting effects - so fingers crossed from using this our chests will keep up with looking younger for longer. The product costs £68.00 RRP and is available from their website. To complete the set - they also have a gorgeous looking Velvet restore sleep complex. This is an overnight treatment for the Décolletage providing a plumping, anti-ageing and conditioning treatment. We haven't tried this second product for ourselves, but it looks like the perfect complimenting product to use at night for a totally smooth chest. Hello to all our lovely readers,
The entries for this year's 2020 Scandinavian Global Makeup Awards have officially closed now. We are still accepting late product sample deliveries because of all the crazy world events that have been going on, including a UK lockdown 2.0. Entries for the Scandinavian Global Makeup Awards are for all brands which are either Scandinavian (so beauty brands from Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark or Iceland) or other beauty brands which sell in those nordic beauty markets. We were expecting to see a hit on entries for this year's awards given the global circumstances, but actually, entries have soared. We had DOUBLE, that's right, double, the number of entrants compared to last year's 2019 Scandinavian Global Makeup Awards. So this has us thinking - how has COVID19 affected the beauty market in Scandinavia? We have already looked into its impact in previous blog posts for how it has impacted the American Beauty Market and UK Beauty Market. The Nordics, however, have had different lockdown procedures, different healthcare, different economies and of course different social impacts. Euromonitor looked specifically at Sweden in a study (which is famous for not following a national lockdown like other countries during 2020.) Though they saw premium products were in greater demand, they also saw profit margins were under pressure. Read their full article here. Even more encouraging, they expect the markets to bounce back strongly for the personal care and beauty sector in 2021, as they expected many Swedes to make postponed beauty purchases in 2021. Furthermore, according to National News Service, an interesting thing to consider wit Scandinavia is that all 5 countries are developed countries whose consumers have money to keep their personal care product traders afloat. Another trend which has thrived in 2020 despite the coronavirus pandemic is that of Green and sustainable beauty in Scandinavia. There is an increased preference for vegan, organic and natural beauty products. The Nordic countries are looking to avoid toxic ingredients and want to be more socially responsible looking for more sustainable products. With the 2020 Scandinavian Global Makeup Awards coming up, it will be interesting to see if we see this trend in our beauty awards. The winners will be announced soon on the 10th December 2020 in the online magazine Global Makeup Magazine. The categories are not only for makeup, but for a whole range of personal care and cosmetic products. According to Mordor, the Scandinavians and especially the Swedes have a 'relatively high purchasing power' - so perhaps not only will we see an increase in green beauty products but also in luxury goods as well. This is our last beauty awards for 2020, and we truly hope next year will bring the beauty markets a bounceback, not just for the Scandi regions, but globally. We cancelled what would have been the inaugural year for the Asian Global Makeup Awards because of the outbreak of the pandemic in January, but little did we know what mother nature had in store for us for the whole globe in 2020. After yesterday's news of a vaccine, we can only hope of a year of more stability next year. Despite so many hurdles that the markets have had to jump over this year, we have seen an incredible number of entries and resilience from the beauty brands. We look forward to promoting the wins of the brands in December and look forward to the clock striking 12 on New Year's Eve, where hopefully things take a turn and we will have a slam dunk in to the New Year and see a strong growth for the personal care markets. If you want to see confirmation of the old adage that two heads are better than one, look no further than the story of FIINI skincare products. 20 years ago two young girls made friends at High School. Their common ideology became more and more entwined as they matured and had families and homes of their own. At the root of their shared passions was a belief in all things natural ranging from handicrafts to nature and animals.
In the search for finding a skin care solution suitable for sensitive skin these two passionate women created their own skin care range. Heidi had always used natural products in the care of her animals using long passed down family recipes. Essi was searching for the perfect combination of local products for her sensitive skin and thus was born their own skincare range. The resulting oat and honey cream is one of the company’s best sellers and the forerunner of the many products they now offer. The ethos of staying close to nature as their approach to family life. Their products are biodegradable and are in harmony with their environment. The women promise honesty and naturalness. All the oils and fats used in their cosmetics are cold pressed and unpurified. All raw ingredients are natural. No industrial preservations, additives, perfumes or colourants are used. All the creams and liquids are packaged in recyclable aluminium and glass containers. Given their love of animals, animal welfare is just as important. No product testing on animals here. So let's take a look at the products this company has put forward to Global Make Up Awards in the category of .... First product we have been testing Is FIINI Oat Sea Buckthorne Oil Serum. Not just a moisturiser but also helps inflammation and reddening. The oat content stimulates the skin’s metabolism, increases elasticity and stimulates collagen production. Ingredients include beta carotene, vitamins A, C and E, plus Omegas 3, 6 and 9 which promotes skin renewal. It can also be used in lightening the appearance of liver spots. We are also testing another of their droppers, the blackcurrant face oil particularly formulated for oily and combination skin. Ingredients include Jojoba, blackcurrant seed oil and rosemary. Another of their products with blackcurrant is is their Balm to Milk Cleanser with Blackcurrant. This syrupy looking product literally changes shape and form with the addition of water and rubs into the skin with a milk consistency. Finally we are testing their 50 ml tin of shea butter. Great for the handbag or pocket when you go out on a chill day. Shea butter has been used as a cosmetic ingredient for centuries and is particularly effective for acne, cell regeneration and burns. Great for protecting your lips ain’t the cold weather and moisturising when sitting in central heating. Fiini Naturally won multiple awards in the 2020 Global Green Beauty Awards - you can read all of the winner's here on our past winners page. Judges were wowed by the ethics behind the brand, the simple natural ingredients and also their dedication to sustainable packaging. In fact, did you know all of their beauty products are packaged in recyclable glass or metal jars and their cardboard boxes are made of recycled cardboard. To ensure ecological logistics further commit to sourcing their ingredients in large batches and without plastic wrapping. After a long, steamy summer the nights are drawing in earlier, heating is going on and time for a bit of cosy on down.
The Danish and Norwegians have a word for this. Hygge. A hug for the soul, mind and consciousness. Giving yourself a pamper and creating a feeling of ease and contentment. Hard in the current climate. It’s not just the weather assaulting our mind and body but the current pandemic is making us all keep to our homes whether by choice or legislation. It seems an appropriate time to look at beauty products coming from our colder cousins, as they are the pioneers of S-Beauty aka Scandinavian Beauty. Think of all things Nordic, including the people, and the ability to keep fresh and strong comes to mind. People who have known how to take care of themselves in extremes of weather, keep safe, well and healthy. Great respecters of their environment and of themselves, and known for natural, clean beauty products. In fact, this is why we created the Scandinavian Global Makeup Awards - as those from the Scandinavian countries, have a wholly different approach to skincare and cosmetics, keeping things clean and natural. We may not want to run naked through the snow to throw ourselves into a natural hot geyser but we would all like to know what pleasure is aroused buy this act. Because there must be a pay off! So, we must look to the Skandi natural resources that we can use and indeed practice the respect they ave for our living world. The judges have been long been admirers of SKOGEN products, who were winners in the 2019 Scandinavian Global Makeup Awards and the 2020 Global Green Beauty Awards. Not just because of Skogen Cosmetics fabulous packaging which in itself is worthy to grace the shelves of any discerning designer led aficionado but the contents are truly amazing. Our judges have had The Jasmine Collection on test. Giving or receiving these products is an act of hygge in itself. The outer packaging is an extremely well manufactured box in royal blue but on opening the inside has been decorated with beautiful photographic scenes from the countryside. Just to get you in the right frame of mind. Every products differs with its interior. And sitting regally inside this gorgeous presentation box sit a violet blue capsule which seems to float inside a transparent outer covering. Even the men sit up and notice the beauty of the presentation of the SKOGEN Range. The underlying theme of the serums and creams is Jasmine. This is a beautiful fragrance for those who don’t like their products too earthy. And luckily we are all different so it's lovely to have a fragranced option. SKOGEN is a Swedish/US collaboration. Definitely a high end product the products have given great results. We love the fact that these luxury products still retain the criteria of being healthy and environmentally friendly. The Face Serum and Day Moisturiser leave the skin feeling wonderfully fed and radiant. Using the serum in conjunction with the Night moisturiser results in skin ready to face the day! SKOGEN EYE SERUM and EYE CREAM definitely helped this delicate area of the face minimising dark circles and invigorating this part of the face that many of us need help with. Especially when sleep has been hard to find! Last but certainly not least the Judges loved the non surgical Face Mask. King Tut would have loved this product. Looking like a gold mask this product contains a full set of 12 treatments which are soaked in a highly concentrated serum. Ingredients include hyaluronic acid, algae extract, we carat gold and vitamins to leave the skin rejuvenated, deeply nourished and radiant. This product also importantly stimulates cell vitality to enhance firmness. Use it post procedures to stimulate healing. Use it to minimise redness and even skin tones. Or just use it for a bit of your own hygge! Be sure to look out for other Scandi brands in the upcoming 2020 Scandinavian Global Makeup Awards, where the winners will be announced on 10th December in Global Makeup Magazine. These beauty awards celebrate all things beauty and Nordic. At the moment, with COVID19, regional lockdowns, and the lack of ease we feel going to beauty salons, people are turning ever more to at home beauty treatments. In today's blog we will be looking at lockdown beauty regimes, and what we can do for a bit of self care while at home ourselves, and without breaking the bank! Here are our top hair masks and facial masks from some of our favorite brands from the Global Makeup Awards and the Global Green Beauty Awards. Biovène Oil Replacement, Hair Wrap Treatment Advertised as being a Hair Wrap Treatment + Oil Replacement Feature + Packed with the Wonders of Arian Extract, Moroccan Oil and Sodium Hyaluronate we were wondering if this Biovene product could really come up with these promises. It did. This handy sachet contains an immediate pick up for dry, damaged hair and did indeed leave it feeling healthier and glossier. We have already spoken about how much we adore the Biovène Shampoo Bars, and this hair wrap lived up to the name of the other products too. Such a small sachet with such a big punch! We loved it. Just opening the sachet revealed a really substantial cap containing the serum. Much stronger than the usual shower cap type it promised it was going to be a quality product. After washing hair and leaving in a towel dry condition we put the cap on, fastening it with a really good adhesive tab. Good start. Massage the product in and leave for another 20 minutes. Towel dry hair for some us meant hair that was impossible to brush through. After the treatment hair comes out that was easily combed! Amazing. After drying hair was left visibly in much better condition. Soft and smooth to the touch. Looks as though we are going to be in another Covid -19 wave. Make sure you get this product in your hair product box. It’s a definite great one for longer waits to get to the hairdresser. A professional finish for not a great deal of money - only 3.49 euros. Another must have October favourite from our Global Makeup Awards team was www.seoulistabeauty.com/collections/rosy-glow-primer/products/rosy-glow-primer SEOULISTA ROSY GLOW PRIMER Priming Mask infused with Bulgarian Rose Oil.
A five minute face mask that impressed us with ease of use, wake up feel, and beautiful softening and smoothing effect on the skin. So simple to place the mask in the correct place on the face with eyes, nose and mouth in the right place! Had perfect clinging effect on the skin With only a few bubbles to smooth out. Dermatologically created and tested and containing no silicone this very affordable product is definitely one to look out for. After five minutes skin felt fresh and invigorated. Sling was soft and glowing. We used some of the product left in the mask to apply as a further moisturiser just to make use of every drop of this lovely mask. The fragrance really resonant of the smell of old English roses. Beautiful. This product is just one of a much larger range of individual instant sachets for hand and body. Products range also includes a range of skin tools and we look forward to testing these too. Definitely one to put on the list, and at £5.50, a bargain you can't resist! We all need a bit of self love at the moment, and an at home mask is something you can indulge in without guilt. |
